예레미야 37:1-38:28

 시드기야가 왕위에 오른 후, 애굽의 군대가 예루살렘에 진격해 오자 바벨론 군대가 일시적으로 철수하였다. 시드기야 왕은 이 상황을 바벨론으로부터 유다가 구원받는 절호의 기회로 보고 예레미야에게 기도를 요청했다. 그러나 예레미야는 다시 바벨론이 침공할 것이라고 예언했다. 이로 인해 예레미야는 구덩이에 갇히게 되었지만 아벳멜렉에 의해 구출받았다. 시드기야 왕은 비밀리에 예레미야를 만나 바벨론에 항복할 것을 권고받지만 예레미야의 경고를 듣지 않았다.
  
  시드기야와 예레미야(37:1-37:21)    
 
  1. ヨシヤ の 子 ゼデキヤ は エホヤキム の 子 コニヤ に 代って 王となった． バビロン の 王 ネブカデレザル が 彼を ユダ の 地の 王としたのである．
  2. 彼もその 家來たちも， その 地の 人¿も， 主が 預言者 エレミヤ によって 語られた 言葉に 聞き 從わなかった．
  3. ゼデキヤ 王は セレミヤ の 子 ユカル と， マアセヤ の 子祭司 ゼパニヤ を 預言者 エレミヤ につかわして， 「われわれのために， われわれの 神， 主に 祈ってください 」と 言わせた．
  4. エレミヤ は 民の 中に 出入りしていた． まだ 獄屋に 入れられなかったからである．
  5. パロ の 軍勢が エジプト から 出て 來たので， エルサレム を 攻め 圍んでいた カルデヤ びとはその 情報を 聞いて エルサレム を 退いた．
  1. And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
  2. But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
  3. And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.
  4. Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.
  5. Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.
  1. その 時， 主の 言葉は 預言者 エレミヤ に 臨んだ，
  2. 「イスラエル の 神， 主はこう 言われる， あなたがたをつかわしてわたしに 求めた ユダ の 王にこう 言いなさい， 『あなたがたを 救うために 出てきた パロ の 軍勢はその 國 エジプト に 歸ろうとしている．
  3. カルデヤ びとが 再び 來てこの 町を 攻めて 戰い， これを 取って 火で 燒き 滅ぼす．
  4. 主はこう 言われる， あなたがたは， 「カルデヤ びとはきっとわれわれを 離れ 去る 」といって 自分を 欺いてはならない． 彼らは 去ることはない．
  5. たといあなたがたが 自分を 攻めて 戰う カルデヤ びとの 全軍を 擊ち 破って， その 天幕のうちに 負傷者のみを 殘しても， 彼らは 立ち 上がって 火でこの 町を 燒き� ナ ぼす 』」．
  1. Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah saying,
  2. Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
  3. And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.
  4. Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.
  5. For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
  1. さて カルデヤ びとの 軍勢が パロ の 軍勢の 來るのを 聞いて エルサレム を 退いたとき，
  2. エレミヤ は， ベニヤミン の 地で 民のうちに 自分の 分け 前を 受け 取るため， エルサレム を 立ってその 地へ 行こうと，
  3. ベニヤミン の 門に 着いたとき， そこに ハナニヤ の 子 セレミヤ の 子で イリヤ という 名の 番兵がいて， 預言者 エレミヤ を 捕え， 「あなたは カルデヤ びとの 側に 脫走しようとしている 」と 言った．
  4. エレミヤ は 言った， 「それはまちがいだ． わたしは カルデヤ びとの 側に 脫走しようとしていない 」． しかし イリヤ は 聞かず， エレミヤ を 捕えて， つかさたちのもとへ 引いて 行った．
  5. つかさたちは 怒って， エレミヤ を 打ちたたき， 書記 ヨナタン の 家の 獄屋にいれた． この 家が 獄屋になっていたからである．
  1. And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,
  2. Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.
  3. And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
  4. Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
  5. Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
  1. エレミヤ が 地下の 獄屋にはいって， そこに 多くの 日を 送ってのち，
  2. ゼデキヤ 王は 人をつかわし， 彼を 連れてこさせた． 王は 自分の 家でひそかに 彼に 尋ねて 言った， 「主から 何かお 言葉があったか 」． エレミヤ はあったと 答えた． そして 言った， 「あなたは バビロン の 王の 手に 引き 渡されます 」．
  3. エレミヤ はまた ゼデキヤ 王に 言った， 「わたしが 獄屋にいれられたのは， あなたに， またはあなたの 家來に， あるいはこの 民に， どのような 罪を 犯したからなのですか．
  4. あなたがたに 預言して， 『バビロン の 王はあなたがたをも， この 地をも 攻めにこない 』と 言っていたあなたがたの 預言者は 今どこにいるのですか．
  5. 王なるわが 君よ， どうぞ 今お 聞きください． わたしの 願いをお 聞きとどけください． わたしを 書記 ヨナタン の 家へ 歸らせないでください． そうでないと， わたしはそこで 殺されるでしょう 」．
  1. When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
  2. Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
  3. Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
  4. Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
  5. Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
  1. そこで ゼデキヤ 王は 命を 下し， エレミヤ を 監視の 庭に 入れさせ， かつ， パン を 造る 者の 町から 每日 パン 一個を 彼に 與えさせた． これは 町に パン がなくなるまで 續いた． こうして エレミヤ は 監視の 庭にいた．
  1. Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
 
  살아난 예레미야(38:1-38:28)    
 
  1. マッタン の 子 シパテヤ ， パシュル の 子 ゲダリヤ ， セレミヤ の 子 ユカル ， マルキヤ の 子 パシュル は エレミヤ がすべての 民に 告げていたその 言葉を 聞いた．
  2. 彼は 言った， 「主はこう 言われる， この 町にとどまる 者は， つるぎや， ききんや， 疫病で 死ぬ． しかし 出て カルデヤ びとにくだる 者は 死を 免れる． すなわちその 命を 自分のぶんどり 物として 生きることができる．
  3. 主はこう 言われる， この 町は 必ず バビロン の 王の 軍勢の 手に 渡される． 彼はこれを 取る 」．
  4. すると， つかさたちは 王に 言った， 「この 人を 殺してください． このような 言葉をのべて， この 町に 殘っている 兵士の 手と， すべての 民の 手を 弱くしているからです． この 人は 民の 安泰を 求めないで， その 災を 求めているのです 」．
  5. ゼデキヤ 王は 言った， 「見よ， 彼はあなたがたの 手にある． 王はあなたがたに 逆らって 何事をもなし 得ない 」．
  1. Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
  2. Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
  3. Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which shall take it.
  4. Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
  5. Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.
  1. そこで 彼らは エレミヤ を 捕え， 監視の 庭にある 王子 マルキヤ の 穴に 投げ 入れた． すなわち， 綱をもって エレミヤ をつり 降ろしたが， その 穴には 水がなく， 泥だけであったので， エレミヤ は 泥の 中に 沈んだ．
  2. 王の 家の 宦官 エチオピヤ びと エベデメレク は， 彼らが エレミヤ を 穴に 投げ 入れたことを 聞いた． その 時， 王は ベニヤミン の 門に 座していたので，
  3. エベデメレク は 王の 家から 出て 行って 王に 言った，
  4. 「王なるわが 君よ， この 人¿が 預言者 エレミヤ にしたことはみな 良いことではありません． 彼を 穴に 投げ 入れました． 町に 食物がなくなりましたから， 彼はそこで 餓死するでしょう 」．
  5. 王は エチオピヤ びと エベデメレク に 命じて 言った， 「ここから 三人のひとを 連れて 行って， 預言者 エレミヤ を， 死なないうちに 穴から 引き 上げなさい 」．
  1. Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
  2. Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;
  3. Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spake to the king saying,
  4. My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
  5. Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.
  1. そこで エベデメレク はその 人¿を 連れて 王の 家の 倉の 衣服室に 行き， そこから 古い 布切れや， 着ふるした 着物を 取り， これを 穴の 中にいる エレミヤ のところへ， 綱をもってつり 降ろした．
  2. そして エチオピヤ びと エベデメレク は， 「この 布切れや 着物を， あなたのわきの 下にはさんで， 綱に 當てなさい 」と エレミヤ に 言った． エレミヤ はそのようにした．
  3. すると 彼らは 綱をもって エレミヤ を 穴から 引き 上げた． そして エレミヤ は 監視の 庭にとどまった．
  4. ゼデキヤ 王は 人をつかわして 預言者 エレミヤ を 主の 宮の 第三の 門に 連れてこさせ， 王は エレミヤ に 言った， 「あなたに 尋ねたいことがある． 何事もわたしに 隱してはならない 」．
  5. エレミヤ は ゼデキヤ に 言った， 「もしわたしがお 話するなら， あなたは 必ずわたしを 殺されるではありませんか． たといわたしが 忠告をしても， あなたはお 聞きにならないでしょう 」．
  1. So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
  2. And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
  3. So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
  4. Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
  5. Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?
  1. その 時 ゼデキヤ 王は， ひそかに エレミヤ に 誓って 言った， 「われわれの 魂を 造られた 主は 生きておられる． わたしはあなたを 殺さない， またあなたの 命を 求める 者の 手に， あなたを 渡すこともしない 」．
  2. そこで エレミヤ は ゼデキヤ に 言った， 「万軍の 神， イスラエル の 神， 主はこう 仰せられる， もしあなたが バビロン の 王のつかさたちに 降伏するならば， あなたの 命は 助かり， またこの 町は 火で 燒かれることなく， あなたも， あなたの 家の 者も 生きながらえることができる．
  3. しかし， もしあなたが 出て バビロン の 王のつかさたちに 降伏しないならば， この 町は カルデヤ びとの 手に 渡される． 彼らは 火でこれを 燒く． あなたはその 手をのがれることができない 」．
  4. ゼデキヤ 王は エレミヤ に 言った， 「わたしは カルデヤ びとに 脫走した ユダヤ 人を 恐れている． カルデヤ びとはわたしを 彼らの 手に 渡し， 彼らはわたしをはずかしめる 」．
  5. エレミヤ は 言った， 「彼らはあなたを 渡さないでしょう． どうか， わたしがあなたに 告げた 主の 聲に 聞き 從ってください． そうすれば 幸を 得， また 命が 助かります．
  1. So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
  2. Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
  3. But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
  4. And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
  5. But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
  1. しかし 降伏することを 拒むならば， 主がわたしに 示された 幻を 申しましょう．
  2. すなわち， ユダ の 王の 家に 殘っている 女たちは， みな バビロン の 王のつかさたちの 所へ 引いて 行かれます． その 女たちは 言うのです， 『あなたの 親しい 友だちがあなたを 欺いた， そしてあなたに 勝った． 今あなたの 足は 泥に 沈んでいるので， 彼らはあなたを 捨てて 去る 』．
  3. あなたの 妻たちと 子供たちは 皆 カルデヤ びとの 所へひき 出される． あなた 自身もその 手をのがれることができず， バビロン の 王に 捕えられる． そしてこの 町は 火で 燒かれるでしょう 」．
  4. ゼデキヤ は エレミヤ に 言った， 「これらの 言葉を 人に 知らせてはならない． そうすればあなたは 殺されることはない．
  5. わたしがあなたと 話をしたことを， つかさたちが 聞いて， 彼らがあなたの 所に 來て， 『あなたが 王に 話したこと， 王があなたに 話したことをわれわれに 告げなさい． 何事も 隱してはならない． われわれはあなたを 殺しはしない 』と 言うならば，
  1. But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
  2. And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back.
  3. So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
  4. Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
  5. But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
  1. あなたは 彼らに， 『わたしは 王に 願って， わたしを ヨナタン の 家に 送り 返さず， そこで 死ぬことのないようにしてくださいと 言った 』と 答えなさい 」．
  2. さて， つかさたちは 皆 エレミヤ のところへ 來て 尋ねたが， 王が 彼に 敎えたように 彼らに 答えたので， 彼らは 彼と 話すことをやめた． その 會話を 聞いた 者がなかったからである．
  3. エレミヤ は エルサレム の 取られる 日まで 監視の 庭にとどまっていた．
  1. Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.
  2. Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
  3. So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.
 
  고니야( 37:1)  여호야긴  
  음실(陰室, 37:16)  본래 ‘무덤’을 뜻하나, 여기서는 어둡고 더러운 지하 감옥을 가리킴
