- わが 子よ， よく 聞いて， 知惠を 得よ， かつ， あなたの 心を 道に 向けよ．
- 酒にふけり， 肉をたしなむ 者と 交わってはならない．
- 酒にふける 者と， 肉をたしなむ 者とは 貧しくなり， 眠りをむさぼる 者は， ぼろを 身にまとうようになる．
- あなたを 生んだ 父のいうことを 聞き， 年老いた 母を 輕んじてはならない．
- 眞理を 買え， これを 賣ってはならない， 知惠と 敎訓と 悟りをも 買え．

- Listen, my son, and be wise, And direct your heart in the way.
- Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat;
- For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe one with rags.
- Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old.
- Buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction and understanding.
