- Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
- Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
- I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
- Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
- For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

- そして， あなたがたのうちに 良いわざを 始められたかたが， キリスト · イエス の 日までにそれを 完成して 下さるにちがいないと， 確信している．
- わたしが， あなたがた 一同のために， そう 考えるのは 當然である． それは， わたしが 獄に 捕われている 時にも， 福音を 弁明し 立證する 時にも， あなたがたをみな， 共に 惠みにあずかる 者として， わたしの 心に 深く 留めているからである．
- わたしが キリスト · イエス の 熱愛をもって， どんなに 深くあなたがた 一同を 思っていることか， それを 證明して 下さるかたは 神である．
- わたしはこう 祈る． あなたがたの 愛が， 深い 知識において， するどい 感覺において， いよいよ 增し 加わり，
- それによって， あなたがたが， 何が 重要であるかを 判別することができ， キリスト の 日に 備えて， 純眞で 責められるところのないものとなり，

- Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
- Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
- For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
- And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
- That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

- イエス · キリスト による 義の 實に 滿たされて， 神の 榮光とほまれとをあらわすに 至るように．
- さて， 兄弟たちよ． わたしの 身に 起った 事が， むしろ 福音の 前進に 役立つようになったことを， あなたがたに 知ってもらいたい．
- すなわち， わたしが 獄に 捕われているのは キリスト のためであることが， 兵營全體にもそのほかのすべての 人¿にも 明らかになり，
- そして 兄弟たちのうち 多くの 者は， わたしの 入獄によって 主にある 確信を 得， 恐れることなく， ますます 勇敢に， 神の 言を 語るようになった．
- 一方では， ねたみや 鬪爭心から キリスト を 宣べ 傳える 者がおり， 他方では 善意からそうする 者がいる．

- Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
- But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
- So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;
- And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
- Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

- 後者は， わたしが 福音を 弁明するために 立てられていることを 知り， 愛の 心で キリスト を 傳え，
- 前者は， わたしの 入獄の 苦しみに 更に 患難を 加えようと 思って， 純眞な 心からではなく， 黨派心からそうしている．
- すると， どうなのか． 見えからであるにしても， 眞實からであるにしても， 要するに， 傳えられているのは キリスト なのだから， わたしはそれを 喜んでいるし， また 喜ぶであろう．
- なぜなら， あなたがたの 祈と， イエス · キリスト の 靈の 助けとによって， この 事がついには， わたしの 救となることを 知っているからである．
- そこで， わたしが 切實な 思いで 待ち 望むことは， わたしが， どんなことがあっても 恥じることなく， かえって， いつものように 今も， 大膽に 語ることによって， 生きるにも 死ぬにも， わたしの 身によって キリスト があがめられることである．

- The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
- But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
- What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
- For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
- According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

- わたしにとっては， 生きることは キリスト であり， 死ぬことは 益である．
- しかし， 肉體において 生きていることが， わたしにとっては 實り 多い ¿きになるのだとすれば， どちらを 選んだらよいか， わたしにはわからない．
- わたしは， これら 二つのものの 間に 板ばさみになっている． わたしの 願いを 言えば， この 世を 去って キリスト と 共にいることであり， 實は， その 方がはるかに 望ましい．
- しかし， 肉體にとどまっていることは， あなたがたのためには， さらに 必要である．
- こう 確信しているので， わたしは 生きながらえて， あなたがた 一同のところにとどまり， あなたがたの 信仰を 進ませ， その 喜びを 得させようと 思う．

- For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
- But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
- For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
- Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.
- And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

- そうなれば， わたしが 再びあなたがたのところに 行くので， あなたがたはわたしによって キリスト · イエス にある 誇を 增すことになろう．

- That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
