창세기 32:1-33:20

 야곱은 형 에서와 화해하기 위해 사람들을 보냈지만, 그들로부터 에서가 큰 무리를 이끌고 온다는 보고를 받자 두려워 떨었다. 야곱은 모든 소유를 얍복 강 건너편으로 보내고 홀로 그곳에 남아 하나님의 사자와 날이 새도록 씨름하던 끝에 환도뼈가 부러졌다. 그러나 결국 하나님의 복을 받고 이름도 이스라엘로 불리게 되었다. 에서와 화해한 야곱은 세겜에 이르러 단을 쌓았다.
  
  하나님과 씨름하는 야곱(32:1-32:32)    
 
  1. 次の 朝早く， ラバン は 孫や 娘たちに 口づけして 祝福を 與え， そこを 去って 自分の 家へ 歸って 行った．
  2. ヤコブ が 旅を 續けていると， 突然， 神の 御使いたちが 現れた．
  3. ヤコブ は 彼らを 見たとき， 「ここは 神の 陣營だ 」と 言い， その 場所を マハナイム （二組の 陣營 ）と 名付けた．
  4. ヤコブ は， あらかじめ， セイル 地方， すなわち エドム の 野にいる 兄 エサウ のもとに 使いの 者を 遣わすことにし，
  5. お 前たちはわたしの 主人 エサウ にこう 言いなさいと 命じた． 「あなたの 僕 ヤコブ はこう 申しております． わたしは ラバン のもとに 滯在し 今日に 至りましたが，
  1. Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
  2. When Jacob saw them, he said, "This is the camp of God!" So he named that place Mahanaim.
  3. Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
  4. He instructed them: "This is what you are to say to my master Esau: 'Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now.
  5. I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, menservants and maidservants. Now I am sending this message to my lord, that I may find favor in your eyes.' "
  1. 牛， ろば， 羊， 男女の 奴隷を 所有するようになりました． そこで， 使いの 者を 御主人樣のもとに 送って 御報告し， 御機嫌をお 伺いいたします． 」
  2. 使いの 者は ヤコブ のところに 歸って 來て， 「兄上の エサウ さまのところへ 行って 參りました． 兄上樣の 方でも， あなたを 迎えるため， 四百人のお 供を 連れてこちらへおいでになる 途中でございます 」と 報告した．
  3. ヤコブ は 非常に 恐れ， 思い 惱んだ 末， 連れている 人¿を， 羊， 牛， らくだなどと 共に 二組に 分けた．
  4. エサウ がやって 來て， 一方の 組に 攻擊を 仕掛けても， 殘りの 組は 助かると 思ったのである．
  5. ヤコブ は 祈った． 「わたしの 父 アブラハム の 神， わたしの 父 イサク の 神， 主よ， あなたはわたしにこう 言われました． 『あなたは 生まれ 故鄕に 歸りなさい． わたしはあなたに 幸いを 與える 』と．
  1. When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, "We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him."
  2. In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups, and the flocks and herds and camels as well.
  3. He thought, "If Esau comes and attacks one group, the group that is left may escape."
  4. Then Jacob prayed, "O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, O LORD, who said to me, 'Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,'
  5. I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two groups.
  1. わたしは， あなたが 僕に 示してくださったすべての 慈しみとまことを 受けるに 足りない 者です． かつてわたしは， 一本の 杖を 賴りにこの ヨルダン 川を 渡りましたが， 今は 二組の 陣營を 持つまでになりました．
  2. どうか， 兄 エサウ の 手から 救ってください． わたしは 兄が 恐ろしいのです． 兄は 攻めて 來て， わたしをはじめ 母も 子供も 殺すかもしれません．
  3. あなたは， かつてこう 言われました． 『わたしは 必ずあなたに 幸いを 與え， あなたの 子孫を 海邊の 砂のように 數えきれないほど 多くする 』と． 」
  4. その 夜， ヤコブ はそこに 野宿して， 自分の 持ち 物の 中から 兄 エサウ への 贈り 物を 選んだ．
  5. それは， 雌山羊二百匹， 雄山羊二十匹， 雌羊二百匹， 雄羊二十匹，
  1. Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children.
  2. But you have said, 'I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.' "
  3. He spent the night there, and from what he had with him he selected a gift for his brother Esau:
  4. two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,
  5. thirty female camels with their young, forty cows and ten bulls, and twenty female donkeys and ten male donkeys.
  1. 乳らくだ 三十頭とその 子供， 雌牛四十頭， 雄牛十頭， 雌ろば 二十頭， 雄ろば 十頭であった．
  2. それを 群れごとに 分け， 召し 使いたちの 手に 渡して 言った． 「群れと 群れとの 間に 距離を 置き， わたしの 先に 立って 行きなさい． 」
  3. また， 先頭を 行く 者には 次のように 命じた． 「兄の エサウ がお 前に 出會って， 『お 前の 主人は 誰だ． どこへ 行くのか． ここにいる 家畜は 誰のものだ 』と 尋ねたら，
  4. こう 言いなさい． 『これは， あなたさまの 僕 ヤコブ のもので， 御主人の エサウ さまに 差し 上げる 贈り 物でございます． ヤコブ も 後から 參ります 』と． 」
  5. ヤコブ は， 二番目の 者にも， 三番目の 者にも， 群れの 後について 行くすべての 者に 命じて 言った． 「エサウ に 出會ったら， これと 同じことを 述べ，
  1. He put them in the care of his servants, each herd by itself, and said to his servants, "Go ahead of me, and keep some space between the herds."
  2. He instructed the one in the lead: "When my brother Esau meets you and asks, 'To whom do you belong, and where are you going, and who owns all these animals in front of you?'
  3. then you are to say, 'They belong to your servant Jacob. They are a gift sent to my lord Esau, and he is coming behind us.' "
  4. He also instructed the second, the third and all the others who followed the herds: "You are to say the same thing to Esau when you meet him.
  5. And be sure to say, 'Your servant Jacob is coming behind us.' " For he thought, "I will pacify him with these gifts I am sending on ahead; later, when I see him, perhaps he will receive me."
  1. 『あなたさまの 僕 ヤコブ も 後から 參ります 』と 言いなさい． 」 ヤコブ は， 贈り 物を 先に 行かせて 兄をなだめ， その 後で 顔を 合わせれば， 恐らく 快く 迎えてくれるだろうと 思ったのである．
  2. こうして， 贈り 物を 先に 行かせ， ヤコブ 自身は， その 夜， 野營地にとどまった．
  3. その 夜， ヤコブ は 起きて， 二人の 妻と 二人の 側女， それに 十一人の 子供を 連れて ヤボク の 渡しを 渡った．
  4. 皆を 導いて 川を 渡らせ， 持ち 物も 渡してしまうと，
  5. ヤコブ は 獨り 後に 殘った． そのとき， 何者かが 夜明けまで ヤコブ と 格鬪した．
  1. So Jacob's gifts went on ahead of him, but he himself spent the night in the camp.
  2. That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.
  3. After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions.
  4. So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.
  5. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.
  1. ところが， その 人は ヤコブ に 勝てないとみて， ヤコブ の 腿の 關節を 打ったので， 格鬪をしているうちに 腿の 關節がはずれた．
  2. 「もう 去らせてくれ． 夜が 明けてしまうから 」とその 人は 言ったが， ヤコブ は 答えた． 「いいえ， 祝福してくださるまでは 離しません． 」
  3. 「お 前の 名は 何というのか 」とその 人が 尋ね， 「ヤコブ です 」と 答えると，
  4. その 人は 言った． 「お 前の 名はもう ヤコブ ではなく， これからは イスラエル と 呼ばれる． お 前は 神と 人と 鬪って 勝ったからだ． 」
  5. 「どうか， あなたのお 名前を 敎えてください 」と ヤコブ が 尋ねると， 「どうして， わたしの 名を 尋ねるのか 」と 言って， ヤコブ をその 場で 祝福した．
  1. Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."
  2. The man asked him, "What is your name?" "Jacob," he answered.
  3. Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."
  4. Jacob said, "Please tell me your name." But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there.
  5. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."
  1. ヤコブ は， 「わたしは 顔と 顔とを 合わせて 神を 見たのに， なお 生きている 」と 言って， その 場所を ペヌエル （神の 顔 ）と 名付けた．
  2. ヤコブ が ペヌエル を 過ぎたとき， 太陽は 彼の 上に 昇った． ヤコブ は 腿を 痛めて 足を 引きずっていた．
  1. The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip.
  2. Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob's hip was touched near the tendon.
 
  에서와의 화해(33:1-33:20)    
 
  1. ヤコブ が 目を 上げると， エサウ が 四百人の 者を 引き 連れて 來るのが 見えた． ヤコブ は 子供たちをそれぞれ， レア と ラケル と 二人の 側女とに 分け，
  2. 側女とその 子供たちを 前に， レア とその 子供たちをその 後に， ラケル と ヨセフ を 最後に 置いた．
  3. ヤコブ はそれから， 先頭に 進み 出て， 兄のもとに 着くまでに 七度地にひれ 伏した．
  4. エサウ は 走って 來て ヤコブ を 迎え， 抱き 締め， 首を 抱えて 口づけし， 共に 泣いた．
  5. やがて， エサウ は 顔を 上げ， 女たちや 子供たちを 見回して 尋ねた． 「一緖にいるこの 人¿は 誰なのか． 」「あなたの 僕であるわたしに， 神が 惠んでくださった 子供たちです． 」 ヤコブ が 答えると，
  1. Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men; so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two maidservants.
  2. He put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear.
  3. He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother.
  4. But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept.
  5. Then Esau looked up and saw the women and children. "Who are these with you?" he asked. Jacob answered, "They are the children God has graciously given your servant."
  1. 側女たちが 子供たちと 共に 進み 出てひれ 伏し，
  2. 次に， レア が 子供たちと 共に 進み 出てひれ 伏し， 最後に， ヨセフ と ラケル が 進み 出てひれ 伏した．
  3. エサウ は 尋ねた． 「今， わたしが 出會ったあの 多くの 家畜は 何のつもりか． 」 ヤコブ が， 「御主人樣の 好意を 得るためです 」と 答えると，
  4. エサウ は 言った． 「弟よ， わたしのところには 何でも 十分ある． お 前のものはお 前が 持っていなさい． 」
  5. ヤコブ は 言った． 「いいえ． もし 御好意をいただけるのであれば， どうぞ 贈り 物をお 受け 取りください． 兄上のお 顔は， わたしには 神の 御顔のように 見えます． このわたしを 溫かく 迎えてくださったのですから．
  1. Then the maidservants and their children approached and bowed down.
  2. Next, Leah and her children came and bowed down. Last of all came Joseph and Rachel, and they too bowed down.
  3. Esau asked, "What do you mean by all these droves I met?" "To find favor in your eyes, my lord," he said.
  4. But Esau said, "I already have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself."
  5. "No, please!" said Jacob. "If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably.
  1. どうか， 持參しました 贈り 物をお 納めください． 神がわたしに 惠みをお 與えになったので， わたしは 何でも 持っていますから． 」 ヤコブ がしきりに 勸めたので， エサウ は 受け 取った．
  2. それから エサウ は 言った． 「さあ， 一緖に 出かけよう． わたしが 先導するから． 」
  3. 「御主人樣． ご 存じのように， 子供たちはか 弱く， わたしも 羊や 牛の 子に 乳を 飮ませる 世話をしなければなりません． 群れは， 一日でも 無理に 追い 立てるとみな 死んでしまいます．
  4. どうか 御主人樣， 僕におかまいなく 先にお 進みください． わたしは， ここにいる 家畜や 子供たちの 步みに 合わせてゆっくり 進み， セイル の 御主人樣のもとへ 參りましょう． 」 ヤコブ がこう 答えたので，
  5. エサウ は 言った． 「では， わたしが 連れている 者を 何人か， お 前のところに 殘しておくことにしよう． 」「いいえ． それには 及びません． 御好意だけで 十分です 」と 答えたので，
  1. Please accept the present that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me and I have all I need." And because Jacob insisted, Esau accepted it.
  2. Then Esau said, "Let us be on our way; I'll accompany you."
  3. But Jacob said to him, "My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young. If they are driven hard just one day, all the animals will die.
  4. So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the droves before me and that of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir."
  5. Esau said, "Then let me leave some of my men with you." "But why do that?" Jacob asked. "Just let me find favor in the eyes of my lord."
  1. エサウ は， その 日 セイル への 道を 歸って 行った．
  2. ヤコブ は スコト へ 行き， 自分の 家を 建て， 家畜の 小屋を 作った． そこで， その 場所の 名は スコト （小屋 ）と 呼ばれている．
  3. ヤコブ はこうして， パダン · アラム から 無事に カナン 地方にある シケム の 町に 着き， 町のそばに 宿營した．
  4. ヤコブ は， 天幕を 張った 土地の 一部を， シケム の 父 ハモル の 息子たちから 百 ケシタ で 買い 取り，
  5. そこに 祭壇を 建てて， それを エル · エロヘ · イスラエル と 呼んだ．
  1. So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir.
  2. Jacob, however, went to Succoth, where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Succoth.
  3. After Jacob came from Paddan Aram, he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped within sight of the city.
  4. For a hundred pieces of silver, he bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, the plot of ground where he pitched his tent.
  5. There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.
