- 偶像に 供えられた 肉について 言えば， 「我¿は 皆， 知識を 持っている 」ということは 確かです． ただ， 知識は 人を 高ぶらせるが， 愛は 造り 上げる．
- 自分は 何か 知っていると 思う 人がいたら， その 人は， 知らねばならぬことをまだ 知らないのです．
- しかし， 神を 愛する 人がいれば， その 人は 神に 知られているのです．
- そこで， 偶像に 供えられた 肉を 食べることについてですが， 世の 中に 偶像の 神などはなく， また， 唯一の 神以外にいかなる 神もいないことを， わたしたちは 知っています．
- 現に 多くの 神¿， 多くの 主がいると 思われているように， たとえ 天や 地に 神¿と 呼ばれるものがいても，

- Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
- And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
- But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
- As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
- For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

- わたしたちにとっては， 唯一の 神， 父である 神がおられ， 万物はこの 神から 出， わたしたちはこの 神へ 歸って 行くのです． また， 唯一の 主， イエス · キリスト がおられ， 万物はこの 主によって 存在し， わたしたちもこの 主によって 存在しているのです．
- しかし， この 知識がだれにでもあるわけではありません． ある 人たちは， 今までの 偶像になじんできた 習慣にとらわれて， 肉を 食べる 際に， それが 偶像に 供えられた 肉だということが 念頭から 去らず， 良心が 弱いために 汚されるのです．
- わたしたちを 神のもとに 導くのは， 食物ではありません． 食べないからといって， 何かを 失うわけではなく， 食べたからといって， 何かを 得るわけではありません．
- ただ， あなたがたのこの 自由な 態度が， 弱い 人¿を 罪に 誘うことにならないように， 氣をつけなさい．
- 知識を 持っているあなたが 偶像の 神殿で 食事の 席に 着いているのを， だれかが 見ると， その 人は 弱いのに， その 良心が 强められて， 偶像に 供えられたものを 食べるようにならないだろうか．

- But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
- Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
- But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
- But take heed lest by any means this liberty of your's become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
- For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

- そうなると， あなたの 知識によって， 弱い 人が 滅びてしまいます． その 兄弟のためにも キリスト が 死んでくださったのです．
- このようにあなたがたが， 兄弟たちに 對して 罪を 犯し， 彼らの 弱い 良心を 傷つけるのは， キリスト に 對して 罪を 犯すことなのです．
- それだから， 食物のことがわたしの 兄弟をつまずかせるくらいなら， 兄弟をつまずかせないために， わたしは 今後決して 肉を 口にしません．

- And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
- But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
- Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
