- さて， ある 人¿が ユダヤ から 下って 來て， 兄弟たちに， 「モ ― セ の 慣習に 從って 割禮を 受けなければ， あなたがたは 救われない． 」と 敎えていた．
- そして パウロ や バルナバ と 彼らとの 間に 激しい 對立と 論爭が 生じたので， パウロ と バルナバ と， その 仲間のうちの 幾人かが， この 問題について 使徒たちや 長老たちと 話し 合うために， エルサレム に 上ることになった．
- 彼らは 敎會の 人¿に 見送られ， フェニキヤ と サマリヤ を 通る 道¿で， 異邦人の 改宗のことを 詳しく 話したので， すべての 兄弟たちに 大きな 喜びをもたらした．
- エルサレム に 着くと， 彼らは 敎會と 使徒たちと 長老たちに 迎えられ， 神が 彼らとともにいて 行なわれたことを， みなに 報告した．
- しかし， パリサイ 派の 者で 信者になった 人¿が 立ち 上がり， 「異邦人にも 割禮を 受けさせ， また， モ ― セ の 律法を 守ることを 命じるべきである． 」と 言った．

- And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
- When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
- And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.
- And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.
- But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

- そこで 使徒たちと 長老たちは， この 問題を 檢討するために 集まった．
- 激しい 論爭があって 後， ペテロ が 立ち 上がって 言った． 「兄弟たち． ご 存じのとおり， 神は 初めのころ， あなたがたの 間で 事をお 決めになり， 異邦人が 私の 口から 福音のことばを 聞いて 信じるようにされたのです．
- そして， 人の 心の 中を 知っておられる 神は， 私たちに 與えられたと 同じように 異邦人にも 聖靈を 與えて， 彼らのためにあかしをし，
- 私たちと 彼らとに 何の 差別もつけず， 彼らの 心を 信仰によってきよめてくださったのです．
- それなのに， なぜ， 今あなたがたは， 私たちの 先祖も 私たちも 負いきれなかったくびきを， あの 弟子たちの 首に 掛けて， 神を 試みようとするのです．

- And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
- And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
- And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
- And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
- Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

- 私たちが 主 イエス の 惠みによって 救われたことを 私たちは 信じますが， あの 人たちもそうなのです． 」
- すると， 全會衆は 沈默してしまった． そして， バルナバ と パウロ が， 彼らを 通して 神が 異邦人の 間で 行なわれたしるしと 不思議なわざについて 話すのに， 耳を 傾けた．
- ふたりが 話し 終えると， ヤコブ がこう 言った． 「兄弟たち． 私の 言うことを 聞いてください．
- 神が 初めに， どのように 異邦人を 顧みて， その 中から 御名をもって 呼ばれる 民をお 召しになったかは， シメオン が 說明したとおりです．
- 預言者たちのことばもこれと 一致しており， それにはこう 書いてあります．

- But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
- Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.
- And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
- Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
- And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

- 『この 後， わたしは 歸って 來て， 倒れた ダビデ の 幕屋を 建て 直す． すなわち， 廢墟と 化した 幕屋を 建て 直し， それを 元どおりにする．
- それは， 殘った 人¿， すなわち， わたしの 名で 呼ばれる 異邦人がみな， 主を 求めるようになるためである．
- 大昔からこれらのことを 知らせておられる 主が， こう 言われる． 』
- そこで， 私の 判斷では， 神に 立ち 返る 異邦人を 惱ませてはいけません．
- ただ， 偶像に 供えて 汚れた 物と 不品行と 絞め 殺した 物と 血とを 避けるように 書き 送るべきだと 思います．

- After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
- That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
- Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
- Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
- But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

- 昔から， 町ごとに モ ― セ の 律法を 宣べる 者がいて， それが 安息日ごとに 諸會堂で 讀まれているからです． 」
- そこで 使徒たちと 長老たち， また， 全敎會もともに， 彼らの 中から 人を 選んで， パウロ や バルナバ といっしょに アンテオケ へ 送ることを 決議した． 選ばれたのは 兄弟たちの 中の 指導者たちで， バルサバ と 呼ばれる ユダ および シラス であった．
- 彼らはこの 人たちに 託して， こう 書き 送った． 「兄弟である 使徒および 長老たちは， アンテオケ ， シリヤ ， キリキヤ にいる 異邦人の 兄弟たちに， あいさつをいたします．
- 私たちの 中のある 者たちが， 私たちからは 何も 指示を 受けていないのに， いろいろなことを 言ってあなたがたを 動¿させ， あなたがたの 心を 亂したことを 聞きました．
- そこで， 私たちは 人¿を 選び， 私たちの 愛する バルナバ および パウロ といっしょに， あなたがたのところへ 送ることに 衆議一決しました．

- For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
- Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
- And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.
- Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
- It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

- この バルナバ と パウロ は， 私たちの 主 イエス · キリスト の 御名のために， いのちを 投げ 出した 人たちです．
- こういうわけで， 私たちは ユダ と シラス を 送りました． 彼らは 口頭で 同じ 趣旨のことを 傳えるはずです．
- 聖靈と 私たちは， 次のぜひ 必要な 事のほかは， あなたがたにその 上， どんな 重荷も 負わせないことを 決めました．
- すなわち， 偶像に 供えた 物と， 血と， 絞め 殺した 物と， 不品行とを 避けることです． これらのことを 注意深く 避けていれば， それで 結構です． 以上． 」
- さて， 一行は 送り 出されて， アンテオケ に 下り， 敎會の 人¿を 集めて， 手紙を 手渡した．

- Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
- For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
- That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
- So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

- それを 讀んだ 人¿は， その 勵ましによって 喜んだ．
- ユダ も シラス も 預言者であったので， 多くのことばをもって 兄弟たちを 勵まし， また 力づけた．
- 彼らは， しばらく 滯在して 後， 兄弟たちの 平安のあいさつに 送られて， 彼らを 送り 出した 人¿のところへ 歸って 行った．

- パウロ と バルナバ は アンテオケ にとどまって， ほかの 多くの 人¿とともに， 主のみことばを 敎え， 宣べ 傳えた．

- Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
- And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
- And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.
- Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
- Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
