- 十四日目の 夜になって， 私たちが アドリヤ 海を 漂っていると， 眞夜中ごろ， 水夫たちは， どこかの 陸地に 近づいたように 感じた．
- 水の 深さを 測ってみると， 四十 メ ― トル ほどであることがわかった． 少し 進んでまた 測ると， 三十 メ ― トル ほどであった．
- どこかで 暗礁に 乘り 上げはしないかと 心配して， ともから 四つの 錨を 投げおろし， 夜の 明けるのを 待った．
- ところが， 水夫たちは 船から 逃げ 出そうとして， へさきから 錨を 降ろすように 見せかけて， 小舟を 海に 降ろしていたので，
- パウロ は 百人隊長や 兵士たちに， 「あの 人たちが 船にとどまっていなければ， あなたがたも 助かりません． 」と 言った．

- But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
- And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.
- Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.
- And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,
- Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

- そこで 兵士たちは， 小舟の 綱を 斷ち 切って， そのまま 流れ 去るのに 任せた．
- ついに 夜の 明けかけたころ， パウロ は， 一同に 食事をとることを 勸めて， こう 言った． 「あなたがたは 待ちに 待って， きょうまで 何も 食べずに 過ごして， 十四日になります．
- ですから， 私はあなたがたに， 食事をとることを 勸めます． これであなたがたは 助かることになるのです． あなたがたの 頭から 髮一筋も 失われることはありません． 」
- こう 言って， 彼は パン を 取り， 一同の 前で 神に 感謝をささげてから， それを 裂いて 食べ 始めた．
- そこで 一同も 元氣づけられ， みなが 食事をとった．

- Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.
- And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.
- Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
- And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.
- Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

- 船にいた 私たちは 全部で 二百七十六人であった．
- 十分食べてから， 彼らは 麥を 海に 投げ 捨てて， 船を 輕くした．
- 夜が 明けると， どこの 陸地かわからないが， 砂浜のある 入江が 目に 留まったので， できれば， そこに 船を 乘り 入れようということになった．
- 錨を 切って 海に 捨て， 同時にかじ 綱を 解き， 風に 前の 帆を 上げて， 砂浜に 向かって 進んで 行った．
- ところが， 潮流の 流れ 合う 淺瀨に 乘り 上げて， 船を 座礁させてしまった． へさきはめり ¿んで 動かなくなり， ともは 激しい 波に 打たれて 破れ 始めた．

- And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.
- And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.
- And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
- And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.
- And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

- 兵士たちは， 囚人たちがだれも 泳いで 逃げないように， 殺してしまおうと 相談した．
- しかし 百人隊長は， パウロ をあくまでも 助けようと 思って， その 計畵を 押え， 泳げる 者がまず 海に 飛び ¿んで 陸に 上がるように，
- それから 殘りの 者は， 板切れや， その 他の， 船にある 物につかまって 行くように 命じた． こうして， 彼らはみな， 無事に 陸に 上がった．

- And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.
- But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:
- And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
