- わが 子よ． もし， あなたが 隣人のために 保證人となり， 他國人のために 誓約をし，
- あなたの 口のことばによって， あなた 自身がわなにかかり， あなたの 口のことばによって， 捕えられたなら，
- わが 子よ， そのときにはすぐこうして， 自分を 救い 出すがよい． あなたは 隣人の 手に 陷ったのだから， 行って， 伏して 隣人にしつこくせがむがよい．
- あなたの 目を 眠らせず， あなたのまぶたをまどろませず．
- かもしかが 狩人の 手からのがれるように， 鳥が 鳥を 取る 者の 手からのがれるように 自分を 救い 出せ．

- My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
- Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
- Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
- Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
- Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

- なまけ 者よ． 蟻のところへ 行き， そのやり 方を 見て， 知惠を 得よ．
- 蟻には 首領もつかさも 支配者もいないが，
- 夏のうちに 食物を 確保し， 刈り 入れ 時に 食糧を 集める．
- なまけ 者よ． いつまで 寢ているのか． いつ 目をさまして 起きるのか．
- しばらく 眠り， しばらくまどろみ， しばらく 手をこまねいて， また 休む．

- Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
- Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
- Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
- How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
- Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

- だから， あなたの 貧しさは 浮浪者のように， あなたの 乏しさは 橫着者のようにやって 來る．

- So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
