예레미야 37:1-38:28

 시드기야가 왕위에 오른 후, 애굽의 군대가 예루살렘에 진격해 오자 바벨론 군대가 일시적으로 철수하였다. 시드기야 왕은 이 상황을 바벨론으로부터 유다가 구원받는 절호의 기회로 보고 예레미야에게 기도를 요청했다. 그러나 예레미야는 다시 바벨론이 침공할 것이라고 예언했다. 이로 인해 예레미야는 구덩이에 갇히게 되었지만 아벳멜렉에 의해 구출받았다. 시드기야 왕은 비밀리에 예레미야를 만나 바벨론에 항복할 것을 권고받지만 예레미야의 경고를 듣지 않았다.
  
  시드기야와 예레미야(37:1-37:21)    
 
  1. ヨシヤ の 子 ゼデキヤ は， エホヤキム の 子 エコヌヤ に 代わって 王となった． バビロン の 王 ネブカデレザル が 彼を ユダ の 國の 王にしたのである．
  2. 彼も， その 家來たちも， 一般の 民衆も， 預言者 エレミヤ によって 語られた 主のことばに 聞き 從わなかった．

  1. And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
  2. But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
  3. And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.
  4. Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.
  5. Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.
  1. そのとき， 預言者 エレミヤ に 次のような 主のことばがあった．
  2. 「イスラエル の 神， 主は， こう 仰せられる． 『わたしに 尋ねるために， あなたがたをわたしのもとに 遣わした ユダ の 王にこう 言え． 見よ． あなたがたを 助けに 出て 來た パロ の 軍勢は， 自分たちの 國 エジプト へ 歸り，
  3. カルデヤ 人が 引き 返して 來て， この 町を 攻め 取り， これを 火で 燒く． 』
  4. 主はこう 仰せられる． 『あなたがたは， カルデヤ 人は 必ず 私たちから 去る， と 言って， みずから 欺くな． 彼らは 去ることはないからだ．
  5. たとい， あなたがたが， あなたがたを 攻める カルデヤ の 全軍勢を 打ち， その 中に 重傷を 負った 兵士たちだけが 殘ったとしても， 彼らがそれぞれ， その 天幕で 立ち 上がり， この 町を 火で 燒くようになる． 』」
  1. Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah saying,
  2. Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
  3. And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.
  4. Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.
  5. For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
  1. カルデヤ の 軍勢が パロ の 軍勢の 來るのを 聞いて エルサレム から 退却したとき，
  2. エレミヤ は， ベニヤミン の 地に 行き， 民の 間で 割り 當ての 地を 決めるために エルサレム から 出て 行った．

  1. And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,
  2. Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.
  3. And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
  4. Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
  5. Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
  1. エレミヤ は 丸天井の 地下牢に 入れられ， 長い 間そこにいた．

  1. When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
  2. Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
  3. Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
  4. Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
  5. Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
  1. そこで ゼデキヤ 王は 命じて， エレミヤ を 監視の 庭に 入れさせ， 町からすべての パン が 絶えるまで， パン 屋街から， 每日 パン 一個を 彼に 與えさせた． こうして， エレミヤ は 監視の 庭にとどまっていた．
  1. Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
 
  살아난 예레미야(38:1-38:28)    
 
  1. さて， マタン の 子 シェファテヤ と， パシュフル の 子 ゲダルヤ と， シェレムヤ の 子 ユカル と， マルキヤ の 子 パシュフル は， すべての 民に エレミヤ が 次のように 告げていることばを 聞いた．
  2. 「主はこう 仰せられる． 『この 町にとどまる 者は， 劍とききんと 疫病で 死ぬが， カルデヤ 人のところに 出て 行く 者は 生きる． 』そのいのちは 彼の 分捕り 物として 彼のものになり， 彼は 生きる． 』
  3. 主はこう 仰せられる． 『この 町は， 必ず， バビロン の 王の 軍勢の 手に 渡される． 彼はこれを 攻め 取る． 』」
  4. そこで， 首長たちは 王に 言った． 「どうぞ， あの 男を 殺してください． 彼はこのように， こんなことばをみなに 語り， この 町に 殘っている 戰士や， 民全體の 士氣をくじいているからです． あの 男は， この 民のために 平安を 求めず， かえってわざわいを 求めているからです． 」
  5. すると ゼデキヤ 王は 言った． 「今， 彼はあなたがたの 手の 中にある． 王は， あなたがたに 逆らっては 何もできない． 」
  1. Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
  2. Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
  3. Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which shall take it.
  4. Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
  5. Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.
  1. そこで 彼らは エレミヤ を 捕え， 監視の 庭にある 王子 マルキヤ の 穴に 投げ ¿んだ． 彼らは エレミヤ を 綱で 降ろしたが， 穴の 中には 水がなくて 泥があったので， エレミヤ は 泥の 中に 沈んだ．

  1. Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
  2. Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;
  3. Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spake to the king saying,
  4. My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
  5. Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.
  1. エベデ · メレク は 人¿を 率いて， 王宮の 寶物倉の 下に 行き， そこから 着ふるした 着物やぼろ 切れを 取り， それらを 綱で 穴の 中の エレミヤ のところに 降ろした．

  1. So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
  2. And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
  3. So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
  4. Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
  5. Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?
  1. そこで， ゼデキヤ 王は， ひそかに エレミヤ に 誓って 言った． 「私たちのこのいのちを 造られた 主は 生きておられる． 私は 決してあなたを 殺さない． また， あなたのいのちをねらうあの 人¿の 手に， あなたを 渡すことも 絶對にしない． 」
  2. すると エレミヤ は ゼデキヤ に 言った． 「イスラエル の 神， 万軍の 神， 主は， こう 仰せられる． 『もし， あなたが バビロン の 王の 首長たちに 降伏するなら， あなたのいのちは 助かり， この 町も 火で 燒かれず， あなたも， あなたの 家族も 生きのびる．
  3. あなたが バビロン の 王の 首長たちに 降伏しないなら， この 町は カルデヤ 人の 手に 渡され， 彼らはこれを 火で 燒き， あなたも 彼らの 手からのがれることができない． 』」
  4. しかし， ゼデキヤ 王は エレミヤ に 言った． 「私は， カルデヤ 人に 投降した ユダヤ 人たちを 恐れる． カルデヤ 人が 私を 彼らの 手に 渡し， 彼らが 私をなぶりものにするかもしれない． 」
  5. エレミヤ は 言った． 「彼らはあなたを 渡しません． どうぞ， 主の 聲， 私があなたに 語っていることに 聞き 從ってください． そうすれば， あなたはしあわせになり， あなたのいのちは 助かるのです．
  1. So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
  2. Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
  3. But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
  4. And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
  5. But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
  1. しかし， もしあなたが 降伏するのを 拒むなら， これが， 主の 私に 示されたみことばです．
  2. 『見よ． ユダ の 王の 家に 殘された 女たちはみな， バビロン の 王の 首長たちのところに 引き 出される． 聞け． 彼女らは 言う． ··あなたの 親友たちが， あなたをそそのかし， あなたに 勝った． 彼らはあなたの 足を 泥の 中に 沈ませ， 背を 向けてしまった．

  4. ゼデキヤ は エレミヤ に 言った． 「だれにも， これらのことを 知らせてはならない． そうすれば， あなたは 殺されることはない．
  5. もし， あの 首長たちが， 私があなたと 話したことを 聞いて， あなたのところに 行き， あなたに『さあ， 何を 王と 話したのか， 敎えてくれ． 私たちに 隱すな． あなたを 殺しはしない． 王はあなたに 何を 話したのだ． 』と 言っても，
  1. But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
  2. And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back.
  3. So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
  4. Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
  5. But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
  1. あなたは 彼らに， 『私を ヨナタン の 家に 返してそこで 私が 死ぬことがないようにしてくださいと， 王の 前に 嘆願していた． 』と 言いなさい． 」
  2. 首長たちがみな エレミヤ のところに 來て， 彼に 尋ねたとき， 彼は， 王が 命じたことばのとおりに， 彼らに 告げたので， 彼らは 默ってしまった． あのことはだれにも 聞かれなかったからである．
  3. エレミヤ は， エルサレム が 攻め 取られる 日まで， 監視の 庭にとどまっていた． 彼は エルサレム が 攻め 取られたときも， そこにいた．
  1. Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.
  2. Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
  3. So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.
 
  고니야( 37:1)  여호야긴  
  음실(陰室, 37:16)  본래 ‘무덤’을 뜻하나, 여기서는 어둡고 더러운 지하 감옥을 가리킴
