- アハブ は， エリヤ がしたすべての 事と， 預言者たちを 劍で 皆殺しにしたこととを 殘らず イゼベル に 告げた．
- すると， イゼベル は 使者を エリヤ のところに 遣わして 言った． 「もしも 私が， あすの 今ごろまでに， あなたのいのちをあの 人たちのひとりのいのちのようにしなかったなら， 神¿がこの 私を 幾重にも 罰せられるように． 」
- 彼は 恐れて 立ち， 自分のいのちを 救うため 立ち 去った． ユダ の ベエル · シェバ に 來たとき， 若い 者をそこに 殘し，
- 自分は 荒野へ 一日の 道のりをはいって 行った． 彼は， えにしだの 木の 陰にすわり， 自分の 死を 願って 言った． 「主よ． もう 十分です． 私のいのちを 取ってください． 私は 先祖たちにまさっていませんから． 」
- 彼がえにしだの 木の 下で 橫になって 眠っていると， ひとりの 御使いが 彼にさわって， 「起きて， 食べなさい． 」と 言った．

- And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
- Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
- And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
- But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
- And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

- 彼は 見た． すると， 彼の 頭のところに， 燒け 石で 燒いた パン 菓子一つと， 水のはいったつぼがあった． 彼はそれを 食べ， そして 飮んで， また 橫になった．
- それから， 主の 使いがもう 一度戾って 來て， 彼にさわり， 「起きて， 食べなさい． 旅はまだ 遠いのだから． 」と 言った．
- そこで， 彼は 起きて， 食べ， そして 飮み， この 食べ 物に 力を 得て， 四十日四十夜， 步いて 神の 山 ホレブ に 着いた．
- 彼はそこにあるほら 穴にはいり， そこで 一夜を 過ごした． すると， 彼への 主のことばがあった． 主は「エリヤ よ． ここで 何をしているのか． 」と 仰せられた．
- エリヤ は 答えた． 「私は 万軍の 神， 主に， 熱心に 仕えました． しかし， イスラエル の 人¿はあなたの 契約を 捨て， あなたの 祭壇をこわし， あなたの 預言者たちを 劍で 殺しました． ただ 私だけが 殘りましたが， 彼らは 私のいのちを 取ろうとねらっています． 」

- And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
- And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
- And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
- And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
- And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

- 主は 仰せられた． 「外に 出て， 山の 上で 主の 前に 立て． 」すると， そのとき， 主が 通り 過ぎられ， 主の 前で， 激しい 大風が 山¿を 裂き， 岩¿を ¿いた． しかし， 風の 中に 主はおられなかった． 風のあとに 地震が 起こったが， 地震の 中にも 主はおられなかった．
- 地震のあとに 火があったが， 火の 中にも 主はおられなかった． 火のあとに， かすかな 細い 聲があった．
- エリヤ はこれを 聞くと， すぐに 外套で 顔をおおい， 外に 出て， ほら 穴の 入口に 立った． すると， 聲が 聞こえてこう 言った． 「エリヤ よ． ここで 何をしているのか． 」
- エリヤ は 答えた． 「私は 万軍の 神， 主に， 熱心に 仕えました． しかし， イスラエル の 人¿はあなたの 契約を 捨て， あなたの 祭壇をこわし， あなたの 預言者たちを 劍で 殺しました． ただ 私だけが 殘りましたが， 彼らは 私のいのちを 取ろうとねらっています． 」
- 主は 彼に 仰せられた． 「さあ， ダマスコ の 荒野へ 歸って 行け． そこに 行き， ハザエル に 油をそそいで， アラム の 王とせよ．

- And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
- And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
- And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
- And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
- And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

- また， ニムシ の 子 エフ ―に 油をそそいで， イスラエル の 王とせよ． また， アベル · メホラ の 出の シャファテ の 子 エリシャ に 油をそそいで， あなたに 代わる 預言者とせよ．
- ハザエル の 劍をのがれる 者を エフ ―が 殺し， エフ ―の 劍をのがれる 者を エリシャ が 殺す．
- しかし， わたしは イスラエル の 中に 七千人を 殘しておく． これらの 者はみな， バアル にひざをかがめず， バアル に 口づけしなかった 者である． 」
- エリヤ はそこを 立って 行って， シャファテ の 子 エリシャ を 見つけた． エリシャ は， 十二くびきの 牛を 先に 立て， その 十二番目のくびきのそばで 耕していた． エリヤ が 彼のところを 通り 過ぎて 自分の 外套を 彼に 掛けたので，
- エリシャ は 牛をほうっておいて， エリヤ のあとを 追いかけて 行って 言った． 「私の 父と 母とに 口づけさせてください． それから， あなたに 從って 行きますから． 」 エリヤ は 彼に 言った． 「行って 來なさい． 私があなたに 何をしたというのか． 」

- And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
- And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
- Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
- So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
- And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

- エリシャ は 引き 返して 來て， 一くびきの 牛を 取り， それを 殺し， 牛の 用具でその 肉を 調理し， 家族の 者たちに 與えてそれを 食べさせた． それから， 彼は 立って， エリヤ について 行って， 彼に 仕えた．

- And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
