- See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.
- For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,
- and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;
- and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;
- having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

- 여러분은 헛된 철학의 속임수에 사로잡히지 않도록 조심하십시오. 그것은 세속의 원리를 기초로 인간이 만들어서 전해 준 것이지 그리스도를 기초로 한 것은 아닙니다.
- 그리스도의 인성 안에는 하느님의 완전한 신성이 깃들어 있습니다.
- 여러분도 그리스도와 하나가 됨으로써 완전에 이르게 됩니다. 그리스도는 하늘의 어떤 권세나 세력보다 더 높은 분이십니다.
- 여러분은 세속적인 육체를 벗어버리고 그리스도와 하나가 되어 형식이 아닌 진정한 할례, 곧 그리스도의 할례를 받았습니다.
- 여러분은 그리스도의 할례, 곧 세례를 받음으로써 그리스도와 함께 묻혔고 또 그리스도와 함께 다시 살아났습니다. 그리스도를 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 살리신 하느님의 능력을 믿었기 때문입니다.

- When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,
- having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
- When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
- Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day--
- things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

- 여러분이 전에는 잘못을 저질렀고, 할례를 받지 않은 이방인으로서 영적으로 죽은 사람들이었으나, 이제 하느님께서 여러분을 그리스도와 함께 다시 살려주시고 우리의 잘못을 모두 용서해 주셨습니다.
- 또 하느님께서는 여러 가지 달갑지 않은 조항이 들어 있는 우리의 빚문서를 무효화하시고 그것을 십자가에 못박아 없애버리셨습니다.
- 그리고 십자가로 권세와 세력의 천신들을 사로잡아 그 무장을 해제시키시고 그들을 구경거리로 삼아 끌고 개선의 행진을 하셨습니다.
- 그러므로 여러분은 먹고 마시는 문제나 명절 지키는 일이나 초생달 축제와 안식일을 지키는 문제로 아무에게도 비난을 사지 마십시오.
- 이런 것은 장차 올 것의 상징에 지나지 않고 그 본체는 그리스도입니다.

- Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,
- and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.
- If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as,
- "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!"
- (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)--in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?

- 여러분은 겸손한 체하거나 천사를 숭배하는 자들에게 속아서 여러분이 받을 상을 빼앗기지 마십시오. 그들은 보이는 것에만 정신을 팔고 세속적인 생각으로 헛된 교만에 부풀어 있습니다.
- 그리고 그들은 그리스도를 머리로 하는 몸의 지체가 아닙니다. 몸 전체는 각 마디와 힘줄을 통하여 영양을 받으며 서로 연결되어 하느님의 계획대로 자라나는 것입니다.
- 여러분이 그리스도와 함께 죽고 세속의 유치한 원리들을 버렸다면 어찌하여 아직도 이 세상에 속하여 사는 것처럼
- "이것은 집지 말고, 저것은 맛보지 말고, 그것은 건드리지 마라." 하는 따위의 규정에 묶여 있습니까?
- 이런 것은 모두 한번 쓰고 나면 없어져 버릴 것으로서 인간이 명령하고 가르치는 것입니다.

- These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

- 이런 규정은 제멋대로의 예배와 과장된 겸손과 부질없는 금욕주의 따위로 현명한 것처럼 보이지만 실상 육체의 욕망을 제어하는 데는 조금도 힘이 없습니다.
