- On the twenty-first of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet saying,
- "Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people saying,
- 'Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem to you like nothing in comparison?
- 'But now take courage, Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD, 'take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,' declares the LORD, 'and work; for I am with you,' declares the LORD of hosts.
- 'As for the promise which I made you when you came out of Egypt, My Spirit is abiding in your midst; do not fear!'

- 그 해 칠월 이십일일, 주께서 예언자 하깨를 시켜 말씀을 내리셨다.
- "스알디엘의 아들 즈루빠벨 유다 총독과 여호사닥의 아들 여호수아 대사제와 그 밖에 살아 남은 모든 백성에게 일러라.
- '이 성전이 예전에는 얼마나 영광스러웠더냐? 너희 가운데 그것을 본 사람이 더러 남아 있으리라. 그런데 지금 이 성전은 어떠하냐? 너희의 눈에도 이 따위는 있으나마나 하지 않으냐?
- 그러나 즈루빠벨아, 힘을 내어라. 나 야훼의 말이다. 여호사닥의 아들 대사제 여호수아야, 힘을 내어라. 이 땅 모든 백성들아, 힘을 내어라. 그리고 일을 시작하여라. 내가 너희 곁에 있어주리라. 만군의 야훼가 말한다.
- 너희가 이집트에서 나올 때 너희와 계약을 맺으며 약속한 대로 나의 영이 너희 가운데 머물러 있을 터이니, 겁내지 마라

- "For thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land.
- 'I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD of hosts.
- 'The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,' declares the LORD of hosts.
- 'The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,' says the LORD of hosts, 'and in this place I will give peace,' declares the LORD of hosts."
- On the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Haggai the prophet, saying,

- 나 만군의 야훼가 말한다. 나는 이제 곧 하늘과 땅, 바다와 육지를 뒤흔들고
- 뭇 민족도 뒤흔들리라. 그리하면 뭇 민족이 보화를 가지고 오리니, 내가 내리는 영광이 이 성전에 차고 넘치리라. 야훼의 말이다.
- 은도 나의 것이요, 금도 나의 것이다. 만군의 야훼가 말한다.
- 지금 짓는 이 성전이 예전의 성전보다 더 영화로울 것이다. 만군의 야훼가 말한다. 나는 이 곳에 평화를 주리라. 만군의 야훼가 말한다.'"
- 다리우스 제이년 구월 이십사일, 야훼께서 예언자 하깨를 시켜 말씀을 내리셨다.

- "Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Ask now the priests for a ruling:
- 'If a man carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and touches bread with this fold, or cooked food, wine, oil, or any other food, will it become holy?'" And the priests answered, "No."
- Then Haggai said, "If one who is unclean from a corpse touches any of these, will the latter become unclean?" And the priests answered, "It will become unclean."
- Then Haggai said, " 'So is this people. And so is this nation before Me,' declares the LORD, 'and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.
- 'But now, do consider from this day onward: before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the LORD,

- "나 만군의 야훼가 말한다. 너는 사제들에게 법을 물어보아라.
- 제물로 바쳤던 고기를 싼 옷자락에 빵이나 익힌 음식이나 포도주나 올리브 기름이나 그 밖에 어떤 음식이 닿았다고 하여, 그런 것이 제물처럼 거룩해지느냐고 물어보아라." 사제들은 그렇지 않다고 대답하였다.
- 하깨가 또 "몸이 시체에 닿아 부정을 탄 사람이 어떤 음식을 만졌다면, 그 음식도 부정을 타느냐?" 하고 물으니 사제들은 부정을 탄다고 대답하였다.
- 이 말을 받아 하깨는 이렇게 전하였다. "이 백성, 이 민족도 마찬가지다. 그런 사람이 만든 것도 마찬가지다. 야훼의 말이다. 거기에 닿으면 무엇이든지 부정을 탄다.
- 그러니 이제 너희는 주의 성전을 짓기 시작한 이 날부터 일이 어떻게 되어 가는지 눈여겨보아라.

- from that time when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, there would be only ten; and when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there would be only twenty.
- 'I smote you and every work of your hands with blasting wind, mildew and hail; yet you did not come back to Me,' declares the LORD.
- 'Do consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month; from the day when the temple of the LORD was founded, consider:
- 'Is the seed still in the barn? Even including the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree, it has not borne fruit. Yet from this day on I will bless you.'"
- Then the word of the LORD came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,

- 이제까지는 곡식 스무 단이 나던 곳에서 열 단밖에 나지 않았고, 포도주 쉰 동이가 나던 술틀에서 스무 동이밖에 나지 않았다.
- 나는 너희가 괘씸하여 너희 손으로 가꾼 것은 다 말라 쭉정이나 깜부기가 되게 하였고, 또 우박으로 짓부수기도 하였다. 그래도 너희는 나에게 마음을 돌리려 하지 않았다. 야훼의 말이다.
- 너희는 야훼의 성전 주추를 놓은 구월 이십사일, 바로 이 날부터 앞으로 어떻게 달라지는지 눈여겨보아라.
- 곳간에 둔 종자가 줄어드는지, 포도, 무화과, 석류, 올리브가 열리는지 안 열리는지 두고 보아라. 나는 이 날부터 복을 내리기로 하였다."
- 그 달 이십사일, 야훼께서 하깨에게 또다시 말씀을 내리셨다.

- "Speak to Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying, 'I am going to shake the heavens and the earth.
- 'I will overthrow the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots and their riders, and the horses and their riders will go down, everyone by the sword of another.'
- 'On that day,' declares the LORD of hosts, 'I will take you, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant,' declares the LORD, 'and I will make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you,'" declares the LORD of hosts.

- "너는 유다 총독 즈루빠벨에게 이렇게 일러라. '내가 하늘과 땅을 뒤흔들리라.
- 또 뭇 나라 옥좌를 뒤엎고 뭇 민족의 힘을 꺾으리라. 병거대를 뒤집어엎고 기마대는 저희끼리 싸우다가 서로 칼에 맞아 쓰러지게 하리라.
- 그 날이 오면, 만군의 야훼가 말한다. 스알디엘의 아들 즈루빠벨아, 내가 너를 들어올리리라. 너는 나의 종이다. 만군의 야훼가 말한다. 내가 너를 뽑았으니 너는 옥새처럼 소중하다. 만군의 야훼가 말한다.'"
