민수기 22:1-23:30

이스라엘 자손이 모압 평지에 진을 치자, 위협을 느낀 모압 왕 발락은 우상의 힘이라도 빌려 이를 저지하고자 당대의 유명한 복술가인 발람을 초청하였다. 그러나 하나님께서 발람에게 임하셔서 이스라엘을 저주하는 대신 오히려 축복하게 하셨다.
 
  발락의 발람 초청(22:1-22:41)    
 
  1. Then the sons of Israel journeyed, and camped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan opposite Jericho.
  2. Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
  3. So Moab was in great fear because of the people, for they were numerous; and Moab was in dread of the sons of Israel.
  4. Moab said to the elders of Midian, "Now this horde will lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field." And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.
  5. So he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, at Pethor, which is near the River, in the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying, "Behold, a people came out of Egypt; behold, they cover the surface of the land, and they are living opposite me.
  1. 이스라엘 백성은 다시 행진하여 여리고 맞은편 요단강 동쪽 모압 평야에 진을 쳤다.
  2. 이때 십볼의 아들 모압 왕 발락은 이스라엘 백성이 아모리 사람들에게 행한 모든 일과 그들의 수가 많다는 말을 듣고 자기 백성들과 함께 공포에 떨고 있었다.
  3. (2절과 같음)
  4. 그래서 모압 사람들은 미디안 지도자들에게 가서 '이 이스라엘 무리들이 마치 소가 초원에 풀을 뜯어먹듯이 우리 주변의 모든 것을 먹어 치우려고 합니다.' 하였다. 그리고 발락 왕은
  5. 유프라테스강 근처 자기 고향 브돌에 살고 있는 브올의 아들 발람을 불러오라고 사람을 보내면서 그에게 이렇게 전하라고 지시하였다. '한 민족이 이집트에서 나와 온 땅을 휩쓸며 우리 곁에까지 와 있습니다.
  1. "Now, therefore, please come, curse this people for me since they are too mighty for me; perhaps I may be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed."
  2. So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the fees for divination in their hand; and they came to Balaam and repeated Balak's words to him.
  3. He said to them, "Spend the night here, and I will bring word back to you as the LORD may speak to me." And the leaders of Moab stayed with Balaam.
  4. Then God came to Balaam and said, "Who are these men with you?"
  5. Balaam said to God, "Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent word to me,
  1. 그들은 우리보다 훨씬 강합니다. 제발 와서 나를 위해 그들을 저주해 주시오. 그러면 내가 그들을 무찔러 내 땅에서 몰아낼 수 있을 것입니다. 당신이 축복하는 자는 복을 받고 당신이 저주하는 자는 저주받는 줄을 내가 알고 있습니다.'
  2. 모압 지도자들과 미디안 지도자들은 돈을 가지고 발람에게 가서 발락이 한 말을 그대로 전하였다.
  3. 그러자 발람이 '오늘 밤은 여기서 지내시오. 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하시는 대로 당신들에게 대답하겠소' 하였다. 그래서 모압 지도자들은 거기서 발람과 함께 그 날 밤을 보냈다.
  4. 그 날 밤 하나님께서 발람에게 '너와 함께 있는 이 사람들이 누구냐?' 하고 물으셨다.
  5. 그래서 발람은 이렇게 대답하였다. '이들은 모압 왕 십볼의 아들 발락이 보낸 사람들입니다. 발락은 이들을 통해 나에게 이런 말을 전했습니다.
  1. 'Behold, there is a people who came out of Egypt and they cover the surface of the land; now come, curse them for me; perhaps I may be able to fight against them and drive them out.'"
  2. God said to Balaam, "Do not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed."
  3. So Balaam arose in the morning and said to Balak's leaders, "Go back to your land, for the LORD has refused to let me go with you."
  4. The leaders of Moab arose and went to Balak and said, "Balaam refused to come with us."
  5. Then Balak again sent leaders, more numerous and more distinguished than the former.
  1. 이집트에서 한 민족이 나와 온 땅을 휩쓸고 있으니 나를 위해 그들을 저주해 주시오. 그러면 내가 싸워 그들을 몰아낼 수 있을 것입니다.'
  2. 그때 하나님이 발람에게 '너는 이들과 함께 가지도 말고 그 백성을 저주하지도 말아라. 그들은 복을 받은 자들이다.' 하고 말씀하셨다.
  3. 발람은 다음날 아침에 일어나서 발락이 보낸 사람들에게 '당신들은 돌아가시오. 여호와께서는 내가 당신들과 함께 가는 것을 허락하지 않으셨습니다.' 하고 말하였다.
  4. 그래서 모압의 지도자들은 발락에게 돌아가서 '발람이 우리와 함께 오는 것을 거절하였습니다.' 하고 보고하였다.
  5. 그러자 발락은 다시 그들보다 지위가 더 높은 사람들을 전보다 많이 보냈는데
  1. They came to Balaam and said to him, "Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, 'Let nothing, I beg you, hinder you from coming to me;
  2. for I will indeed honor you richly, and I will do whatever you say to me. Please come then, curse this people for me.'"
  3. Balaam replied to the servants of Balak, "Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything, either small or great, contrary to the command of the LORD my God.
  4. "Now please, you also stay here tonight, and I will find out what else the LORD will speak to me."
  5. God came to Balaam at night and said to him, "If the men have come to call you, rise up and go with them; but only the word which I speak to you shall you do."
  1. 그들은 발람에게 가서 발락의 말을 이렇게 전하였다. '나에게 오는 것을 꺼려하지 마시오.
  2. 내가 당신에게 충분히 사례하고 또 당신이 무슨 말을 해도 다 들어주겠소. 그러니 제발 와서 나를 위해 이 백성을 저주해 주시오.'
  3. 그러나 발람이 그들에게 대답하였다. '발락 왕이 금은 보화가 가득한 궁전을 나에게 준다고 해도 나는 내 하나님 여호와의 명령을 어기는 일은 그 어떤 것도 할 수 없소.
  4. 그러나 당신들도 오늘 밤은 여기서 보내시오. 혹시 여호와께서 나에게 일러 줄 다른 말씀이 있는지 알아보겠소'
  5. 그 날 밤 하나님이 발람에게 '그 사람들이 너를 데리러 왔거든 그들과 함께 가거라. 그러나 너는 내가 말하는 대로만 하여라.' 하고 말씀하셨다.
  1. So Balaam arose in the morning, and saddled his donkey and went with the leaders of Moab.
  2. But God was angry because he was going, and the angel of the LORD took his stand in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey and his two servants were with him.
  3. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand, the donkey turned off from the way and went into the field; but Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back into the way.
  4. Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path of the vineyards, with a wall on this side and a wall on that side.
  5. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed herself to the wall and pressed Balaam's foot against the wall, so he struck her again.
  1. 그래서 다음 날 아침 발람은 나귀에 안장을 지우고 그들과 함께 갔다.
  2. 그러나 하나님께서는 발람이 그들과 함께 가는 것을 보시고 몹시 분노하셨다. 발람이 두 종을 거느리고 나귀를 타고 가고 있을 때 여호와의 천사가 그의 길을 막아섰다.
  3. 그러자 나귀는 여호와의 천사가 칼을 빼들고 길에 서 있는 것을 보고 길을 벗어나 밭으로 들어갔다. 그래서 발람은 나귀를 길로 다시 들어서게 하려고 채찍질하였다.
  4. 이번에는 여호와의 천사가 두 포도원 사이에 있는 좁은 길에 섰는데 양쪽에는 담이 있었다.
  5. 나귀가 여호와의 천사를 보고 몸을 담에 대고 버티며 발람의 발을 담에 비벼 상하게 하자 발람이 다시 채찍질하였다.
  1. The angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn to the right hand or the left.
  2. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; so Balaam was angry and struck the donkey with his stick.
  3. And the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?"
  4. Then Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have made a mockery of me! If there had been a sword in my hand, I would have killed you by now."
  5. The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden all your life to this day? Have I ever been accustomed to do so to you?" And he said, "No."
  1. 그때 여호와의 천사는 앞으로 더 나아가서 좌우로 빠져 나갈 틈이 없는 좁은 곳에 섰다.
  2. 나귀가 그 천사를 보고 땅에 엎드리자 발람이 화가 나서 자기 지팡이로 나귀를 때렸다.
  3. 그때 여호와께서 나귀의 입을 열어 말할 수 있게 하시자 나귀가 발람에게 이렇게 말하였다. '내가 무엇을 잘못했다고 이렇게 세 번씩이나 나를 때리십니까?'
  4. '네가 나를 놀렸기 때문이다. 내 손에 칼만 있었더라면 벌써 너를 죽여 버렸을 것이다.'
  5. '나는 오늘까지 당신이 평생 타고 다니는 나귀가 아닙니까? 내가 당신에게 이렇게 한 적이 있었습니까?' '없었다.'
  1. Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand; and he bowed all the way to the ground.
  2. The angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way was contrary to me.
  3. "But the donkey saw me and turned aside from me these three times. If she had not turned aside from me, I would surely have killed you just now, and let her live."
  4. Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned, for I did not know that you were standing in the way against me. Now then, if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back."
  5. But the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but you shall speak only the word which I tell you." So Balaam went along with the leaders of Balak.
  1. 그때 여호와께서 발람의 눈을 밝히시자 그는 여호와의 천사가 칼을 빼들고 길에 서 있는 것을 보고 머리를 숙이며 땅에 엎드렸다.
  2. 그러자 천사가 말하였다. '너는 왜 나귀를 이와 같이 세 번씩이나 때렸느냐? 네가 가서는 안 될 길을 가기 때문에 내가 너를 막으려고 왔으나
  3. 나귀가 나를 보고 세 번이나 피해갔다. 만일 나귀가 피하지 않았더라면 내가 벌써 너를 죽이고 나귀만 살려 두었을 것이다.'
  4. '내가 죄를 범했습니다. 나는 당신이 나를 막으려고 길에 서 있는 것을 몰랐습니다. 내가 가는 것을 기쁘게 여기지 않으신다면 집으로 돌아가겠습니다.'
  5. '이 사람들과 함께 가거라. 그러나 너는 내가 너에게 일러 주는 말만 해야 한다.' 그래서 발람은 그들과 함께 갔다.
  1. When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the city of Moab, which is on the Arnon border, at the extreme end of the border.
  2. Then Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not urgently send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I really unable to honor you?"
  3. So Balaam said to Balak, "Behold, I have come now to you! Am I able to speak anything at all? The word that God puts in my mouth, that I shall speak."
  4. And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath-huzoth.
  5. Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent some to Balaam and the leaders who were with him.
  1. 발락은 발람이 온다는 말을 듣고 모압의 국경 아르논 강변에 있는 아르성에까지 가서 그를 반갑게 맞으며
  2. '내가 당신을 급히 불렀는데 왜 속히 오지 않았소? 내가 당신에게 사례하지 않을 줄 알았소?' 하였다.
  3. 그래서 발람은 발락에게 '내가 이렇게 오기는 하였습니다마는 무엇을 말할 수 있겠습니까? 다만 하나님이 나에게 일러 주시는 말만 할 따름입니다.' 하고 대답하였다.
  4. 그리고서 발람은 발락과 함께 기럇-후솟으로 갔다.
  5. 거기서 발락은 소와 양을 잡아 발람과 그리고 자기와 함께 있는 지도자들을 대접하였다.
  1. Then it came about in the morning that Balak took Balaam and brought him up to the high places of Baal, and he saw from there a portion of the people.
  1. 다음 날 아침 발락은 발람을 데리고 바못-바알산으로 올라갔으며 거기서 발람은 이스라엘 백성을 내려다보았다.
 
  발람의 예언(23:1-23:30)    
 
  1. Then Balaam said to Balak, "Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here."
  2. Balak did just as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.
  3. Then Balaam said to Balak, "Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the LORD will come to meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you." So he went to a bare hill.
  4. Now God met Balaam, and he said to Him, "I have set up the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on each altar."
  5. Then the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth and said, "Return to Balak, and you shall speak thus."
  1. 발람이 발락에게 '여기에 7개의 제단을 쌓고 수송아지 7마리와 수양 7마리를 준비해 주십시오.' 하였다.
  2. 그래서 발락은 발람이 말한 대로 하였고 그들 두 사람은 각 제단마다 수송아지 한 마리와 수양 한 마리씩 바쳤다.
  3. 그리고서 발람은 발락에게 '당신은 당신의 번제물 곁에 서 계십시오. 나는 저리로 가서 여호와께서 나를 만나 주실는지 알아보겠습니다. 여호와께서 나에게 보여 주시는 것이 있으면 무엇이든지 당신에게 말씀드리겠습니다.' 하고 혼자 산꼭대기로 올라갔다.
  4. 하나님이 거기서 그를 만나시자 발람은 '내가 7개의 제단을 쌓고 각 제단마다 수송아지와 수양을 한 마리씩 드렸습니다.' 하였다.
  5. 여호와께서는 발락에게 한 말을 그에게 일러 주시며 가서 발락에게 전하라고 말씀하셨다.
  1. So he returned to him, and behold, he was standing beside his burnt offering, he and all the leaders of Moab.
  2. He took up his discourse and said, "From Aram Balak has brought me, Moab's king from the mountains of the East, 'Come curse Jacob for me, And come, denounce Israel!'
  3. "How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how can I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?
  4. "As I see him from the top of the rocks, And I look at him from the hills; Behold, a people who dwells apart, And will not be reckoned among the nations.
  5. "Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the upright, And let my end be like his!"
  1. 그래서 발람이 돌아가보니 발락과 모압의 모든 지도자들이 번제물 곁에 그대로 서 있었다.
  2. 그때 발람은 이렇게 읊었다. '모압 왕 발락이 나를 아람 땅 동편 산에서 데려와 나를 위해 야곱을 저주하라. 이스라엘을 꾸짖으라 하는구나!
  3. 하나님이 저주하시지 않은 자를 내가 어찌 저주하며 여호와께서 꾸짖지 않으신 자를 내가 어찌 꾸짖으랴?
  4. 내가 높은 바위에서 그들을 보며 산언덕에서 그들을 바라보니 그들은 홀로 사는 민족이요 다른 민족과 구별되는 특이한 민족이구나.
  5. 이스라엘 자손들이 땅의 티끌같이 많으니 누가 그 수를 헤아릴 수 있으랴! 나는 의로운 이스라엘 백성처럼 죽기를 원하며 나의 종말이 그들의 종말과 같기를 원하노라!'
  1. Then Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, but behold, you have actually blessed them!"
  2. He replied, "Must I not be careful to speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?"
  3. Then Balak said to him, "Please come with me to another place from where you may see them, although you will only see the extreme end of them and will not see all of them; and curse them for me from there."
  4. So he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
  5. And he said to Balak, "Stand here beside your burnt offering while I myself meet the LORD over there."
  1. 그러자 발락은 발람에게 '어떻게 당신이 나에게 이럴 수가 있단 말이오? 내 원수들을 저주해 달라고 당신을 데려왔더니 오히려 당신은 그들을 축복만 하였소!' 하자
  2. 발람은 '여호와께서 나에게 주시는 말씀을 내가 어떻게 말하지 않을 수 있습니까?' 하고 대답하였다.
  3. 그때 발락은 발람에게 '그들의 일부만 볼 수 있는 다른 곳으로 나와 함께 갑시다. 거기서 나를 위해 그들을 저주해 주시오!' 하고 말한 후에
  4. 그를 데리고 비스가산의 소빔 고원으로 가서 거기에 7개의 제단을 쌓고 각 제단마다 수송아지와 수양을 한 마리씩 바쳤다.
  5. 그리고 발람은 발락에게 '당신의 번제물 곁에 서 계십시오. 나는 저기 가서 여호와를 만나겠습니다.' 하고 말하였다.
  1. Then the LORD met Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak."
  2. He came to him, and behold, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the leaders of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, "What has the LORD spoken?"
  3. Then he took up his discourse and said, "Arise, O Balak, and hear; Give ear to me, O son of Zippor!
  4. "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
  5. "Behold, I have received a command to bless; When He has blessed, then I cannot revoke it.
  1. 여호와께서 발람을 만나 발락에게 할 말을 일러 주셨다.
  2. 그래서 그가 돌아와 보니 발락은 모압의 지도자들과 함께 번제물 곁에 그대로 서 있었다. 그때 발락이 '여호와께서 무슨 말씀을 하셨소?' 하고 발람에게 묻자
  3. 그는 이렇게 읊었다. '발락 왕이여, 내 말을 들으시오. 십볼의 아들이여, 내 말에 귀를 기울이시오.
  4. 하나님은 사람이 아니시니 거짓말을 하지 않으시며 인간이 아니시니 후회하지 않으십니다. 어찌 그가 말씀하시고 행하지 않으시며 약속하시고 지키지 않으시겠소?
  5. 내가 축복하라는 명령을 받았으니 그가 내리신 복을 내가 바꾸어 놓을 수 없구려.
  1. "He has not observed misfortune in Jacob; Nor has He seen trouble in Israel; The LORD his God is with him, And the shout of a king is among them.
  2. "God brings them out of Egypt, He is for them like the horns of the wild ox.
  3. "For there is no omen against Jacob, Nor is there any divination against Israel; At the proper time it shall be said to Jacob And to Israel, what God has done!
  4. "Behold, a people rises like a lioness, And as a lion it lifts itself; It will not lie down until it devours the prey, And drinks the blood of the slain."
  5. Then Balak said to Balaam, "Do not curse them at all nor bless them at all!"
  1. 이스라엘은 불행이나 시련을 당하지 않으리라. 그들의 하나님 여호와께서 그들과 함께 하시니 그들이 여호와를 왕으로 부르는구나.
  2. 하나님이 그들을 이집트에서 인도해 내어 그들을 위해 들소처럼 싸우시니
  3. 야곱을 해칠 마술이 없고 이스라엘을 해칠 점술이 없구나. 이제 사람들이 이스라엘에 대하여 하나님이 그들을 위해 행하신 놀라운 일을 보라 하고 말하리라.
  4. 이 백성이 사자같이 일어나서 잡은 먹이를 삼키고 그 피를 마시기 전에는 누워 쉬지 않으리라.'
  5. 그러자 발락이 발람에게 '당신이 그들을 저주하지 않으려면 축복도 하지 마시오!' 하였다.
  1. But Balaam replied to Balak, "Did I not tell you, 'Whatever the LORD speaks, that I must do'?"
  2. Then Balak said to Balaam, "Please come, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will be agreeable with God that you curse them for me from there."
  3. So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor which overlooks the wasteland.
  4. Balaam said to Balak, "Build seven altars for me here and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here."
  5. Balak did just as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.
  1. 그래서 발람은 '여호와께서 말씀하시는 대로 할 수밖에 없다고 내가 당신에게 말하지 않았습니까?' 하고 대답하였다.
  2. 그때 발락은 '그러면 다른 곳으로 가 봅시다. 아마 거기서는 하나님도 당신이 그들을 저주하는 것을 기뻐하실 것이오' 하고
  3. 발람을 광야가 바라다 보이는 브올산 꼭대기로 데리고 갔다.
  4. 거기서도 발람은 발락에게 7개의 제단을 쌓고 수송아지 7마리와 수양7마리를 준비하라고 하였다.
  5. 그래서 발락은 발람이 말한 대로 하고 각 제단마다 수송아지와 수양을 한 마리씩 드렸다.
