	사무엘상 29:1-31:13 블레셋과 이스라엘의 전쟁에 참여한 다윗은 동족과 싸워야 할 위기에 처했으나, 블레셋 방백들의 견제로 그 위기를 모면했다. 아말렉이 시글락을 약탈하자 다윗은 그 뒤를 추격하여 탈취당한 노략물을 되찾아 분배했다. 사울이 블레셋과의 전투에서 패하여 그의 아들들과 함께 죽자, 길르앗 야베스 사람들이 그 시체를 수습하여 장사했다.

	다윗과 아기스(29:1-29:11)

Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek, while the Israelites were camping by the spring which is in Jezreel.

And the lords of the Philistines were proceeding on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were proceeding on in the rear with Achish.

Then the commanders of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews doing here?" And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines, "Is this not David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years, and I have found no fault in him from the day he deserted to me to this day?"

But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him, and the commanders of the Philistines said to him, "Make the man go back, that he may return to his place where you have assigned him, and do not let him go down to battle with us, or in the battle he may become an adversary to us. For with what could this man make himself acceptable to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of these men?

"Is this not David, of whom they sing in the dances, saying, 'Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands'?"

그때 블레셋군은 아벡에 집결하였고 이스라엘군은 이스르엘 계곡 샘 곁에 진을 쳤다.

블레셋 왕들은 그들의 군대를 수백 또는 수천 명의 단위로 부대를 편성하여 나왔고 다윗과 그의 부하들은 뒤에서 아기스 왕과 함께 진군하였다.

그러나 블레셋 다른 왕들이 아기스에게 '이 히브리 사람들은 여기서 무엇을 하고 있는 겁니까?' 하고 물었다. 그래서 아기스가 그들에게 대답하였다. '이 사람은 이스라엘의 왕 사울의 신하 다윗이오. 그가 망명하여 나와 함께 여러 해를 있었지만 나는 그가 여기에 온 날부터 지금까지 그에게서 아무 허물도 찾지 못하였소.'

그러자 그들은 화를 내며 이렇게 말하였다. '이 사람들을 돌려보내시오! 이들은 전쟁터에 우리와 함께 갈 수 없소. 싸움 도중에 이들이 우리의 대적이 될지 누가 알겠소? 다윗이 자기 주인과 다시 화해하는 데 있어서 우리를 대적하여 죽이는 것만큼 더 좋은 기회가 어디 있겠소?

이 사람은 이스라엘 여인들이 춤추면서 '사울이 죽인 자는 수천 명이요 다윗이 죽인 자는 수만 명이라네' 하고 노래하던 바로 그 사람이오.'

Then Achish called David and said to him, "As the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army are pleasing in my sight; for I have not found evil in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, you are not pleasing in the sight of the lords.

"Now therefore return and go in peace, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines."

David said to Achish, "But what have I done? And what have you found in your servant from the day when I came before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"

But Achish replied to David, "I know that you are pleasing in my sight, like an angel of God; nevertheless the commanders of the Philistines have said, 'He must not go up with us to the battle.'

"Now then arise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you, and as soon as you have arisen early in the morning and have light, depart."

그래서 아기스는 다윗과 그의 부하들을 불러 놓고 말하였다. '내가 여호와의 이름으로 맹세하지만 정말 너는 성실하고 정직한 사람이었다. 나는 네가 나와 함께 전쟁터에 나가 주었으면 좋겠는데 다른 왕들이 너를 좋아하지 않으니 하는 수 없구나.

그러므로 너는 그들의 비위를 거스리지 말고 조용히 돌아가거라'

'내가 무엇을 하였기에 이런 대접을 받아야 합니까? 왕의 말씀대로 내가 왕을 섬기기 시작한 날부터 왕이 나의 흠을 찾지 못했다면 어째서 내가 왕과 함께 가서 왕의 원수들과 싸울 수 없습니까?'

'나에게는 네가 하나님의 천사와도 같았다. 그러나 다른 왕들이 너를 전쟁터에 데리고 가는 것을 못마땅하게 여기고 있다.

그러니 너는 내일 아침 일찍 일어나 너의 부하들과 함께 날이 밝는대로 곧 떠나거라'

So David arose early, he and his men, to depart in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

그래서 다윗은 하는 수 없이 블레셋 땅으로 돌아오고 블레셋군은 이스르엘로 올라갔다.

	아말렉을 멸한 다윗(30:1-30:31)

Then it happened when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid on the Negev and on Ziklag, and had overthrown Ziklag and burned it with fire;

and they took captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great, without killing anyone, and carried them off and went their way.

When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire, and their wives and their sons and their daughters had been taken captive.

Then David and the people who were with him lifted their voices and wept until there was no strength in them to weep.

Now David's two wives had been taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.

다윗과 그의 부하들이 이틀 후에 자기들이 사는 시글락으로 돌아왔을 때 그들은 아말렉 사람들이 자기들의 성을 습격하여 불사르고

거기에 남아 있던 여자들과 아이들을 모조리 끌어간 사실을 알게 되었다.

다윗과 그의 부하들은 잿더미로 변한 그들의 성을 보고 그들의 가족들에게 일어난 일을 생각하며

울 기력이 없을 때까지 큰 소리로 울었다.

다윗의 두 아내 아비노암과 아비가일도 포로로 잡혀갔다.

Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Please bring me the ephod." So Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I pursue this band? Shall I overtake them?" And He said to him, "Pursue, for you will surely overtake them, and you will surely rescue all."

So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those left behind remained.

But David pursued, he and four hundred men, for two hundred who were too exhausted to cross the brook Besor remained behind.

다윗은 입장이 대단히 난처하게 되었다. 왜냐하면 그의 부하들이 잃어버린 자식들 때문에 몹시 슬퍼하며 그를 돌로 쳐서 죽이려고 했기 때문이었다. 그러나 다윗은 그의 하나님 여호와를 의지하고 용기를 얻었다.

그때 다윗은 아비아달 제사장에게 '에봇을 가져오시오.' 하였다. 아비아달이 에봇을 다윗에게 가져오자

그는 여호와께 '내가 저 침략자들을 따라가서 잡을까요?' 하고 물었다. 그러자 여호와께서는 '좋다. 그들을 쫓아가거라. 네가 빼앗긴 모든 것을 도로 찾을 것이다.' 하고 말씀하셨다.

그래서 다윗과 그의 부하 600명은 아말렉군의 추격에 나섰다. 그들이 브솔 시내에 이르렀을 때 그들 중 200명은 너무 지쳐서 그 시내를 건너지 못하고 나머지 400명만 시내를 건너갔다.

Now they found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David, and gave him bread and he ate, and they provided him water to drink.

They gave him a piece of fig cake and two clusters of raisins, and he ate; then his spirit revived. For he had not eaten bread or drunk water for three days and three nights.

David said to him, "To whom do you belong? And where are you from?" And he said, "I am a young man of Egypt, a servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me behind when I fell sick three days ago.

"We made a raid on the Negev of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the Negev of Caleb, and we burned Ziklag with fire."

Then David said to him, "Will you bring me down to this band?" And he said, "Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this band."

다윗의 부하들은 추격을 계속하던 중 들에서 이집트 청년 하나를 만나 그를 다윗에게 데리고 왔다. 그는 3일 동안 물 한 모금 마시지 못하고 아무 것도 먹지 못한 채 기진 맥진해 있었다. 그래서 그들이 무화과 뭉치에서 뗀 덩이 하나와 건포도 두 송이와 물을 그에게 주자 그는 그것을 먹고 곧 힘을 얻어 정신을 차렸다.

이때 다윗이 그에게 물었다. '너는 누구며 어디서 왔느냐?' '나는 이집트 사람이며 아말렉 사람의 종입니다. 내가 병이 들자 주인은 3일 전에 나를 버려 두고 떠났습니다.

우리는 네겝에 있는 그렛 사람의 땅과 유다 남쪽 지방과 갈렙 사람의 땅을 침략하고 시글락을 불살랐습니다.'

'그러면 그들이 어디로 갔는지 나에게 말해 줄 수 있겠느냐?' '만일 당신이 나를 죽이거나 내 주인에게 넘겨 주지 않겠다고 하나님의 이름으로 맹세한다면 내가 당신을 그들에게 인도하겠습니다.'

When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread over all the land, eating and drinking and dancing because of all the great spoil that they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.

David slaughtered them from the twilight until the evening of the next day; and not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.

So David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and rescued his two wives.

But nothing of theirs was missing, whether small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that they had taken for themselves; David brought it all back.

So David had captured all the sheep and the cattle which the people drove ahead of the other livestock, and they said, "This is David's spoil."

그래서 그는 다윗과 그 부하들을 아말렉군이 있는 곳으로 인도하였다. 이때 아말렉군은 이곳 저곳 사방에 흩어져서 먹고 마시며 춤을 추고 있었는데 이것은 그들이 블레셋 사람과 유다 사람들에게서 약탈해 온 엄청난 전리품 때문이었다.

다윗과 그의 부하들은 그들을 기습하여 다음 날 저녁까지 계속 쳤으므로 낙타를 타고 도주한 400명의 청년들 외에는 살아 남은 자가 없었다.

다윗은 아말렉 사람들이 약탈해 간 것을 모두 되찾고 그의 두 아내도 찾았으며 그의 부하들도 잃었던 그들의 가족과 소유물을 도로 찾았다.

또 그들은 모든 양떼와 소떼를 약탈하여 몰고 오면서 '이것은 다윗의 약탈물이다!' 하고 외쳤다.

When David came to the two hundred men who were too exhausted to follow David, who had also been left at the brook Besor, and they went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him, then David approached the people and greeted them.

Then all the wicked and worthless men among those who went with David said, "Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away and depart."

Then David said, "You must not do so, my brothers, with what the LORD has given us, who has kept us and delivered into our hand the band that came against us.

"And who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays by the baggage; they shall share alike."

So it has been from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.

그들이 브솔 시내까지 왔을 때 지쳐서 그 곳에 남아 있던 200명의 병력이 다윗과 그의 부하들을 환영하러 나왔다. 그래서 다윗은 그들을 따뜻이 맞아 주었다.

그러나 참전한 다윗의 부하들 중에 악한 건달들이 '저들은 우리와 함께 가지 않았습니다. 그러므로 저들은 전리품을 하나도 가질 자격이 없습니다. 저들에게 아내와 자식들만 주어서 떠나게 하십시오.' 하였다.

그러나 다윗은 이렇게 대답하였다. '내 형제들아, 그건 안 된다. 여호와께서 우리를 안전하게 지키시고 우리를 도와 원수들을 쳐부수게 하셨다.

너희가 이런 말을 한다고 들어 줄 사람이 있겠느냐? 전쟁터에 직접 나가 싸운 사람이나 여기서 남아 우리의 소유물을 지킨 사람이나 다 같이 전리품을 나누어 가져야 한다.'

다윗은 이것을 하나의 법으로 정했으며 그때부터 이것은 이스라엘에서 계속 지켜졌다.

Now when David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, "Behold, a gift for you from the spoil of the enemies of the LORD:

to those who were in Bethel, and to those who were in Ramoth of the Negev, and to those who were in Jattir,

and to those who were in Aroer, and to those who were in Siphmoth, and to those who were in Eshtemoa,

and to those who were in Racal, and to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,

and to those who were in Hormah, and to those who were in Bor-ashan, and to those who were in Athach,

다윗은 시글락에 돌아와서 전리품의 일부를 유다 장로들에게 보냈는데 그는 '내가 여호와의 원수들에게서 뺏은 전리품을 여러분에게 선물로 드립니다.' 라는 말과 함께

그것을 다음 지역의 장로들에게 보냈다. 벧엘, 네겝의 라못, 얏딜, 아로엘, 십못, 에스드모아, 라갈, 여라므엘 사람의 성들과 겐 사람의 성들, 호르마, 볼-아산, 아닥, 헤브론, 그리고 다윗과 그의 부하들이 왕래하던 모든 곳이었다.

	사울의 죽음(31:1-31:13)

Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua the sons of Saul.

The battle went heavily against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was badly wounded by the archers.

Then Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword and pierce me through with it, otherwise these uncircumcised will come and pierce me through and make sport of me " But his armor bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid So Saul took his sword and fell on it.

When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died with him.

한편 블레셋 사람과 이스라엘 사람 사이에 전쟁이 있었다. 이 전투에서 이스라엘군은 블레셋 사람 앞에서 도망하다가 길보아산에서 수없이 죽어 쓰러졌다.

또 블레셋 사람들은 사울과 그의 아들들을 추격하여 사울의 아들 요나단과 아비나답과 말기-수아도 죽였다.

이처럼 사울의 주변에 싸움이 치열하자 그는 적군의 화살에 맞아 심한 부상을 입었다.

이때 사울은 자기 경호병에게 '너는 칼을 뽑아 저 블레셋 이방인들이 나를 잡아 괴롭히기 전에 어서 나를 죽여라.' 하고 명령하였다. 그러나 그 경호병이 두려워서 감히 그를 죽이지 못하자 사울은 자기 칼을 집어 칼 끝을 배에 대고 그 위에 엎드러졌다.

그러자 그 경호병은 왕이 죽은 것을 보고 자기도 칼을 배에 대고 엎드러져 그와 함께 죽었다.

Thus Saul died with his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men on that day together.

When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, with those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled; then the Philistines came and lived in them.

It came about on the next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

They cut off his head and stripped off his weapons, and sent them throughout the land of the Philistines, to carry the good news to the house of their idols and to the people.

They put his weapons in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.

이렇게 해서 사울과 그의 세 아들과 경호병과 그의 모든 부하들이 다같이 한날에 죽었다.

이스르엘 골짜기 저편과 요단강 건너편에 있는 이스라엘 사람들이 자기들의 군대가 도망한 사실과 사울과 그의 아들들이 전사했다는 말을 듣고 그들의 성을 버리고 도망하자 블레셋 사람들이 그 곳에 들어와서 살았다.

전투가 끝난 그 다음 날 블레셋 사람들은 죽은 자들의 소지품을 약탈하러 왔다가 길보아산에서 사울과 그의 세 아들의 시체를 발견하였다.

그래서 그들은 사울의 머리를 베고 그의 갑옷을 벗긴 다음 전국 각처에 사람을 보내 그 소식을 그들의 우상 신전과 백성들에게 전하도록 하였다.

그리고서 그들은 사울의 갑옷을 아스다롯 신전에 두고 그의 시체는 벧산 성벽에 못박았다.

Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,

all the valiant men rose and walked all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh and burned them there.

They took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

그때 길르앗의 야베스 사람들은 블레셋 사람들이 사울에게 행한 일을 듣게 되었다.

그래서 그들 중 가장 용감한 사람들이 밤새도록 벧산까지 가서 사울과 그 아들들의 시체를 성벽에서 내려 야베스로 가지고 돌아와 화장하였다.

그런 다음 그들은 그 유해들을 야베스에 있는 상수리나무 아래 묻고 7일 동안 금식하였다.
