- Listen, my son, and be wise, And direct your heart in the way.
- Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat;
- For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe one with rags.
- Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old.
- Buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction and understanding.

- 내 아들아, 너는 듣고 지혜를 얻어 네 마음을 바른 길로 인도하여라.
- 술을 많이 마시는 자와 고기를 탐하는 자를 사귀지 말아라.
- 술주정꾼과 대식가는 가난하게 되고 잠자기를 좋아하면 누더기를 걸치게 된다.
- 너를 낳아 준 아버지에게 순종하고 늙은 너의 어머니를 업신여기지 말아라.
- 진리를 사서 팔지 말아라. 지혜와 훈계와 총명도 마찬가지이다.

- The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who sires a wise son will be glad in him.
- Let your father and your mother be glad, And let her rejoice who gave birth to you.
- Give me your heart, my son, And let your eyes delight in my ways.

- 의로운 자식을 둔 부모는 크게 즐거울 것이며 지혜로운 자식을 둔 부모도 즐거울 것이다.
- 그러므로 너의 부모를 기쁘게 하고 즐겁게 하여라.
- 내 아들아, 네 마음을 나에게 주고 내 길을 지켜보아라.
