- Now behold, there came a man of God from Judah to Bethel by the word of the LORD, while Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.
- He cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, "O altar, altar, thus says the LORD, 'Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and human bones shall be burned on you.'"
- Then he gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign which the LORD has spoken, 'Behold, the altar shall be split apart and the ashes which are on it shall be poured out.'"
- Now when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, "Seize him." But his hand which he stretched out against him dried up, so that he could not draw it back to himself.
- The altar also was split apart and the ashes were poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

- 여로보암이 제단 곁에 서서 막 분향을 하려고 하는데, 바로 그 때에 하나님의 사람이 주님의 말씀을 전하려고 유다로부터 베델로 왔다.
- 그리고 그는 그 제단 쪽을 보고서, 주님께 받은 말씀을 외쳤다. "제단아, 제단아, 나 주가 말한다. 다윗의 가문에서 한 아들이 태어난다. 그 이름은 요시야다. 그가 너의 위에 분향하는 산당의 제사장들을 너의 위에서 죽여서 제물로 바칠 것이며, 또 그가 너의 위에서 그 제사장들의 뼈를 태울 것이다."
- 바로 그 때에 그는 한 가지 징표를 제시하며, 이렇게 말하였다. "이것은 나 주가 말한 징표다. 이 제단이 갈라지고, 그 위에 있는 재가 쏟아질 것이다."
- 여로보암 왕은, 하나님의 사람이 베델에 있는 제단 쪽에 대고 외치는 말을 듣고, 제단 위로 손을 내밀면서 "저 자를 잡아라" 하고 소리를 쳤다. 그러자 그 사람에게 내어 뻗은 여로보암의 손이 마비되어서, 다시 오므릴 수 없었다.
- 그리고 곧 이어서, 하나님의 사람이 주님의 말씀으로 제시한 징표대로, 그 제단은 갈라지고, 그 제단으로부터는 재가 쏟아져 내렸다.

- The king said to the man of God, "Please entreat the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me " So the man of God entreated the LORD, and the king's hand was restored to him, and it became as it was before.
- Then the king said to the man of God, "Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward."
- But the man of God said to the king, "If you were to give me half your house I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water in this place.
- "For so it was commanded me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'You shall eat no bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way which you came.'"
- So he went another way and did not return by the way which he came to Bethel.

- 그러자 왕은 하나님의 사람에게 "제발 그대의 주 하나님께 은총을 빌어서, 내 손이 회복되도록 기도하여 주시오" 하고 청하였다. 하나님의 사람이 주님께 은총을 비니, 왕의 손이 회복되어서, 예전과 같이 되었다.
- 이에 왕은 하나님의 사람에게 말하였다. "나와 함께 집으로 가서, 피곤을 풀도록 합시다. 그대에게 선물도 주고 싶소."
- 그러나 하나님의 사람은 왕에게 이렇게 말하였다. "비록 임금님께서 저에게 왕실 재산의 절반을 주신다고 하여도, 나는 임금님과 함께 갈 수 없습니다. 이 곳에서는 밥도 먹지 않겠으며, 물도 마시지 않겠습니다.
- 주님께서 나에게 명하시기를, 밥도 먹지 말고, 물도 마시지 말고, 온 길로 되돌아가지도 말라고 하셨습니다."
- 그런 다음에, 그는 베델에 올 때에 온 길로 돌아가지 않고, 다른 길로 돌아갔다.

- Now an old prophet was living in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the deeds which the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words which he had spoken to the king, these also they related to their father.
- Their father said to them, "Which way did he go?" Now his sons had seen the way which the man of God who came from Judah had gone.
- Then he said to his sons, "Saddle the donkey for me." So they saddled the donkey for him and he rode away on it.
- So he went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak; and he said to him, "Are you the man of God who came from Judah?" And he said, "I am."
- Then he said to him, "Come home with me and eat bread."

- 그 무렵에 늙은 예언자가 베델에 살고 있었다. 그의 아들들 가운데 하나가 와서, 그 날 베델에서 하나님의 사람이 한 일과, 그가 왕에게 말한 내용을, 모두 아버지에게 말하였다.
- 그러자 그들의 아버지가 그들에게 "그가 어느 길로 돌아갔느냐?" 하고 물었다. 그의 아들들은, 유다로부터 온 하나님의 사람이 돌아간 길을 말하였다.
- 그 말을 듣고서, 그들의 아버지는 곧 그의 아들들에게 말하였다. "내가 타고 갈 나귀에 안장을 얹어 다오." 그들이 아버지가 타고 갈 나귀에 안장을 얹으니, 그는 나귀를 타고서,
- 하나님의 사람을 뒤쫓아 갔다. 마침내, 그는 상수리나무 아래에 앉아 있는 하나님의 사람을 보고 물었다. "그대가 유다로부터 온 하나님의 사람이오?" 그러자 그가 대답하였다. "그렇습니다."
- 그는 하나님의 사람에게 말하였다. "함께 우리 집으로 가서, 무엇을 좀 잡수시고 가시지요."

- He said, "I cannot return with you, nor go with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place.
- "For a command came to me by the word of the LORD, 'You shall eat no bread, nor drink water there; do not return by going the way which you came.'"
- He said to him, "I also am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water '" But he lied to him.
- So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house and drank water.
- Now it came about, as they were sitting down at the table, that the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back;

- 하나님의 사람은 대답하였다. "나는 노인 어른과 함께 돌아가서 노인 어른의 집에 들어갈 수 없습니다. 또 이 곳에서는 누구와 함께 밥을 먹어도 안 되고, 물을 마셔도 안 됩니다.
- 주님께서 나에게 명하시기를, 여기에서는 밥도 먹지 말고, 물도 마시지 말고, 온 길로 되돌아가지도 말라고 하셨습니다."
- 그래서 그는 하나님의 사람에게 이렇게 말하였다. "나도 그대와 같은 예언자요. 주님께서 천사를 보내셔서, 나에게 말씀하시기를, 그대를 내 집으로 데리고 가서, 밥도 대접하고 마실 물도 대접하라고 하셨소." 그런데 그것은 거짓말이었다.
- 이렇게 해서, 하나님의 사람은 이 늙은 예언자와 함께 가서, 그의 집에서 밥을 먹고, 물도 마셨다.
- 그들이 이렇게 식탁에 함께 앉아 있는데, 주님의 말씀이 하나님의 사람을 데려온 그 예언자에게 내렸다.

- and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have disobeyed the command of the LORD, and have not observed the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you,
- but have returned and eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which He said to you, "Eat no bread and drink no water"; your body shall not come to the grave of your fathers.'"
- It came about after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for him, for the prophet whom he had brought back.
- Now when he had gone, a lion met him on the way and killed him, and his body was thrown on the road, with the donkey standing beside it; the lion also was standing beside the body.
- And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the road, and the lion standing beside the body; so they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.

- 그는 유다에서 온 그 하나님의 사람에게 이렇게 외쳤다. "주님께서 말씀하십니다. 당신은 주님의 말씀을 어기고, 당신의 주 하나님께서 당신에게 말씀하신 명령을 지키지 않았습니다.
- 당신은 주님께서 밥도 먹지 말고, 물도 마시지 말라고 말씀하신 곳에서, 밥도 먹고, 물도 마셨습니다. 그러므로 당신의 주검은 당신 조상의 무덤에 묻히지 못할 것입니다."
- 그 늙은 예언자는 하나님의 사람이 밥을 먹고 물을 마신 뒤에, 나귀 등에 안장을 얹어 주었다.
- 이에 그 사람이 길을 떠났다. 그는 길을 가다가 사자를 만났는데, 그 사자가 그를 물어 죽였다. 그리고 그 주검은 길가에 버려 두었으며, 나귀와 사자는 그 주검 옆에 서 있었다.
- 길을 지나가는 사람들은 길가에 버려 둔 주검과 그 주검 가까이에서 어슬렁거리는 사자를 보았다. 그들은, 그 늙은 예언자가 사는 성읍으로 돌아와서, 이 사실을 널리 알렸다.

- Now when the prophet who brought him back from the way heard it, he said, "It is the man of God, who disobeyed the command of the LORD; therefore the LORD has given him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke to him."
- Then he spoke to his sons, saying, "Saddle the donkey for me." And they saddled it.
- He went and found his body thrown on the road with the donkey and the lion standing beside the body; the lion had not eaten the body nor torn the donkey.
- So the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it on the donkey and brought it back, and he came to the city of the old prophet to mourn and to bury him.
- He laid his body in his own grave, and they mourned over him, saying, "Alas, my brother!"

- 길을 가는 하나님의 사람을 자기 집으로 데리고 간 그 늙은 예언자가, 이 말을 듣고 말하였다. "그는 틀림없이 주님의 말씀을 어긴 그 하나님의 사람일 것이다. 주님께서는 전에 그에게 말씀하신 대로, 그를 사자에게 내주셔서, 사자가 그를 찢어 죽이게 하신 것이다."
- 그리고 그는 또 자기의 아들들에게, 나귀에 안장을 지우라고 하였다. 그들이 나귀에 안장을 지워 놓으니,
- 그는 곧 가서, 길가에 있는 그 주검을 찾아 내었다. 나귀와 사자가 그 주검 가까이에 서 있었는데, 사자는 그 주검을 먹지 않았을 뿐만 아니라, 나귀도 물어 죽이지 않았다.
- 예언자는 하나님의 사람의 주검을 나귀 등에 싣고, 자기의 성읍으로 옮겨 와서, 곡을 한 뒤에 묻어 주었다.
- 그 주검을 자기의 무덤에 안장하고 나서, 그 늙은 예언자는 "아이고, 내 형제여!" 하면서 통곡을 하였다.

- After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying, "When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.
- "For the thing shall surely come to pass which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria."
- After this event Jeroboam did not return from his evil way, but again he made priests of the high places from among all the people; any who would, he ordained, to be priests of the high places.
- This event became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to blot it out and destroy it from off the face of the earth.

- 장사를 마친 뒤에, 그는 자기 아들들에게 말하였다. "내가 죽거든, 너희는 나를, 이 하나님의 사람이 묻힌 곳에 같이 묻어 다오. 나의 뼈를 그의 뼈 옆에 두어라.

- 이런 일이 생긴 뒤에도, 여로보암은 여전히 그 악한 길에서 돌아서지 아니하고, 오히려 일반 백성 가운데서, 원하는 사람은 누구든지 산당의 제사장으로 임명하였다.
- 그런 일 때문에 여로보암 가문은 죄를 얻었으며, 마침내 땅에서 흔적도 없이 사라졌다.
