- Therefore when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John
- (although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were),
- He left Judea and went away again into Galilee.
- And He had to pass through Samaria.
- So He came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph;

- さて， イエス が ヨハネ よりも 多くの 弟子をつくり， 洗禮を 授けておられるということが， ファリサイ 派の 人¿の 耳に 入った． イエス はそれを 知ると，
- ――洗禮を 授けていたのは， イエス 御自身ではなく， 弟子たちである ――
- ユダヤ を 去り， 再び ガリラヤ へ 行かれた．
- しかし， サマリア を 通らねばならなかった．
- それで， ヤコブ がその 子 ヨセフ に 與えた 土地の 近くにある， シカル という サマリア の 町に 來られた．

- and Jacob's well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
- There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink."
- For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
- Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
- Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."

- そこには ヤコブ の 井戶があった． イエス は 旅に 疲れて， そのまま 井戶のそばに 座っておられた． 正午ごろのことである．
- サマリア の 女が 水をくみに 來た． イエス は， 「水を 飮ませてください 」と 言われた．
- 弟子たちは 食べ 物を 買うために 町に 行っていた．
- すると， サマリア の 女は， 「ユダヤ 人のあなたが サマリア の 女のわたしに， どうして 水を 飮ませてほしいと 賴むのですか 」と 言った． ユダヤ 人は サマリア 人とは 交際しないからである．
- イエス は 答えて 言われた． 「もしあなたが， 神の 賜物を 知っており， また， 『水を 飮ませてください 』と 言ったのがだれであるか 知っていたならば， あなたの 方からその 人に 賴み， その 人はあなたに 生きた 水を 與えたことであろう． 」

- She said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water?
- "You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?"
- Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;
- but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."
- The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw."

- 女は 言った． 「主よ， あなたはくむ 物をお 持ちでないし， 井戶は 深いのです． どこからその 生きた 水を 手にお 入れになるのですか．
- あなたは， わたしたちの 父 ヤコブ よりも 偉いのですか． ヤコブ がこの 井戶をわたしたちに 與え， 彼自身も， その 子供や 家畜も， この 井戶から 水を 飮んだのです． 」
- イエス は 答えて 言われた． 「この 水を 飮む 者はだれでもまた 渴く．
- しかし， わたしが 與える 水を 飮む 者は 決して 渴かない． わたしが 與える 水はその 人の 內で 泉となり， 永遠の 命に 至る 水がわき 出る． 」
- 女は 言った． 「主よ， 渴くことがないように， また， ここにくみに 來なくてもいいように， その 水をください． 」

- He said to her, "Go, call your husband and come here."
- The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You have correctly said, 'I have no husband';
- for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly."
- The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
- "Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship."

- イエス が， 「行って， あなたの 夫をここに 呼んで 來なさい 」と 言われると，
- 女は 答えて， 「わたしには 夫はいません 」と 言った． イエス は 言われた． 「『夫はいません 』とは， まさにそのとおりだ．
- あなたには 五人の 夫がいたが， 今連れ 添っているのは 夫ではない． あなたは， ありのままを 言ったわけだ． 」
- 女は 言った． 「主よ， あなたは 預言者だとお 見受けします．
- わたしどもの 先祖はこの 山で 禮拜しましたが， あなたがたは， 禮拜すべき 場所は エルサレム にあると 言っています． 」

- Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
- "You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
- "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
- "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
- The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us."

- イエス は 言われた． 「婦人よ， わたしを 信じなさい． あなたがたが， この 山でも エルサレム でもない 所で， 父を 禮拜する 時が 來る．
- あなたがたは 知らないものを 禮拜しているが， わたしたちは 知っているものを 禮拜している． 救いは ユダヤ 人から 來るからだ．
- しかし， まことの 禮拜をする 者たちが， 靈と 眞理をもって 父を 禮拜する 時が 來る． 今がその 時である． なぜなら， 父はこのように 禮拜する 者を 求めておられるからだ．
- 神は 靈である． だから， 神を 禮拜する 者は， 靈と 眞理をもって 禮拜しなければならない． 」
- 女が 言った． 「わたしは， キリスト と 呼ばれる メシア が 來られることは 知っています． その 方が 來られるとき， わたしたちに 一切のことを 知らせてくださいます． 」

- Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."

- イエス は 言われた． 「それは， あなたと 話をしているこのわたしである． 」
