  1. Then the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to the wilderness of Zin in the first month; and the people stayed at Kadesh. Now Miriam died there and was buried there.
  2. There was no water for the congregation, and they assembled themselves against Moses and Aaron.
  3. The people thus contended with Moses and spoke, saying, "If only we had perished when our brothers perished before the LORD!
  4. "Why then have you brought the LORD'S assembly into this wilderness, for us and our beasts to die here?
  5. "Why have you made us come up from Egypt, to bring us in to this wretched place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates, nor is there water to drink."
  1. Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
  2. And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
  3. And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!
  4. And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
  5. And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
  1. Then Moses and Aaron came in from the presence of the assembly to the doorway of the tent of meeting and fell on their faces. Then the glory of the LORD appeared to them;
  2. and the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
  3. "Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it may yield its water. You shall thus bring forth water for them out of the rock and let the congregation and their beasts drink."
  4. So Moses took the rod from before the LORD, just as He had commanded him;
  5. and Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock. And he said to them, "Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?"
  1. And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
  2. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
  3. Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
  4. And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
  5. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
  1. Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank.
  2. But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."
  3. Those were the waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel contended with the LORD, and He proved Himself holy among them.
  4. From Kadesh Moses then sent messengers to the king of Edom: "Thus your brother Israel has said, 'You know all the hardship that has befallen us;
  5. that our fathers went down to Egypt, and we stayed in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians treated us and our fathers badly.
  1. And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
  2. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
  3. This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.
  4. And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
  5. How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
  1. 'But when we cried out to the LORD, He heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us out from Egypt; now behold, we are at Kadesh, a town on the edge of your territory.
  2. 'Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard; we will not even drink water from a well. We will go along the king's highway, not turning to the right or left, until we pass through your territory.'"
  3. Edom, however, said to him, "You shall not pass through us, or I will come out with the sword against you."
  4. Again, the sons of Israel said to him, "We will go up by the highway, and if I and my livestock do drink any of your water, then I will pay its price. Let me only pass through on my feet, nothing else."
  5. But he said, "You shall not pass through." And Edom came out against him with a heavy force and with a strong hand.
  1. And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:
  2. Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
  3. And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.
  4. And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.
  5. And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
  1. Thus Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.
  2. Now when they set out from Kadesh, the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.
  3. Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor by the border of the land of Edom, saying,
  4. "Aaron will be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because you rebelled against My command at the waters of Meribah.
  5. "Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up to Mount Hor;
  1. Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
  2. And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
  3. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,
  4. Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
  5. Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:
  1. and strip Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar. So Aaron will be gathered to his people, and will die there."
  2. So Moses did just as the LORD had commanded, and they went up to Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
  3. After Moses had stripped Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar, Aaron died there on the mountain top. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
  4. When all the congregation saw that Aaron had died, all the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirty days.
  1. And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
  2. And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
  3. And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.
  4. And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

  1. When the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, then he fought against Israel and took some of them captive.
  2. So Israel made a vow to the LORD and said, "If You will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities."
  3. The LORD heard the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites; then they utterly destroyed them and their cities. Thus the name of the place was called Hormah.
  4. Then they set out from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the people became impatient because of the journey.
  5. The people spoke against God and Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this miserable food."
  1. And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
  2. And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
  3. And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
  4. And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
  5. And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
  1. The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.
  2. So the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from us." And Moses interceded for the people.
  3. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live."
  4. And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.
  5. Now the sons of Israel moved out and camped in Oboth.
  1. And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
  2. Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
  3. And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
  4. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
  5. And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
  1. They journeyed from Oboth and camped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is opposite Moab, to the east.
  2. From there they set out and camped in Wadi Zered.
  3. From there they journeyed and camped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the border of the Amorites, for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
  4. Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD, "Waheb in Suphah, And the wadis of the Arnon,
  5. And the slope of the wadis That extends to the site of Ar, And leans to the border of Moab."
  1. And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ijeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
  2. From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
  3. From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
  4. Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
  5. And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.
  1. From there they continued to Beer, that is the well where the LORD said to Moses, "Assemble the people, that I may give them water."
  2. Then Israel sang this song: "Spring up, O well! Sing to it!
  3. "The well, which the leaders sank, Which the nobles of the people dug, With the scepter and with their staffs." And from the wilderness they continued to Mattanah,
  4. and from Mattanah to Nahaliel, and from Nahaliel to Bamoth,
  5. and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the land of Moab, at the top of Pisgah which overlooks the wasteland.
  1. And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
  2. Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
  3. The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
  4. And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
  5. And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
  1. Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites, saying,
  2. "Let me pass through your land. We will not turn off into field or vineyard; we will not drink water from wells. We will go by the king's highway until we have passed through your border."
  3. But Sihon would not permit Israel to pass through his border So Sihon gathered all his people and went out against Israel in the wilderness, and came to Jahaz and fought against Israel.
  4. Then Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the sons of Ammon; for the border of the sons of Ammon was Jazer.
  5. Israel took all these cities and Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all her villages.
  1. And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
  2. Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's high way, until we be past thy borders.
  3. And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
  4. And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
  5. And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
  1. For Heshbon was the city of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken all his land out of his hand, as far as the Arnon.
  2. Therefore those who use proverbs say, "Come to Heshbon! Let it be built! So let the city of Sihon be established.
  3. "For a fire went forth from Heshbon, A flame from the town of Sihon; It devoured Ar of Moab, The dominant heights of the Arnon.
  4. "Woe to you, O Moab! You are ruined, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives, And his daughters into captivity, To an Amorite king, Sihon.
  5. "But we have cast them down, Heshbon is ruined as far as Dibon, Then we have laid waste even to Nophah, Which reaches to Medeba."
  1. For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
  2. Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
  3. For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
  4. Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
  5. We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
  1. Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.
  2. Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they captured its villages and dispossessed the Amorites who were there.
  3. Then they turned and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan went out with all his people, for battle at Edrei.
  4. But the LORD said to Moses, "Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon."
  5. So they killed him and his sons and all his people, until there was no remnant left him; and they possessed his land.
  1. Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
  2. And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
  3. And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
  4. And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
  5. So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
