  1. Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, when he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, for Hiram had always been a friend of David.
  2. Then Solomon sent word to Hiram, saying,
  3. "You know that David my father was unable to build a house for the name of the LORD his God because of the wars which surrounded him, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
  4. "But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor misfortune.
  5. "Behold, I intend to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke to David my father, saying, 'Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he will build the house for My name.'
  1. And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
  2. And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
  3. Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
  4. But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.
  5. And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
  1. "Now therefore, command that they cut for me cedars from Lebanon, and my servants will be with your servants; and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you say, for you know that there is no one among us who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians."
  2. When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly and said, "Blessed be the LORD today, who has given to David a wise son over this great people."
  3. So Hiram sent word to Solomon, saying, "I have heard the message which you have sent me; I will do what you desire concerning the cedar and cypress timber.
  4. "My servants will bring them down from Lebanon to the sea; and I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place where you direct me, and I will have them broken up there, and you shall carry them away Then you shall accomplish my desire by giving food to my household."
  5. So Hiram gave Solomon as much as he desired of the cedar and cypress timber.
  1. Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
  2. And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.
  3. And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
  4. My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
  5. So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.
  1. Solomon then gave Hiram 20,000 kors of wheat as food for his household, and twenty kors of beaten oil; thus Solomon would give Hiram year by year.
  2. The LORD gave wisdom to Solomon, just as He promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a covenant.
  3. Now King Solomon levied forced laborers from all Israel; and the forced laborers numbered 30,000 men.
  4. He sent them to Lebanon, 10,000 a month in relays; they were in Lebanon a month and two months at home. And Adoniram was over the forced laborers.
  5. Now Solomon had 70,000 transporters, and 80,000 hewers of stone in the mountains,
  1. And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
  2. And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
  3. And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
  4. And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.
  5. And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
  1. besides Solomon's 3,300 chief deputies who were over the project and who ruled over the people who were doing the work.
  2. Then the king commanded, and they quarried great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with cut stones.
  3. So Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Gebalites cut them, and prepared the timbers and the stones to build the house.
  1. Beside the chief of Solomon's officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
  2. And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
  3. And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

  1. Now it came about in the four hundred and eightieth year after the sons of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
  2. As for the house which King Solomon built for the LORD, its length was sixty cubits and its width twenty cubits and its height thirty cubits.
  3. The porch in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits in length, corresponding to the width of the house, and its depth along the front of the house was ten cubits.
  4. Also for the house he made windows with artistic frames.
  5. Against the wall of the house he built stories encompassing the walls of the house around both the nave and the inner sanctuary; thus he made side chambers all around.
  1. And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
  2. And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.
  3. And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.
  4. And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.
  5. And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:
  1. The lowest story was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for on the outside he made offsets in the wall of the house all around in order that the beams would not be inserted in the walls of the house.
  2. The house, while it was being built, was built of stone prepared at the quarry, and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any iron tool heard in the house while it was being built.
  3. The doorway for the lowest side chamber was on the right side of the house; and they would go up by winding stairs to the middle story, and from the middle to the third.
  4. So he built the house and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.
  5. He also built the stories against the whole house, each five cubits high; and they were fastened to the house with timbers of cedar.
  1. The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.
  2. And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.
  3. The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.
  4. So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar.
  5. And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.
  1. Now the word of the LORD came to Solomon saying,
  2. "Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in My statutes and execute My ordinances and keep all My commandments by walking in them, then I will carry out My word with you which I spoke to David your father.
  3. "I will dwell among the sons of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel."
  4. So Solomon built the house and finished it.
  5. Then he built the walls of the house on the inside with boards of cedar; from the floor of the house to the ceiling he overlaid the walls on the inside with wood, and he overlaid the floor of the house with boards of cypress.
  1. And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,
  2. Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
  3. And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.
  4. So Solomon built the house, and finished it.
  5. And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the ceiling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.
  1. He built twenty cubits on the rear part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the ceiling; he built them for it on the inside as an inner sanctuary, even as the most holy place.
  2. The house, that is, the nave in front of the inner sanctuary, was forty cubits long.
  3. There was cedar on the house within, carved in the shape of gourds and open flowers; all was cedar, there was no stone seen.
  4. Then he prepared an inner sanctuary within the house in order to place there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
  5. The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in height, and he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid the altar with cedar.
  1. And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place.
  2. And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.
  3. And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.
  4. And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
  5. And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.
  1. So Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold. And he drew chains of gold across the front of the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid it with gold.
  2. He overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. Also the whole altar which was by the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold.
  3. Also in the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.
  4. Five cubits was the one wing of the cherub and five cubits the other wing of the cherub; from the end of one wing to the end of the other wing were ten cubits.
  5. The other cherub was ten cubits; both the cherubim were of the same measure and the same form.
  1. So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.
  2. And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.
  3. And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.
  4. And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.
  5. And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.
  1. The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub.
  2. He placed the cherubim in the midst of the inner house, and the wings of the cherubim were spread out, so that the wing of the one was touching the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub was touching the other wall. So their wings were touching each other in the center of the house.
  3. He also overlaid the cherubim with gold.
  4. Then he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved engravings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, inner and outer sanctuaries.
  5. He overlaid the floor of the house with gold, inner and outer sanctuaries.
  1. The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.
  2. And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.
  3. And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.
  4. And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.
  5. And the floors of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.
  1. For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood, the lintel and five-sided doorposts.
  2. So he made two doors of olive wood, and he carved on them carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread the gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.
  3. So also he made for the entrance of the nave four-sided doorposts of olive wood
  4. and two doors of cypress wood; the two leaves of the one door turned on pivots, and the two leaves of the other door turned on pivots.
  5. He carved on it cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold evenly applied on the engraved work.
  1. And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall.
  2. The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.
  3. So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall.
  4. And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.
  5. And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.
  1. He built the inner court with three rows of cut stone and a row of cedar beams.
  2. In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid, in the month of Ziv.
  3. In the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts and according to all its plans. So he was seven years in building it.
  1. And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams.
  2. In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif:
  3. And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.
