- For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
- For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it.
- For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives.
- Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood.
- For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,

- 그러므로 그리스도는 새로운 계약의 중재자이십니다. 그분은 사람들이 먼젓번 계약 아래서 저지른 죄를 용서받게 하시려고 죽으셨습니다. 따라서 부르심을 받은 사람들이 하느님께서 약속해 주신 영원한 유산을 이어받게 되었습니다.
- 상속에 관한 유언이 효력을 내려면 그 유언을 한 사람의 죽음이 확인되어야 합니다.
- 유언이라는 것은 유언을 한 사람이 죽어야 효력이 있는 것이지 그가 살아 있는 동안에는 아무 효력이 없습니다.
- 그래서 사실은 먼젓번 계약도 피를 가지고 맺었던 것입니다.
- 모세는 율법에 있는 모든 계명을 온 백성에게 선포할 때에 송아지 피와 물을 가져다가 박하 묶음과 붉은 양털로 계약의 책과 온 백성에게 뿌렸습니다.

- saying, "THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT WHICH GOD COMMANDED YOU."
- And in the same way he sprinkled both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood.
- And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
- Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
- For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;

- 그리고는 "이것은 하느님께서 여러분과 맺으신 계약의 피입니다." 하고 말했습니다.
- 또 같은 모양으로 그는 천막 성전과 예배의식에 쓰이는 모든 기구에도 피를 뿌렸습니다.
- 율법에 따르면 피로써 깨끗해지지 않는 것이 거의 없습니다. 그리고 피 흘리는 일이 없이는 죄를 용서받지 못합니다.
- 하늘에 있는 것들을 본떠 만든 것들은 이런 의식으로 정결하게 만들 필요가 있었습니다. 그러나 하늘에 있는 것들은 그보다도 더 나은 제물로 정결하게 만들어야 합니다.
- 그리스도께서는 인간이 하늘의 참 성소를 본떠서 만든 지상의 성소에 들어가신 것이 아니라 우리를 위해서 하느님 앞에 나타나시려고 바로 그 하늘의 성소로 들어가신 것입니다.

- nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own.
- Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
- And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,
- so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.

- 대사제는 해마다 다른 짐승의 피를 가지고 성소에 들어가야 하지만 그리스도께서는 그렇게 번번이 당신 자신을 바치실 필요가 없었습니다.
- 그분이 몸을 여러 번 바쳐야 한다면 그분은 천지 창조 이후 여러 번 고난을 받으셨어야 했을 것입니다. 그러나 지금 그분은 이 역사의 절정에 나타나셔서 단 한 번 당신 자신을 희생제물로 드리심으로써 죄를 없이 하셨습니다.
- 사람은 단 한 번 죽게 마련이고 그 뒤에는 심판을 받게 됩니다.
- 그리스도께서도 단 한 번 당신 자신을 제물로 바치셨습니다. 그러나 많은 사람의 죄를 없애주셨고 다시 나타나실 때에는 인간의 죄 때문에 다시 희생제물이 되시는 일이 없이 당신을 갈망하고 있는 사람들에게 구원을 가져다 주실 것입니다.
