사사기 19:1-20:16

 에브라임 산지에 살던 한 레위인이 자신의 첩이 베냐민 지파의 비류들에게 윤간당하고 죽자 그 시체를 토막 내어 이스라엘 각처로 보냈다. 이 사건을 논의하기 위해 모인 이스라엘 총회는 베냐민 지파에게 비류들을 처벌하여 악을 제거할 것을 요구했으나 베냐민은 이를 거절했다.
  
  레위인의 첩 사건(19:1-19:30)    
 
  1. In those days Israel had no king. Now a Levite who lived in a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim took a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah.
  2. But she was unfaithful to him. She left him and went back to her father's house in Bethlehem, Judah. After she had been there four months,
  3. her husband went to her to persuade her to return. He had with him his servant and two donkeys. She took him into her father's house, and when her father saw him, he gladly welcomed him.
  4. His father-in-law, the girl's father, prevailed upon him to stay; so he remained with him three days, eating and drinking, and sleeping there.
  5. On the fourth day they got up early and he prepared to leave, but the girl's father said to his son-in-law, "Refresh yourself with something to eat; then you can go."
  1. 이스라엘에 아직 왕이 없던 때에, 레위인 한 사람이 있었는데 그는 에브라임 산 깊숙이 들어가 몸붙여 살고 있었다. 그에게는 유다 베들레헴에서 데려온 첩이 하나 있었다.
  2. 그 첩은 화나는 일이 있어서 그를 버리고 베들레헴 성내에 있는 친정으로 돌아가 거기에서 넉 달 가량 머물러 있었다.
  3. 남편은 그를 찾아가 달래어 데려오려고 종을 데리고 나귀 두 마리를 끌어내어 길을 나섰다. 그가 처가에 이르자 장인이 보고 기꺼이 마중하였다.
  4. 그는 장인의 강권에 못 이겨 사흘을 머물며 같이 먹고 마시며 묵었다.
  5. 나흘째 되는 날 그 레위인이 일찍 일어나 떠나려고 하자 장인이 사위에게 권하였다. "요기를 좀 하고 나서 천천히 떠나도 좋지 않은가?"
  1. So the two of them sat down to eat and drink together. Afterward the girl's father said, "Please stay tonight and enjoy yourself."
  2. And when the man got up to go, his father-in-law persuaded him, so he stayed there that night.
  3. On the morning of the fifth day, when he rose to go, the girl's father said, "Refresh yourself. Wait till afternoon!" So the two of them ate together.
  4. Then when the man, with his concubine and his servant, got up to leave, his father-in-law, the girl's father, said, "Now look, it's almost evening. Spend the night here; the day is nearly over. Stay and enjoy yourself. Early tomorrow morning you can get up and be on your way home."
  5. But, unwilling to stay another night, the man left and went toward Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), with his two saddled donkeys and his concubine.
  1. 그래서 둘이 같이 앉아 먹고 마시는데 장인이 사위에게 권하는 것이었다. "하룻밤 더 묵으면서 놀다 가게."
  2. 그래도 일어나 떠나려고 하는데, 장인은 다시 권하였다. 그래서 그는 하룻밤을 더 묵었다.
  3. 닷새째 되는 날 아침에 일어나 떠나려 했지만 장인은 우선 요기나 하자고 권하였다. 둘이 앉아서 먹고 마시기 시작한 것이 어느덧 날이 기울게 되었다.
  4. 그제야 그 사람이 첩과 종을 데리고 떠나려고 하자 장인이 다시 권하였다. "여보게, 오늘은 이미 날이 저물어 저녁이 되었는데 하룻밤 더 묵어가게. 이렇게 날이 저물었는데 즐겁게 놀다가 내일 아침 일찍이 일어나 길을 떠나는 게 어떤가?"
  5. 그러나 그 사람은 그 날 밤 그 곳에 묵을 생각이 없어 길을 떠났다. 얼마 가다가 여부스인이 사는 예루살렘이 마주 보이는 곳에 이르렀다. 그는 나귀 두 마리에 안장을 얹어가지고 첩과 종을 데리고 가는 길이었다.
  1. When they were near Jebus and the day was almost gone, the servant said to his master, "Come, let's stop at this city of the Jebusites and spend the night."
  2. His master replied, "No. We won't go into an alien city, whose people are not Israelites. We will go on to Gibeah."
  3. He added, "Come, let's try to reach Gibeah or Ramah and spend the night in one of those places."
  4. So they went on, and the sun set as they neared Gibeah in Benjamin.
  5. There they stopped to spend the night. They went and sat in the city square, but no one took them into his home for the night.
  1. 여부스인들 사는 곳에 이르렀을 때는 이미 날이 많이 기울어 있었다. 그래서 종이 주인에게 아뢰었다. "이제 그만 이 여부스인의 성에 들러서 묵어가십시다."
  2. 주인이 대답하였다. "이스라엘 백성과는 피가 다른 민족이 사는 성인데, 들를 수 없다. 기브아까지는 가야지.
  3. 기브아든지 라마든지 어느 한 곳에 가서 묵자."
  4. 그들은 그 곳을 지나쳐 가다가 베냐민 지파에 속한 기브아 가까이 이르렀는데, 해는 이미 져 있었다.
  5. 하는 수 없이 그들은 기브아에서 밤을 보내려고 성에 들어가 장터에 앉아 있는데 누구 하나 집에 들어와 묵으라고 맞아들이는 사람이 없었다.
  1. That evening an old man from the hill country of Ephraim, who was living in Gibeah (the men of the place were Benjamites), came in from his work in the fields.
  2. When he looked and saw the traveler in the city square, the old man asked, "Where are you going? Where did you come from?"
  3. He answered, "We are on our way from Bethlehem in Judah to a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim where I live. I have been to Bethlehem in Judah and now I am going to the house of the LORD. No one has taken me into his house.
  4. We have both straw and fodder for our donkeys and bread and wine for ourselves your servants--me, your maidservant, and the young man with us. We don't need anything."
  5. "You are welcome at my house," the old man said. "Let me supply whatever you need. Only don't spend the night in the square."
  1. 그러는데 한 노인이 저녁이 되어 밭일을 마치고 돌아오고 있었다. 그는 에브라임 산악 지대 출신으로 기브아에 몸붙여 사는 사람이었다. 그 곳 주민은 베냐민 사람들이었다.
  2. 노인은 성읍 광장에 웬 나그네가 앉아 있는 것을 보고 물었다. "어디서 오며 어디로 가는 사람이오?"
  3. 그가 대답하였다. "우리는 유다 베들레헴에서 에브라임의 두메 산골로 가는 길입니다. 나는 유다 베들레헴으로 갔다가 이제 집으로 돌아가는 참인데 아무도 자기 집에 맞아들이는 사람이 없군요.
  4. 우리에겐 나귀가 먹을 겨와 여물이 있습니다. 나와 같이 가는 이 마누라와 종이 먹을 양식도 넉넉하게 있습니다."
  5. 노인이 그에게 말하였다. "잘 오셨소. 무엇이든지 아쉬운 것이 있으면 내가 돌봐 드리리다. 이런 장터에서야 밤을 지낼 수 없지 않소?"
  1. So he took him into his house and fed his donkeys. After they had washed their feet, they had something to eat and drink.
  2. While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, "Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him."
  3. The owner of the house went outside and said to them, "No, my friends, don't be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don't do this disgraceful thing.
  4. Look, here is my virgin daughter, and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But to this man, don't do such a disgraceful thing."
  5. But the men would not listen to him. So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go.
  1. 그리하여 노인은 그를 자기 집으로 맞아들이고는 곧 나귀에게 여물을 주고 나그네 일행에게는 발 씻을 물과 음식을 대접하였다.
  2. 그들이 한참 맛있게 먹고 있는데 그 성에 있는 무뢰배들이 몰려와서 집을 에워싸고 문을 두드리며 노인에게 요구하였다. "영감 집에 든 자를 내보내시오. 좀 따질 일이 있으니까!"
  3. 그러자 노인이 밖으로 나가 그들에게 말했다. "이 사람들, 그게 어디 될 말인가! 이런 나쁜 짓을 하다니! 이분은 이미 내 집에 들어왔는데, 이런 고약한 짓을 하지 말게나.
  4. 나에게 처녀 딸 하나가 있는데 내어줄 터이니 욕을 보이든 말든 좋을 대로들 하게. 그러나 이 사람에게만은 그런 고약한 짓을 해서는 안 되네."
  5. 그들이 이 말을 들으려고 하지 않는 것을 보고 레위인은 자기 첩을 밖에 있는 자들에게 넘겨주었다. 그들은 잔인하게도 그 여자를 밤새도록 욕보였다. 그러다가 동이 틀 때가 되어서야 그 여자를 놓아 보냈다.
  1. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight.
  2. When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold.
  3. He said to her, "Get up; let's go." But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.
  4. When he reached home, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel.
  5. Everyone who saw it said, "Such a thing has never been seen or done, not since the day the Israelites came up out of Egypt. Think about it! Consider it! Tell us what to do!"
  1. 날이 밝자 그 여인은 남편이 있는 집으로 돌아와 환히 밝기까지 문지방에 쓰러져 있었다.
  2. 남편은 아침에 일어나 대문을 열고 다시 길을 떠나려고 나서다가 제 첩이 손으로 문지방을 붙잡은 채 문에 쓰러져 있는 것을 보았다.
  3. 일어나 가자고 하였으나 대답이 없었다. 그는 첩을 나귀에 얹어가지고 자기 고장을 향해 길을 떠났다.
  4. 그는 집에 도착하는 길로 칼을 뽑아 자기 첩의 시체를 열두 조각으로 내가지고는 이스라엘 전국에 보냈다.
  5. 그는 사람들을 보내면서 온 이스라엘 사람들에게 이렇게 말하라고 일러주었다. "이스라엘 백성이 이집트 땅에서 나온 날부터 바로 이 날까지 이런 일이 일찍이 있었습니까? 이 사건을 신중히 심의하여 어떤 결정을 내리실지 그 의견을 말해 주시기 바랍니다." 그것을 보는 사람마다 외쳤다. "이렇게 끔찍한 일은 이스라엘 백성이 이집트에서 나온 날부터 이 날까지 일찍이 없었고 또 본 적도 없는 일이다."
 
  이스라엘의 결의(20:1-20:16)    
 
  1. Then all the Israelites from Dan to Beersheba and from the land of Gilead came out as one man and assembled before the LORD in Mizpah.
  2. The leaders of all the people of the tribes of Israel took their places in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand soldiers armed with swords.
  3. (The Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) Then the Israelites said, "Tell us how this awful thing happened."
  4. So the Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, said, "I and my concubine came to Gibeah in Benjamin to spend the night.
  5. During the night the men of Gibeah came after me and surrounded the house, intending to kill me. They raped my concubine, and she died.
  1. 그리하여 단으로부터 브엘세바에 이르는 지방과, 길르앗 지방에서 온 이스라엘 백성이 떨쳐 나왔다. 전체 회중은 미스바에 올라가 야훼 앞에 일제히 모였다.
  2. 이스라엘 전군의 지휘관들은 이스라엘 각 지파를 거느리고 하느님의 군대를 이루어가지고 나섰다. 이렇게 칼을 차고 나선 보병이 사십 만이나 되었다.
  3. 베냐민 사람들은 이스라엘 백성이 미스바에 올라가 모였다는 소식을 들었다. 그 때 이스라엘 백성들은 그런 나쁜 일이 어떻게 일어났는지 말하라고 하였다.
  4. 살해된 여인의 남편인 그 레위인이 대답하였다. "나는 첩을 데리고 베냐민 지파에 속한 기브아에 간 일이 있습니다. 거기에서 하룻밤 묵으려고 했는데
  5. 기브아의 어른이라는 것들이 일어나 내가 묵고 있던 집을 에워싸고 나를 죽이려 하였습니다. 그랬다가 내 첩을 욕보여 죽게 했던 것입니다.
  1. I took my concubine, cut her into pieces and sent one piece to each region of Israel's inheritance, because they committed this lewd and disgraceful act in Israel.
  2. Now, all you Israelites, speak up and give your verdict."
  3. All the people rose as one man, saying, "None of us will go home. No, not one of us will return to his house.
  4. But now this is what we'll do to Gibeah: We'll go up against it as the lot directs.
  5. We'll take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred from a thousand, and a thousand from ten thousand, to get provisions for the army. Then, when the army arrives at Gibeah in Benjamin, it can give them what they deserve for all this vileness done in Israel."
  1. 나는 내 첩의 시체를 가져다가 토막을 내어 우리가 상속받은 이스라엘의 전 지역에 보냈습니다. 그들이 이스라엘에서 얼마나 더럽고 얼마나 고약한 짓을 했는지 알리려는 것이었습니다.
  2. 이스라엘 겨레여, 여러분이 이렇게 다 모이셨으니 이 사건을 어떻게 처리할지 지금 당장 결정을 내려주시기 바랍니다."
  3. 전군이 일제히 일어나 외쳤다. "우리는 아무도 자기 천막에 돌아가지 못한다. 아무도 자기 집으로 돌아가지 못한다.
  4. 이제 기브아 놈들에게 이렇게 하자. 제비를 뽑는데
  5. 이스라엘 각 지파에서 백 명마다 열 사람을 뽑고 천 명마다 백 명을, 만 명마다 천 명을 뽑아 군량미를 모으자. 베냐민 지파에 속한 기브아 놈들이 이스라엘에서 저지른 이 고약한 일을 보복하러 올라갈 사람들의 양식을 모으자."
  1. So all the men of Israel got together and united as one man against the city.
  2. The tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, "What about this awful crime that was committed among you?
  3. Now surrender those wicked men of Gibeah so that we may put them to death and purge the evil from Israel." But the Benjamites would not listen to their fellow Israelites.
  4. From their towns they came together at Gibeah to fight against the Israelites.
  5. At once the Benjamites mobilized twenty-six thousand swordsmen from their towns, in addition to seven hundred chosen men from those living in Gibeah.
  1. 그리하여 이스라엘 사람은 모두 뜻을 모아 그 성을 치려고 모였다.
  2. 그리고 나서 이스라엘 지파들은 베냐민 온 지파에 전갈을 보내었다. "너희가 이렇게 끔찍한 일을 저지르다니, 어찌 이럴 수가 있느냐?
  3. 이제 기브아에 있는 그 무뢰배들을 내놓아라. 그 녀석들을 사형에 처하여 이스라엘 가운데서 악을 뿌리뽑아야겠다." 그러나 베냐민 사람들은 동족 이스라엘 사람들의 말을 들으려 하지 않았다.
  4. 베냐민 사람들은 이스라엘 사람들과 싸우려고 살던 성읍들을 떠나 기브아에 집결하였다.
  5. 그 날 여러 성읍에서 모여온 베냐민 사람들을 점호해 보니, 기브아 주민말고도 칼 찬 군인이 이만 육천 명이나 되었다.
  1. Among all these soldiers there were seven hundred chosen men who were left-handed, each of whom could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.
  1. 그 군대에는 왼손잡이 정예부대 칠백 명이 있었는데 그들은 머리카락 하나 빗나가지 않게 맞히는 돌팔매질의 명수였다.
