출애굽기 17:1-18:27

신 광야에서 이스라엘 백성들이 갈증으로 인해 불평하자 하나님께서는 반석에서 물이 나오게 하심으로 백성들의 목마름을 해결해 주셨다. 아말렉과의 전쟁에서, 모세는 아론과 훌의 도움을 받아 해가 지도록 손을 들고 기도하여 아말렉을 이기게 되었다. 모세는 장인 이드로의 충고에 따라 백성들 가운데서 재덕을 갖춘 자로 천부장, 백부장, 오십부장, 십부장을 택하여 일을 맡겼다.
 
  아말렉과의 전쟁(17:1-17:16)    
 
  1. The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
  2. So they quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses replied, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?"
  3. But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, "Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?"
  4. Then Moses cried out to the LORD, "What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."
  5. The LORD answered Moses, "Walk on ahead of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.
  1. 이스라엘 백성은 여호와의 명령대로 신 광야를 떠나 또 다른 곳으로 이동하였다. 그들이 르비딤에 이르러 천막을 쳤으나 그 곳에는 마실 물이 없었다.
  2. 그러자 백성들이 모세에게 투덜대며 '우리에게 마실 물을 주시오.' 하고 소리쳤다. 그래서 모세가 그들에게 '여러분은 어째서 투덜대십니까? 어째서 여호와를 시험하십니까?' 하고 꾸짖었다.
  3. 그러나 목마른 백성들은 모세에게 '어째서 당신이 우리를 이집트에서 끌어내어 우리와 우리 자녀와 가축이 다 목말라 죽게 하십니까?' 하고 불평하였다.
  4. 그때 모세가 여호와께 '내가 이 백성을 어떻게 해야 합니까? 얼마 안 가서 그들이 나에게 돌질할 것입니다.' 하고 부르짖자
  5. 여호와께서 모세에게 대답하셨다. '너는 백성들 앞으로 가거라. 네가 갈 때는 이스라엘 장로들을 데리고 나일강을 치던 네 지팡이를 손에 잡고 가거라.
  1. I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
  2. And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"
  3. The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.
  4. Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands."
  5. So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill.
  1. 내가 시내산 바위 위에서 네 앞에 서겠다. 너는 그 지팡이로 바위를 치라. 그러면 바위에서 물이 나와 백성이 마실 수 있을 것이다.' 그래서 모세는 이스라엘 장로들이 보는 앞에서 그대로 하였다.
  2. 모세는 그 곳 이름을 맛사 또는 므리바라고 불렀다. 이것은 이스라엘 백성이 여호와와 다투고 시험하여 '여호와께서 우리 가운데 계시느냐, 계시지 않느냐?' 하고 떠들어댔기 때문이었다.
  3. 이때 아말렉 사람들이 와서 르비딤에 있는 이스라엘 백성을 공격하였다.
  4. 그러자 모세가 여호수아에게 '병력을 동원하여 나가서 아말렉과 싸워라. 내일 내가 하나님의 지팡이를 손에 잡고 산꼭대기에 서겠다.' 하고 말하였다.
  5. 그래서 여호수아는 모세가 명령한 대로 나가서 아말렉과 싸우고 한편 모세와 아론과 훌은 산꼭대기로 올라갔다.
  1. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
  2. When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up--one on one side, one on the other--so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
  3. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
  4. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven."
  5. Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.
  1. 그런데 모세가 손을 들고 있는 동안은 이스라엘 백성이 이기고 손을 내리면 아말렉이 이겼다.
  2. 모세의 팔이 피곤해지자 아론과 훌이 돌을 가져다가 모세를 그 위에 앉히고 해가 질 때까지 그들이 양쪽에 서서 하나는 이 팔을, 하나는 저 팔을 붙들어 그 손이 내려오지 않게 하였다.
  3. 이렇게 하여 여호수아는 아말렉군을 쳐서 완전히 무찔렀다.
  4. 그때 여호와께서 모세에게 '너는 이것을 책에 기록하여 기념이 되게 하고 그것을 여호수아에게 자세히 들려 주어라. 내가 지상에서 아말렉을 완전히 없애 버리겠다.' 하고 말씀하셨다.
  5. 모세는 거기서 단을 쌓고 그것을 '여호와 닛시'라고 부르며
  1. He said, "For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation."
  1. 여호와의 기를 높이 쳐들어라.! 여호와께서 아말렉과 대대로 싸우실 것이다.!' 하고 외쳤다.
 
  이드로의 충고(18:1-18:27)    
 
  1. Now Jethro, the priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses, heard of everything God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, and how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.
  2. After Moses had sent away his wife Zipporah, his father-in-law Jethro received her
  3. and her two sons. One son was named Gershom, for Moses said, "I have become an alien in a foreign land";
  4. and the other was named Eliezer, for he said, "My father's God was my helper; he saved me from the sword of Pharaoh."
  5. Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, together with Moses' sons and wife, came to him in the desert, where he was camped near the mountain of God.
  1. 모세의 장인이며 미디안의 제사장인 이드로는 하나님이 모세와 이스라엘 백성을 이집트에서 인도해 내실 때 그들에게 행하신 모든 일에 대하여 들었다.
  2. 그래서 그는 모세가 돌려보낸 그의 아내 십보라와
  3. 그의 두 아들을 데리고 모세가 있는 곳으로 떠났다. 모세의 두 아들은 게르솜과 엘리에셀이었다. 모세는 '내가 외국 땅에서 나그네가 되었다.' 하고
  4. 한 아들의 이름을 게르솜이라고 지었고 또 '내 아버지의 하나님이 나를 도와 바로의 칼날에서 나를 구원하셨다.' 하고 다른 아들의 이름을 엘리에셀이라고 지었던 것이다.
  5. 모세의 장인 이드로는 모세의 아들들과 아내를 데리고 모세가 천막을 치고 있는 광야로 들어왔는데 그 곳은 하나님의 산이 있는 곳이었다.
  1. Jethro had sent word to him, "I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons."
  2. So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down and kissed him. They greeted each other and then went into the tent.
  3. Moses told his father-in-law about everything the LORD had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel's sake and about all the hardships they had met along the way and how the LORD had saved them.
  4. Jethro was delighted to hear about all the good things the LORD had done for Israel in rescuing them from the hand of the Egyptians.
  5. He said, "Praise be to the LORD, who rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and of Pharaoh, and who rescued the people from the hand of the Egyptians.
  1. 그가 모세에게 자기들이 왔다는 말을 전하자
  2. 모세가 나가서 그의 장인을 맞아 그 앞에 절하고 그에게 입을 맞추었다. 그리고서 그들은 서로 안부를 묻고 함께 천막에 들어갔다.
  3. 모세는 여호와께서 이스라엘 백성을 구하기 위해 바로와 이집트 사람들에게 행한 모든 일과 그들이 오는 도중에 당한 모든 어려움과 또 여호와께서 어떻게 그들을 구원하셨는가를 자기 장인에게 다 말하였다.
  4. 그러자 이드로가 그 모든 일을 듣고 기뻐하며
  5. 이렇게 말하였다. '여호와를 찬양하라! 그가 너희를 바로와 이집트 사람의 손에서 건져내시고 종살이하던 백성을 구원하셨다.
  1. Now I know that the LORD is greater than all other gods, for he did this to those who had treated Israel arrogantly."
  2. Then Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and other sacrifices to God, and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law in the presence of God.
  3. The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening.
  4. When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, "What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?"
  5. Moses answered him, "Because the people come to me to seek God's will.
  1. 여호와께서 자기 백성을 교만하고 잔인한 이집트 백성에게서 구원하셨으니 이제 나는 여호와가 모든 신보다 위대하신 분임을 알았다.'
  2. 그리고서 모세의 장인 이드로가 불이 태워 바칠 번제물과 그 밖에 하나님께 드릴 희생제물을 가져 오자 아론과 이스라엘의 모든 장로들이 와서 모세의 장인과 함께 하나님 앞에서 식사하였다.
  3. 이튿날 모세는 백성을 재판하느라고 자리에 앉았고 백성들은 아침부터 저녁까지 모세의 주변에 서 있었다.
  4. 그러자 모세의 장인이 모세가 백성들에게 하는 모든 일을 보고 말하였다. '자네는 어째서 백성들에게 이렇게 하는가? 어째서 자네 혼자 앉아 일을 하고 백성들은 아침부더 저녁까지 자네 주변에 서 있는가?'
  5. 백성들이 하나님의 뜻을 알아보려고 나를 찾아오기 때문입니다.
  1. Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God's decrees and laws."
  2. Moses' father-in-law replied, "What you are doing is not good.
  3. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.
  4. Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to him.
  5. Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform.
  1. 그들이 문제를 가지고 오면 내가 옳고 그른 것을 가려 주고 하나님의 명령과 법을 그들에게 가르쳐 주고 있습니다.'
  2. 그러자 모세의 장인이 그에게 이렇게 말하였다. '자네가 하는 일이 옳지 못하네.
  3. 그렇게 하면 자네와 백성이 쉽게 지쳐 버리고 말 걸세. 자네 혼자서 처리하기에는 일이 너무 많아.
  4. 이제 내 말을 듣게. 내가 자네에게 몇 가지 조언을 해 주겠네. 하나님이 자네와 함께 하실 것이야. 자네는 하나님 앞에서 백성의 대변자가 되어 그들의 문제를 하나님께 말씀드리고
  5. 백성에게 하나님의 법과 명령을 가르치며 그들이 어떻게 살아야 하고 무엇을 해야 할 것인가를 보여 주게.
  1. But select capable men from all the people--men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain--and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
  2. Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.
  3. If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied."
  4. Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said.
  5. He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
  1. 그리고 자네는 백성들 가운데 하나님을 두려워하며 진실하고 청렴 결백한 유능한 인재들을 뽑아 1,000명, 100명, 50명, 10명씩 각각 담당하게 하여
  2. 언제나 그들이 백성들을 재판할 수 있도록 하게. 그들이 처리할 수 있는 문제는 그들 스스로 처리하게 하고 그들이 해결할 수 없는 어려운 문제는 자네에게 가져오게 하여 자네가 직접 재판해 주게. 이와 같이 그들이 자네와 짐을 나누어 지게 되면 자네 일이 보다 쉬워질 걸세.
  3. 만일 자네가 이렇게 하고 또 하나님도 이것을 승낙하신다면 자네는 이 일을 감당할 수 있을 것이며 백성들도 만족스러운 표정으로 돌아갈 걸세'
  4. 그래서 모세는 자기 장인의 조언을 그대로 받아들여
  5. 이스라엘 백성 가운데 유능한 인재들을 뽑아 그들에게 각각 1,000명, 100명, 50명, 10명씩 맡겨 지도자로 일하게 하였다.
  1. They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves.
  2. Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, and Jethro returned to his own country.
  1. 그래서 그들이 항상 백성들을 재판했는데 어려운 문제는 모세에게 가져가고 그들 스스로 해결할 수 있는 쉬운 문제는 그들이 직접 재판하였다.
  2. 그 후에 모세의 장인 이드로는 모세의 전송을 받고 자기 고향으로 돌아갔다.
