요나

  본서는 요나의 니느웨 구원 사건을 통하여 이방인에게 미치는 하나님의 구원의 손길을 명확하게 보여 주고 있으며, 사흘 간 물고기의 뱃속에 갇힌 요나 사건을 통해서 예수님의 부활 사건을 예표하고 있다.

  요나는 니느웨 선교 소명을 받았으나 불순종하여 하나님을 피해 달아난다. 그러나 하나님의 섭리로 물고기에게 삼키우게 된다. 이에 요나는 회개하고 소명을 감당한다. 니느웨는 요나의 외침을 듣고 회개하여 심판을 면하게 된다. 그러자 이를 본 요나는 하나님께 불평하지만, 하나님께서는 그에게 박 넝쿨의 교훈을 통해 하나님은 만민의 하나님이심을 깨우쳐 주신다.

 

 

요나 1:1-4:11

 요나는 하나님의 말씀을 전하도록 니느웨로 보내심을 받았으나 순종치 않고 배를 타고 도망하였다. 그러나 하나님께서 풍랑을 보내셔서 파선하게 되자, 그는 자신의 죄를 고백하고 바다에 던져졌다. 큰 물고기에게 삼켜져 그 뱃속에서 3일 간 회개하고 구원받은 요나는 니느웨(TM)에서 회개를 외쳤다. 그러나 그들이 회개하고 구원받자 하나님께 화를 내며 불평하였다. 이에 하나님께서는 박 넝쿨을 통해 그를 교훈하셨다.
  
  요나 선지자(1:1-4:11)    
 
  1. The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai:
  2. "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me."
  3. But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.
  4. Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.
  5. All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
  1. 여호와께서 아밋대의 아들 요나에게 말씀하셨다.
  2. '너는 저 큰 니느웨성으로 가서 그 성이 멸망할 것이라고 외쳐라. 그 곳 주민들의 죄악이 하늘에까지 사무쳤다.'
  3. 그러나 요나는 여호와를 피하여 다시스로 달아나려고 욥바로 내려갔다. 때마침 다시스로 가는 배가 있어 그는 여호와를 피해 도망하려고 뱃삯을 주고 선원들과 함께 배에 올라탔다.
  4. 그러나 여호와께서 바다에 강한 바람을 보내 폭풍이 일게 하시므로 배가 거의 깨어지게 되었다.
  5. 그러자 선원들이 두려워하며 각자 자기가 섬기는 신에게 도와 달라고 부르짖고 배를 가볍게 하려고 짐을 바다에 던졌다. 이때 요나는 배 밑층에서 깊이 잠들어 있었다.
  1. The captain went to him and said, "How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us, and we will not perish."
  2. Then the sailors said to each other, "Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity." They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.
  3. So they asked him, "Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?"
  4. He answered, "I am a Hebrew and I worship the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the land."
  5. This terrified them and they asked, "What have you done?" (They knew he was running away from the LORD, because he had already told them so.)
  1. 선장이 그를 보자 고래고래 소리쳤다. '당신은 어째서 이런 때에 잠을 자고 있소? 일어나 당신의 신에게 도움을 구하시오! 그가 우리를 불쌍히 여겨 구해 줄는지 누가 알겠소.'
  2. 그때 선원들은 '이 재앙이 누구 때문인지 제비를 뽑아 알아보자' 하고 서로 말하며 제비를 뽑았는데 그 제비에 요나가 뽑혔다.
  3. 그러자 그들이 요나에게 물었다. '무슨 이유로 우리가 이 재앙을 당하게 되었는지 말해 보시오. 당신은 도대체 뭣하는 사람이며, 어디서 왔으며, 어느 나라 사람이오?'
  4. 그때 요나가 '나는 히브리 사람이며 바다와 육지를 만드신 하늘의 하나님 여호와를 섬기는 사람입니다.' 하고 대답하며
  5. 자기가 여호와를 피해 도망치고 있음을 그들에게 밝혔다. 그러자 선원들은 몹시 두려워하며 '당신이 어째서 이런 짓을 하였소?' 하였다.
  1. The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, "What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?"
  2. "Pick me up and throw me into the sea," he replied, "and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you."
  3. Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before.
  4. Then they cried to the LORD, "O LORD, please do not let us die for taking this man's life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, O LORD, have done as you pleased."
  5. Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.
  1. 폭풍이 점점 더 무섭게 휘몰아치자 선원들은 요나에게 '우리가 당신을 어떻게 해야 바다가 잔잔하겠소?' 하고 물었다.
  2. 그때 요나가 대답하였다. '나를 들어 바다에 던지시오. 그러면 바다가 잔잔해질 것입니다. 여러분이 이 폭풍을 만나게 된 것이 내 탓이라는 것을 나는 잘 알고 있습니다.'
  3. 그래도 그 선원들은 최선을 다해 노를 저어 배를 육지에 대려고 하였으나 점점 더 사나운 파도가 밀어닥치므로 그렇게 할 수가 없었다.
  4. 그래서 그들은 '여호와여, 죄 없는 사람을 죽인다고 우리를 벌하지 마소서. 여호와여, 당신은 당신의 뜻대로 행하시는 분이시므로 이 사람의 죽음에 대해서 우리에게는 아무 잘못이 없습니다.' 하고
  5. 요나를 들어 바다에 던졌다. 그러자 성난 바다가 즉시 잔잔해졌다.
  1. At this the men greatly feared the LORD, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to him.
  2. But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.
  1. 이것을 본 선원들은 여호와를 크게 두려워하며 그에게 제사를 드리고 그를 섬기겠다고 서약하였다.
  2. 여호와께서 이미 큰 물고기를 예비하셔서 요나를 삼키게 하셨으므로 요나가 밤낮 3일을 고기 뱃속에 있었다.
 
 
  1. From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.
  2. He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
  3. You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.
  4. I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'
  5. The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.
  1. 요나는 물고기 뱃속에서 자기 하나님 여호와께 이렇게 기도하였다.
  2. '내가 고통 중에 주께 부르짖었더니 주께서는 나에게 응답하셨으며 내가 무덤과 같은 곳에서 주의 도움을 구하였더니 주께서 내 음성을 들으셨습니다.
  3. 주께서 나를 바다 깊은 곳에 던지셨으므로 물이 나를 두르고 주의 큰 파도가 나를 덮쳤습니다.
  4. 내가 주 앞에서 쫓겨났으나 나는 다시 주의 성전을 바라보겠다고 말하였습니다.
  5. 물이 나를 덮쳐 내가 바다 깊은 곳이 빠졌을 때 바다풀이 내 머리를 휘감았습니다.
  1. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God.
  2. "When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
  3. "Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.
  4. But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD."
  5. And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
  1. 내가 해저의 산 밑바닥까지 내려가 죽음의 땅에 갇혀 있었으나 나의 하나님 여호와여, 주께서 내 생명을 죽음에서 구해 내셨습니다.
  2. 내 생명이 서서히 사라져 갈 때 내가 다시 한번 여호와를 생각하며 기도하였더니 성전에 계시는 주께서 내 기도를 들으셨습니다.
  3. 무가치한 우상을 숭배하는 자들은 주의 자비를 저버린 자들입니다.
  4. 그러나 나는 감사의 노래로 주께 제사를 드리며 내가 서약한 것을 지키겠습니다. 구원은 여호와께서 주시는 것입니다.'
  5. 여호와께서 물고기에게 명령하시자 그 물고기가 요나를 해변에 토해 내었다.
 
 
  1. Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:
  2. "Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you."
  3. Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city--a visit required three days.
  4. On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned."
  5. The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.
  1. 여호와께서 다시 요나에게 말씀하셨다.
  2. '너는 저 큰 니느웨성으로 가서 내가 전에 너에게 말한 대로 니느웨성의 멸망을 선포하라.'
  3. 그래서 요나는 여호와의 말씀에 순종하여 니느웨로 갔다. 니느웨는 대단히 커서 한 바퀴 도는 데 걸어서 3일이나 걸리는 큰 성이었다.
  4. 요나는 그 성에 들어가 하루종일 돌아다니며 40일 후에는 그 성이 멸망할 것이라고 외쳤다.
  5. 니느웨 사람들은 요나가 전한 하나님의 말씀을 믿었다. 그래서 그들은 금식을 선포하고 신분이 높은 사람이나 낮은 사람이나 모두 회개하는 마음으로 굵은 삼베 옷을 입었다.
  1. When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.
  2. Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.
  3. But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence.
  4. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish."
  5. When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.
  1. 그 소문을 들은 니느웨 왕은 자기 왕좌에서 일어나 왕복을 벗고 굵은 삼베 옷을 입고 잿더미에 앉았다.
  2. 그리고서 왕은 니느웨 사람들에게 이런 조서를 내렸다. '이것은 왕과 대신들의 명령이다. 사람이나 짐승이나 일체 먹을 것을 입에 대서는 안 되며 물도 마셔서는 안 된다.
  3. 사람이나 짐승이나 다 굵은 삼베를 걸칠 것이며 모든 사람들은 하나님께 진심으로 기도하고 각자 자기 잘못을 뉘우치고 악을 버려라.
  4. 하나님이 혹시 뜻을 돌이키시고 분노를 거두셔서 우리를 멸망시키지 않으실지 누가 알겠는가!'
  5. 하나님은 그들이 자기들의 잘못을 뉘우치고 악한 길에서 돌아서는 것을 보시고 뜻을 돌이키셔서 그들에게 내리겠다고 선언하신 재앙을 내리지 않으셨다.
 
 
  1. But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry.
  2. He prayed to the LORD, "O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.
  3. Now, O LORD, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."
  4. But the LORD replied, "Have you any right to be angry?"
  5. Jonah went out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city.
  1. 그러나 하나님이 뜻을 돌이킨 데 대하여 요나는 기분이 언짢아 분개하며
  2. 여호와께 이렇게 기도하였다. '여호와여, 내가 고국에 있을 때에 주께서 이렇게 하실 것이라고 내가 말하지 않았습니까? 그래서 내가 급히 다시스로 도망하였습니다. 나는 주께서 은혜롭고 자비로우시며 쉽게 노하지 않으시고 언제나 사랑이 풍성하셔서 뜻을 돌이키시고 재앙을 내리지 않으시는 하나님인 것을 알았습니다.
  3. 여호와여, 이제 내 생명을 거두어 가소서. 사는 것보다 차라리 죽는 편이 낫겠습니다.'
  4. 그러자 여호와께서 '네가 성낼 만한 이유라도 있느냐?' 하고 말씀하셨다.
  5. 그래서 요나는 성에서 나가 성 동편에 초막을 만들고 그 그늘 아래 앉아 그 성이 어떻게 되는지 보고자 하였다.
  1. Then the LORD God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine.
  2. But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the vine so that it withered.
  3. When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah's head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, "It would be better for me to die than to live."
  4. But God said to Jonah, "Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?" "I do," he said. "I am angry enough to die."
  5. But the LORD said, "You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight.
  1. 초막이 시들자 여호와 하나님이 박 덩굴을 자라게 하여 요나의 머리 위에 그늘을 만들어 주심으로 더위를 피하게 하셨다. 그래서 요나는 그 박 덩굴 때문이 대단히 기분이 좋았다.
  2. 그러나 다음 날 새벽에 하나님이 벌레를 준비하셔서 그 박 덩굴을 씹게 하시므로 그것이 곧 시들어 버렸다.
  3. 해가 떴을 때 하나님이 뜨거운 동풍을 보내시자 요나는 머리 위에 내리쬐는 태양의 열기로 쓰러질 지경이었다. 그래서 그는 죽고 싶어하며 '사는 것보다 차라리 죽는 편이 더 낫겠다.' 하였다.
  4. 그러나 하나님이 요나에게 말씀하셨다. '네가 이 박 덩굴에 대하여 화낼 만한 이유가 있느냐?' '예, 있습니다. 내가 죽고 싶을 정도로 화낼 만한 이유가 있습니다!'
  5. '너는 네가 수고하지도 않았고 키우지도 않았으며 하룻밤 사이에 났다가 그 다음 날 아침에 말라 죽은 그 박 덩굴도 측은하게 생각하였다.
  1. But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?"
  1. 하물며 선악을 분별하지 못하는 사람이 12만 명이 넘고 수많은 가축도 있는 이 큰 니느웨성을 내가 불쌍히 여기는 것이 옳지 않느냐?'
