사도행전 22:22-23:11

 바울의 변론을 듣고 더욱 완악해진 유대인들은 그를 죽이려 했지만, 위기에 처한 바울은 자신의 로마 시민권을 이용해 위기에서 모면하였다. 또한 공회로 넘겨진 바울은 산헤드린 공회 앞에서 변론한 후 투옥되었다.
  
  로마 시민권 주장(22:22-22:30)    
 
  1. The crowd listened to Paul until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted, "Rid the earth of him! He's not fit to live!"
  2. As they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air,
  3. the commander ordered Paul to be taken into the barracks. He directed that he be flogged and questioned in order to find out why the people were shouting at him like this.
  4. As they stretched him out to flog him, Paul said to the centurion standing there, "Is it legal for you to flog a Roman citizen who hasn't even been found guilty?"
  5. When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and reported it. "What are you going to do?" he asked. "This man is a Roman citizen."
  1. 사람들이 바울의 말을 여기까지 듣고 있다가 "이런 자는 없애 버려라. 살려 두면 안 된다" 하고 소리를 질렀다.
  2. 그리고 그들은 고함을 치며, 옷을 벗어 던지며, 공중에 먼지를 날렸다.
  3. 그 때에 천부장이 바울을 병영 안으로 끌어들이라고 명령하였다. 그리고 그는 유대 사람들이 바울에게 이렇게 소리를 지르는 이유를 알아내려고, 바울을 채찍질하면서 캐물어 보라고 하였다.
  4. 그들이 채찍질을 하려고 바울을 눕혔을 때에, 바울은 거기에 서 있는 백부장에게 "로마 시민을 유죄판결도 내리지 않고 매질하는 법이 어디에 있소?" 하고 말하였다.
  5. 백부장이 이 말을 듣고, 천부장에게로 가서 "어떻게 하시렵니까? 이 사람은 로마 시민입니다" 하고 알렸다.
  1. The commander went to Paul and asked, "Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?" "Yes, I am," he answered.
  2. Then the commander said, "I had to pay a big price for my citizenship." "But I was born a citizen," Paul replied.
  3. Those who were about to question him withdrew immediately. The commander himself was alarmed when he realized that he had put Paul, a Roman citizen, in chains.
  4. The next day, since the commander wanted to find out exactly why Paul was being accused by the Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the Sanhedrin to assemble. Then he brought Paul and had him stand before them.
  1. 그러자 천부장이 바울에게로 와서 "내게 말하시오. 당신이 로마 시민이오?" 하고 물었다. 바울이 그렇다고 대답하니,
  2. 천부장은 "나는 돈을 많이 들여서 이 시민권을 얻었소" 하고 말하였다. 바울은 "나는 나면서부터입니다" 하고 말하였다.
  3. 그러자 바울을 신문하려고 하던 사람들이 곧 물러갔다. 천부장도 바울이 로마 시민이라는 사실을 알고는, 그를 결박해 놓은 일로 두려워하였다.
  4. 이튿날 천부장은 무슨 일로 유대 사람이 바울을 고소하는지, 그 진상을 알아보려고 하였다. 그래서 그는 바울의 결박을 풀어주고, 명령을 내려서, 대제사장들과 온 의회를 모이게 하였다. 그리고 그는 바울을 데리고 내려가서, 그들 앞에 세웠다.
 
  공회에서의 변론(23:1-23:11)    
 
  1. Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day."
  2. At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth.
  3. Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!"
  4. Those who were standing near Paul said, "You dare to insult God's high priest?"
  5. Paul replied, "Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written: 'Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.'"
  1. 바울이 의회원들을 주목하고 말하였다. "동포 여러분, 나는 이 날까지 하나님 앞에서 오로지 바른 양심을 가지고 살아왔습니다."
  2. 이 말을 듣고, 대제사장 아나니아가 곁에 서 있는 사람들에게 바울의 입을 치라고 명령하였다.
  3. 그러자 바울이 그에게 말하였다. "회칠한 벽이여, 하나님께서 당신을 치실 것이오. 당신이 율법대로 나를 재판한다고 거기에 앉아 있으면서, 도리어 율법을 거슬러서, 나를 치라고 명령하시오?"
  4. 곁에 서 있는 사람들이 말하였다. "그대가 하나님의 대제사장을 모욕하오?"
  5. 바울이 말하였다. "동포 여러분, 나는 그가 대제사장인 줄 몰랐소. 성경에 기록하기를 '너의 백성의 지도자를 욕하지 말아라' 하였소."
  1. Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead."
  2. When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.
  3. (The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, and that there are neither angels nor spirits, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.)
  4. There was a great uproar, and some of the teachers of the law who were Pharisees stood up and argued vigorously. "We find nothing wrong with this man," they said. "What if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?"
  5. The dispute became so violent that the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them. He ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force and bring him into the barracks.
  1. 그런데 바울이 그들의 한 부분은 사두개파 사람이요, 한 부분은 바리새파 사람인 것을 알고서, 의회에서 큰소리로 말하였다. "동포 여러분, 나는 바리새파 사람이요, 바리새파 사람의 아들입니다. 나는 지금, 죽은 사람들이 부활할 것이라는 소망 때문에 재판을 받고 있습니다."
  2. 바울이 이렇게 말하니, 바리새파 사람과 사두개파 사람 사이에 다툼이 생겨서, 회중이 나뉘었다.
  3. 사두개파 사람은 부활도 천사도 영도 없다고 하는데, 바리새파 사람은 그것을 다 인정하기 때문이다.
  4. 그래서 큰 소동이 일어났다. 바리새파 사람 편에서 율법학자 몇 사람이 일어나서, 바울 편을 들어서 말하였다. "우리는 이 사람에게서 조금도 잘못을 찾을 수 없습니다. 만일 영이나 천사가 그에게 말하여 주었으면, 어찌하겠습니까?"
  5. 싸움이 커지니, 천부장은, 바울이 그들에게 찢길까 염려하여, 군인더러 내려가서 바울을 그들 가운데서 빼내어, 병영 안으로 데려가라고 명령하였다.
  1. The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, "Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome."
  1. 그 날 밤에 주님께서 바울 곁에 서서 말씀하셨다. "용기를 내어라. 네가 예루살렘에서 나의 일을 증언한 것과 같이, 로마에서도 증언하여야 한다."
 
  사두개인( 23:6)  영적 존재에 대한 믿음과 부활, 그리고 예정론에 대한 교리를 부인하면서 오직 기록된 말씀만을 인정하는 유대교의 한 분파
