- Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?
- No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.
- You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons.
- Are we trying to arouse the Lord's jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
- "Everything is permissible"--but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"--but not everything is constructive.

- すると， なんと 言ったらよいか． 偶像にささげる 供え 物は， 何か 意味があるのか． また， 偶像は 何かほんとうにあるものか．
- そうではない． 人¿が 供える 物は， 惡靈ども， すなわち， 神ならぬ 者に 供えるのである． わたしは， あなたがたが 惡靈の 仲間になることを 望まない．
- 主の 杯と 惡靈どもの 杯とを， 同時に 飮むことはできない． 主の 食卓と 惡靈どもの 食卓とに， 同時にあずかることはできない．
- それとも， わたしたちは 主のねたみを 起そうとするのか． わたしたちは， 主よりも 强いのだろうか．
- すべてのことは 許されている． しかし， すべてのことが 益になるわけではない． すべてのことは 許されている． しかし， すべてのことが 人の 德を 高めるのではない．

- Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
- Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience,
- for, "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it."
- If some unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience.
- But if anyone says to you, "This has been offered in sacrifice," then do not eat it, both for the sake of the man who told you and for conscience' sake--

- だれでも， 自分の 益を 求めないで， ほかの 人の 益を 求めるべきである．
- すべて 市場で 賣られている 物は， いちいち 良心に 問うことをしないで， 食べるがよい．
- 地とそれに 滿ちている 物とは， 主のものだからである．
- もしあなたがたが， 不信者のだれかに 招かれて， そこに 行こうと 思う 場合， 自分の 前に 出される 物はなんでも， いちいち 良心に 問うことをしないで， 食べるがよい．
- しかし， だれかがあなたがたに， これはささげ 物の 肉だと 言ったなら， それを 知らせてくれた 人のために， また 良心のために， 食べないがよい．

- If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for?
- So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

- 良心と 言ったのは， 自分の 良心ではなく， 他人の 良心のことである． なぜなら， わたしの 自由が， どうして 他人の 良心によって 左右されることがあろうか．
- もしわたしが 感謝して 食べる 場合， その 感謝する 物について， どうして 人のそしりを 受けるわけがあろうか．
- だから， 飮むにも 食べるにも， また 何事をするにも， すべて 神の 榮光のためにすべきである．
- ユダヤ 人にも ギリシヤ 人にも 神の 敎會にも， つまずきになってはいけない．
- わたしもまた， 何事にもすべての 人に 喜ばれるように 努め， 多くの 人が 救われるために， 自分の 益ではなく 彼らの 益を 求めている．
