- Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say.
- To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.

- そこで， 高慢にならないように， わたしの 肉體に 一つのとげが 與えられた． それは， 高慢にならないように， わたしを 打つ サタン の 使なのである．
- このことについて， わたしは 彼を 離れ 去らせて 下さるようにと， 三度も 主に 祈った．

- だから， わたしは キリスト のためならば， 弱さと， 侮辱と， 危機と， 迫害と， 行き 詰まりとに 甘んじよう． なぜなら， わたしが 弱い 時にこそ， わたしは 强いからである．
