- Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews.
- Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.
- Here a great number of disabled people used to lie--the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.

- One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

- その 後， ユダヤ 人の 祭りがあったので， イエス は エルサレム に 上られた．
- エルサレム には 羊の 門の 傍らに， ヘブライ 語で「ベトザタ 」と 呼ばれる 池があり， そこには 五つの 回廊があった．
- この 回廊には， 病氣の 人， 目の 見えない 人， 足の 不自由な 人， 體の 麻 ｃ した 人などが， 大勢橫たわっていた．
- ＊彼らは， 水が 動くのを 待っていた． それは， 主の 使いがときどき 池に 降りて 來て， 水が 動くことがあり， 水が 動いたとき， 眞っ 先に 水に 入る 者は， どんな 病氣にかかっていても， いやされたからである．
- さて， そこに 三十八年も 病氣で 苦しんでいる 人がいた．

- When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?"
- "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."
- Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."
- At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath,
- and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed, "It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat."

- イエス は， その 人が 橫たわっているのを 見， また， もう 長い 間病氣であるのを 知って， 「良くなりたいか 」と 言われた．
- 病人は 答えた． 「主よ， 水が 動くとき， わたしを 池の 中に 入れてくれる 人がいないのです． わたしが 行くうちに， ほかの 人が 先に 降りて 行くのです． 」
- イエス は 言われた． 「起き 上がりなさい． 床を 擔いで 步きなさい． 」
- すると， その 人はすぐに 良くなって， 床を 擔いで 步きだした． その 日は 安息日であった．
- そこで， ユダヤ 人たちは 病氣をいやしていただいた 人に 言った． 「今日は 安息日だ． だから 床を 擔ぐことは， 律法で 許されていない． 」

- But he replied, "The man who made me well said to me, 'Pick up your mat and walk.' "
- So they asked him, "Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?"
- The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.
- Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."
- The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

- しかし， その 人は， 「わたしをいやしてくださった 方が， 『床を 擔いで 步きなさい 』と 言われたのです 」と 答えた．
- 彼らは， 「お 前に『床を 擔いで 步きなさい 』と 言ったのはだれだ 」と 尋ねた．
- しかし， 病氣をいやしていただいた 人は， それがだれであるか 知らなかった． イエス は， 群衆がそこにいる 間に， 立ち 去られたからである．
- その 後， イエス は， 神殿の 境內でこの 人に 出會って 言われた． 「あなたは 良くなったのだ． もう， 罪を 犯してはいけない． さもないと， もっと 惡いことが 起こるかもしれない． 」
- この 人は 立ち 去って， 自分をいやしたのは イエス だと， ユダヤ 人たちに 知らせた．

- So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him.
- Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working."
- For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

- そのために， ユダヤ 人たちは イエス を 迫害し 始めた． イエス が， 安息日にこのようなことをしておられたからである．
- イエス はお 答えになった． 「わたしの 父は 今もなお ¿いておられる． だから， わたしも ¿くのだ． 」
- このために， ユダヤ 人たちは， ますます イエス を 殺そうとねらうようになった． イエス が 安息日を 破るだけでなく， 神を 御自分の 父と 呼んで， 御自身を 神と 等しい 者とされたからである．
