  1. A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
  2. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him-- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD -
  3. and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;
  4. but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
  5. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
  1. Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
  2. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
  3. And He will delight in the fear of the LORD, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;
  4. But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.
  5. Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist.
  1. The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
  2. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
  3. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest.
  4. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
  5. In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.
  1. And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them.
  2. Also the cow and the bear will graze, Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
  3. The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den.
  4. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.
  5. Then in that day The nations will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious.
  1. In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.
  2. He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; he will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth.
  3. Ephraim's jealousy will vanish, and Judah's enemies will be cut off; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim.
  4. They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia to the west; together they will plunder the people to the east. They will lay hands on Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be subject to them.
  5. The LORD will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian sea; with a scorching wind he will sweep his hand over the Euphrates River. He will break it up into seven streams so that men can cross over in sandals.
  1. Then it will happen on that day that the Lord Will again recover the second time with His hand The remnant of His people, who will remain, From Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, And from the islands of the sea.
  2. And He will lift up a standard for the nations And assemble the banished ones of Israel, And will gather the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earth.
  3. Then the jealousy of Ephraim will depart, And those who harass Judah will be cut off; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, And Judah will not harass Ephraim.
  4. They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west; Together they will plunder the sons of the east; They will possess Edom and Moab, And the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.
  5. And the LORD will utterly destroy The tongue of the Sea of Egypt; And He will wave His hand over the River With His scorching wind; And He will strike it into seven streams And make men walk over dry-shod.
  1. There will be a highway for the remnant of his people that is left from Assyria, as there was for Israel when they came up from Egypt.
  1. And there will be a highway from Assyria For the remnant of His people who will be left, Just as there was for Israel In the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.

  1. In that day you will say: "I will praise you, O LORD. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me.
  2. Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation."
  3. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
  4. In that day you will say: "Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted.
  5. Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world.
  1. Then you will say on that day, "I will give thanks to You, O LORD; For although You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, And You comfort me.
  2. "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the LORD GOD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation."
  3. Therefore you will joyously draw water From the springs of salvation.
  4. And in that day you will say, "Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name Make known His deeds among the peoples; Make them remember that His name is exalted."
  5. Praise the LORD in song, for He has done excellent things; Let this be known throughout the earth.
  1. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you."
  1. Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

  1. An oracle concerning Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw:
  2. Raise a banner on a bare hilltop, shout to them; beckon to them to enter the gates of the nobles.
  3. I have commanded my holy ones; I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath-- those who rejoice in my triumph.
  4. Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The LORD Almighty is mustering an army for war.
  5. They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens-- the LORD and the weapons of his wrath-- to destroy the whole country.
  1. The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.
  2. Lift up a standard on the bare hill, Raise your voice to them, Wave the hand that they may enter the doors of the nobles.
  3. I have commanded My consecrated ones, I have even called My mighty warriors, My proudly exulting ones, To execute My anger.
  4. A sound of tumult on the mountains, Like that of many people! A sound of the uproar of kingdoms, Of nations gathered together! The LORD of hosts is mustering the army for battle.
  5. They are coming from a far country, From the farthest horizons, The LORD and His instruments of indignation, To destroy the whole land.
  1. Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty.
  2. Because of this, all hands will go limp, every man's heart will melt.
  3. Terror will seize them, pain and anguish will grip them; they will writhe like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at each other, their faces aflame.
  4. See, the day of the LORD is coming --a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger-- to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it.
  5. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light.
  1. Wail, for the day of the LORD is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.
  2. Therefore all hands will fall limp, And every man's heart will melt.
  3. They will be terrified, Pains and anguish will take hold of them; They will writhe like a woman in labor, They will look at one another in astonishment, Their faces aflame.
  4. Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, Cruel, with fury and burning anger, To make the land a desolation; And He will exterminate its sinners from it.
  5. For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not flash forth their light; The sun will be dark when it rises And the moon will not shed its light.
  1. I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.
  2. I will make man scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir.
  3. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.
  4. Like a hunted gazelle, like sheep without a shepherd, each will return to his own people, each will flee to his native land.
  5. Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword.
  1. Thus I will punish the world for its evil And the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud And abase the haughtiness of the ruthless.
  2. I will make mortal man scarcer than pure gold And mankind than the gold of Ophir.
  3. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, And the earth will be shaken from its place At the fury of the LORD of hosts In the day of His burning anger.
  4. And it will be that like a hunted gazelle, Or like sheep with none to gather them, They will each turn to his own people, And each one flee to his own land.
  5. Anyone who is found will be thrust through, And anyone who is captured will fall by the sword.
  1. Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives ravished.
  2. See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold.
  3. Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants nor will they look with compassion on children.
  4. Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the glory of the Babylonians' pride, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.
  5. She will never be inhabited or lived in through all generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherd will rest his flocks there.
  1. Their little ones also will be dashed to pieces Before their eyes; Their houses will be plundered And their wives ravished.
  2. Behold, I am going to stir up the Medes against them, Who will not value silver or take pleasure in gold.
  3. And their bows will mow down the young men, They will not even have compassion on the fruit of the womb, Nor will their eye pity children.
  4. And Babylon, the beauty of kingdoms, the glory of the Chaldeans' pride, Will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
  5. It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation; Nor will the Arab pitch his tent there, Nor will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
  1. But desert creatures will lie there, jackals will fill her houses; there the owls will dwell, and there the wild goats will leap about.
  2. Hyenas will howl in her strongholds, jackals in her luxurious palaces. Her time is at hand, and her days will not be prolonged.
  1. But desert creatures will lie down there, And their houses will be full of owls; Ostriches also will live there, and shaggy goats will frolic there.
  2. Hyenas will howl in their fortified towers And jackals in their luxurious palaces. Her fateful time also will soon come And her days will not be prolonged.
