예레미야 5:1-6:30

 유다의 선지자와 제사장 그리고 백성들 모두가 하나님의 규례를 어기며 가난한 자와 약한 자를 착취하는 죄를 범하였기 때문에 유다는 하나님의 심판을 피할 수 없었다. 하나님께서는 심판이 바벨론에 의한 전쟁으로 시행될 것이라고 선언하셨다. 임박한 바벨론의 침공을 앞두고 예레미야는 회개를 촉구했으나 백성과 지도자들은 이를 무시하고 듣지 않았다.
  
  유다 심판 이유(5:1-5:31)    
 
  1. "Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem, look around and consider, search through her squares. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city.
  2. Although they say, 'As surely as the LORD lives,' still they are swearing falsely."
  3. O LORD, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.
  4. I thought, "These are only the poor; they are foolish, for they do not know the way of the LORD, the requirements of their God.
  5. So I will go to the leaders and speak to them; surely they know the way of the LORD, the requirements of their God." But with one accord they too had broken off the yoke and torn off the bonds.
  1. "예루살렘에 사는 사람들아, 예루살렘의 모든 거리를 두루 돌아다니며, 둘러보고 찾아보아라. 예루살렘의 모든 광장을 샅샅이 뒤져 보아라. 너희가 그 곳에서, 바르게 일하고 진실하게 살려고 하는 사람을 하나라도 찾는다면, 내가 이 도성을 용서하겠다."
  2. 그들이 주님께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하고, 주님을 섬긴다고 말하지만, 말하는 것과 사는 것이 다르다.
  3. 주님, 주님께서는 몸소 진실을 찾고 계셨습니다. 주님께서 그들을 때리셨어도 그들은 정신을 차리지 않으며, 주님께서 그들을 멸망시키신 것인데도 그들은 교훈받기를 거절합니다. 그들은 얼굴을 바윗돌보다도 더 굳게 하고, 주님께로 돌아오기를 거절합니다.
  4. 나는 이러한 생각도 해보았다. '가난하고 무식한 사람들은 주님의 길도 모르고 하나님께서 주신 법도 모르니, 그처럼 어리석게 행동할 수밖에 없겠지.
  5. 이제 부유하고 유식한 사람들에게 가서, 그들에게 이야기를 해보자. 그들이야말로 주님의 길과 하나님께서 주신 법을 알고 있을 것이다.' 그러나 그들도 한결같이 고삐 풀린 망아지들이다. 멍에를 부러뜨리고, 결박한 끈을 끊어 버린 자들이다.
  1. Therefore a lion from the forest will attack them, a wolf from the desert will ravage them, a leopard will lie in wait near their towns to tear to pieces any who venture out, for their rebellion is great and their backslidings many.
  2. "Why should I forgive you? Your children have forsaken me and sworn by gods that are not gods. I supplied all their needs, yet they committed adultery and thronged to the houses of prostitutes.
  3. They are well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for another man's wife.
  4. Should I not punish them for this?" declares the LORD. "Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?
  5. "Go through her vineyards and ravage them, but do not destroy them completely. Strip off her branches, for these people do not belong to the LORD.
  1. 그러므로 사자가 숲 속에서 뛰쳐 나와서, 그들을 물어 뜯을 것이다. 사막의 늑대가 그들을 찢어 죽일 것이다. 표범이 성읍마다 엿보고 있으니, 성 바깥으로 나오는 자마다 모두 찢겨 죽을 것이다. 그들의 죄가 아주 크고 하나님을 배반한 행위가 매우 크구나.
  2. "예루살렘아, 내가 너를 어떻게 용서하여 줄 수가 있겠느냐? 너의 자식들이 나를 버리고 떠나서, 신도 아닌 것들을 두고 맹세하여 섬겼다. 내가 그들을 배불리 먹여 놓았더니, 그들은 창녀의 집으로 몰려가서, 모두가 음행을 하였다.
  3. 그들은 살지고 정욕이 왕성한 숫말과 같이 되어서, 각기 이웃의 아내를 탐내어 울부짖는다.
  4. 이런 일을 내가 벌하지 않을 수가 있겠느냐? 나 주의 말이다. 이런 백성에게 내가 보복하지 않을 수가 있겠느냐?"
  5. "이스라엘의 대적들아, 너희는 저 언덕으로 올라가서 내 포도원을 망쳐 놓아라. 전멸시키지는 말고, 그 가지만 모두 잘라 버려라. 그것들은 이미 나 주의 것이 아니다.
  1. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly unfaithful to me," declares the LORD.
  2. They have lied about the LORD; they said, "He will do nothing! No harm will come to us; we will never see sword or famine.
  3. The prophets are but wind and the word is not in them; so let what they say be done to them."
  4. Therefore this is what the LORD God Almighty says: "Because the people have spoken these words, I will make my words in your mouth a fire and these people the wood it consumes.
  5. O house of Israel," declares the LORD, "I am bringing a distant nation against you-- an ancient and enduring nation, a people whose language you do not know, whose speech you do not understand.
  1. 이스라엘과 유다가 완전히 나를 배반하고 떠나갔다. 나 주의 말이다."
  2. 이 백성이 주님을 부인하며 말한다. "그는 아무것도 아니다. 어떤 재앙도 우리를 덮치지 않을 것이다. 우리는 전란이나 기근을 당하지 않을 것이다."
  3. "그러나 예레미야야, 이러한 예언자들에게는, 내가 아무런 예언도 준 일이 없다. 그들의 말은 허풍일 뿐이다."
  4. "그들이 그런 말을 하였으니, 보아라, 내가 너의 입에 있는 나의 말을 불이 되게 하고, 이 백성은 장작이 되게 하겠다. 불이 장작을 모두 태울 것이다." "그러므로 나 만군의 주 하나님이 말한다.
  5. 이스라엘 백성아, 내가 먼 곳에서 한 민족을 데려다가, 너희를 치게 하겠다. 나 주의 말이다. 그 민족은 강하며, 옛적부터 내려온 민족이다. 그 민족의 언어를 네가 알지 못하며, 그들이 말을 하여도 너는 알아듣지 못한다.
  1. Their quivers are like an open grave; all of them are mighty warriors.
  2. They will devour your harvests and food, devour your sons and daughters; they will devour your flocks and herds, devour your vines and fig trees. With the sword they will destroy the fortified cities in which you trust.
  3. "Yet even in those days," declares the LORD, "I will not destroy you completely.
  4. And when the people ask, 'Why has the LORD our God done all this to us?' you will tell them, 'As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your own land, so now you will serve foreigners in a land not your own.'
  5. "Announce this to the house of Jacob and proclaim it in Judah:
  1. 그들의 화살은 모두 열린 무덤과 같고, 그들은 모두 용사들이다.
  2. 네가 거둔 곡식과 너의 양식을 그들이 먹어 치우고, 너의 아들과 딸들도 그들이 죽이고, 너의 양 떼와 소 떼도 그들이 잡아먹고, 너의 포도와 무화과도 그들이 모두 먹어 치울 것이다. 네가 의지하고 있는 견고한 성들도 그들이 모두 칼로 무너뜨릴 것이다."
  3. "그러나 그럴 때에도, 내가 너희를 완전히 멸망시키지는 않겠다. 나 주의 말이다.
  4. 예레미야야, 그들이 '무엇 때문에 주 우리의 하나님께서 우리에게 이런 모든 일을 하셨는가?' 하고 너에게 물으면, 너는 그들에게 말하여 주어라. '너희가 너희 땅에서 나를 버리고 다른 신들을 섬겼으니, 이제는 너희가 남의 나라 땅에서 다른 나라 사람을 섬겨야 할 것이기 때문이다.'"
  5. "너는 이 말을 야곱의 자손에게 전하고, 유다 백성에게 들려주어라.
  1. Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear:
  2. Should you not fear me?" declares the LORD. "Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it.
  3. But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away.
  4. They do not say to themselves, 'Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.'
  5. Your wrongdoings have kept these away; your sins have deprived you of good.
  1. 이 어리석고 깨달을 줄 모르는 백성아, 눈이 있어도 볼 수가 없고, 귀가 있어도 들을 수가 없는 백성아, 너희는 이제 내가 하는 말을 잘 들어라.
  2. 너희는 내가 두렵지도 않으냐? 나 주의 말이다. 너희는 내 앞에서 떨리지도 않느냐? 나는 모래로 바다의 경계선을 만들어 놓고, 바다가 넘어설 수 없는 영원한 경계선을 그어 놓았다. 비록 바닷물이 출렁거려도 그 경계선을 없애지 못하고, 아무리 큰 파도가 몰아쳐도 그 경계선을 넘어설 수가 없다.
  3. 그러나 너희는 목이 곧아 고집이 세고 반역하는 백성이어서, 나에게서 돌아서서 멀리 떠나고 말았다.
  4. 너희는 마음 속으로라도 '주 우리의 하나님은 두려운 분이다. 그분은 제때에 비를 주고, 이른 비와 늦은 비를 철따라 내리며, 곡식을 거두는 일정한 시기를 정하여 주었다' 하고 말한 적이 없다.
  5. 바로 너희의 모든 죄악이 이러한 것들을 누리지 못하게 하였고, 너희의 온갖 범죄가 그 좋은 것들을 가로막아, 너희에게 이르지 못하게 하였다."
  1. "Among my people are wicked men who lie in wait like men who snare birds and like those who set traps to catch men.
  2. Like cages full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; they have become rich and powerful
  3. and have grown fat and sleek. Their evil deeds have no limit; they do not plead the case of the fatherless to win it, they do not defend the rights of the poor.
  4. Should I not punish them for this?" declares the LORD. "Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?
  5. "A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land:
  1. "나의 백성 가운데는 흉악한 사람들이 있어서, 마치 새 잡는 사냥꾼처럼, 허리를 굽히고 숨어 엎드리고, 수많은 곳에 덫을 놓아, 사람을 잡는다.
  2. 조롱에 새를 가득히 잡아넣듯이, 그들은 남을 속여서 빼앗은 재물로 자기들의 집을 가득 채워 놓았다. 그렇게 해서, 그들은 세도를 부리고, 벼락부자가 되었다.
  3. 그들은 피둥피둥 살이 찌고, 살에서 윤기가 돈다. 악한 짓은 어느 것 하나 못하는 것이 없고, 자기들의 잇속만 채운다. 고아의 억울한 사정을 올바르게 재판하지도 않고, 가난한 사람들의 권리를 지켜 주는 공정한 판결도 하지 않는다.
  4. 이런 일들을 내가 벌하지 않을 수 있겠느냐? 나 주의 말이다. 이러한 백성에게 내가 보복하지 않을 수 있겠느냐?"
  5. "지금 이 나라에서는, 놀랍고도 끔찍스러운 일들이 일어나고 있다.
  1. The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?
  1. 예언자들은 거짓으로 예언을 하며, 제사장들은 거짓 예언자들이 시키는 대로 다스리며, 나의 백성은 이것을 좋아하니, 마지막 때에 너희가 어떻게 하려느냐?"
 
  임박한 멸망(6:1-6:30)    
 
  1. "Flee for safety, people of Benjamin! Flee from Jerusalem! Sound the trumpet in Tekoa! Raise the signal over Beth Hakkerem! For disaster looms out of the north, even terrible destruction.
  2. I will destroy the Daughter of Zion, so beautiful and delicate.
  3. Shepherds with their flocks will come against her; they will pitch their tents around her, each tending his own portion."
  4. "Prepare for battle against her! Arise, let us attack at noon! But, alas, the daylight is fading, and the shadows of evening grow long.
  5. So arise, let us attack at night and destroy her fortresses!"
  1. "너희 베냐민 자손아, 예루살렘에서 도망쳐 나와서 피하여라. 너희는 드고아에서 나팔을 불고, 벳학게렘에서는 봉화불을 올려라. 재앙과 파멸이 북쪽에서 밀려온다.
  2. 딸 시온은 아름답고 곱게 자랐으나, 이제 내가 멸망시키겠다.
  3. 이방 왕들이 군대를 몰고 도성으로 접근하여, 성읍 사방에 진을 칠 것이다. 제각기 원하는 자리에 진을 칠 것이다.
  4. 그런 다음에, 이르기를 '모두 공격 준비를 하여라. 만반의 준비를 해 놓고 기다려라. 공격 개시 시각은 정오 정각이다' 하는구나. 그러다가 갑자기 야간 공격으로 바꾸면서 '너무 늦었다. 날이 저문다. 저녁 그림자가 점점 길어진다.
  5. 야간 공격을 해서 시온의 궁전들을 헐어 버리자!' 한다."
  1. This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Cut down the trees and build siege ramps against Jerusalem. This city must be punished; it is filled with oppression.
  2. As a well pours out its water, so she pours out her wickedness. Violence and destruction resound in her; her sickness and wounds are ever before me.
  3. Take warning, O Jerusalem, or I will turn away from you and make your land desolate so no one can live in it."
  4. This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Let them glean the remnant of Israel as thoroughly as a vine; pass your hand over the branches again, like one gathering grapes."
  5. To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the LORD is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.
  1. "나 만군의 주가 이미 적군에게 이렇게 명하였다. '너희는 나무를 모두 자르고, 예루살렘을 점령할 흙 언덕을 쌓아라. 예루살렘은 심판을 받아야 할 도성이다. 그 도성 안에서는 탄압이 자행되고 있다.
  2. 샘이 물을 솟구쳐 내듯이 그 도성은 죄악을 솟구쳐 내고 있다. 그 도성에서 들리는 것은 폭행과 파괴의 소리뿐이다. 나의 눈 앞에 언제나 보이는 것은, 병들고 상처 입은 사람들뿐이다.'
  3. 예루살렘아, 이 고난을 경고로 받아들여라. 그렇지 않으면, 나의 마음이 너에게서 떠나갈 것이다. 그래도 받아들이지 않으면, 내가 너를 황무지로 만들고, 아무도 살 수 없는 땅이 되게 하겠다."
  4. "나 만군의 주가 말한다. 농부가 포도나무에서 포도송이를 다 따내듯이, 적군이 이스라엘의 남은 자들을 샅샅이 뒤져서 끌어 갈 것이다. 그러니 예레미야야, 아직 시간이 있을 때에, 포도 따는 사람이 포도덩굴을 들추어보는 것처럼, 네가 구할 수 있는 사람들을 구해야 한다."
  5. 제가 말하고 경고한들 누가 제 말을 듣겠습니까? 그들은 귀가 막혀 주님의 말씀을 들을 수 없습니다. 주님께서 하신 말씀을 전하면 그들은 저를 비웃기만 합니다. 말씀 듣기를 좋아하지 않습니다.
  1. But I am full of the wrath of the LORD, and I cannot hold it in. "Pour it out on the children in the street and on the young men gathered together; both husband and wife will be caught in it, and the old, those weighed down with years.
  2. Their houses will be turned over to others, together with their fields and their wives, when I stretch out my hand against those who live in the land," declares the LORD.
  3. "From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit.
  4. They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. 'Peace, peace,' they say, when there is no peace.
  5. Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish them," says the LORD.
  1. 그들을 향하신 주님의 진노가 제 속에서도 부글부글 끓고 있어서, 제가 더 이상 주님의 진노를 품고 있을 수도 없습니다. "그러면 나의 분노를 길거리의 아이들에게 쏟아라. 젊은이들이 모인 곳에다가 쏟아라. 결혼한 남자들과 결혼한 여자들이 잡혀 갈 것이다. 청년이 잡혀 가고, 죽을 날을 기다리는 노인도 잡혀 갈 것이다.
  2. 그들의 집은 다른 사람들에게로 넘어가고, 밭과 아내들도 다 함께 다른 사람들의 차지가 될 것이다. 내가 손을 들어서 이 땅에 사는 사람들을 칠 것이기 때문이다. 나 주의 말이다."
  3. "힘 있는 자든 힘 없는 자든, 모두가 자기 잇속만을 채우며, 사기를 쳐서 재산을 모았다. 예언자와 제사장까지도 모두 한결같이 백성을 속였다.
  4. 백성이 상처를 입어 앓고 있을 때에, '괜찮다! 괜찮다!' 하고 말하지만, 괜찮기는 어디가 괜찮으냐?
  5. 그들이 그렇게 역겨운 일들을 하고도, 부끄러워하기라도 하였느냐? 천만에! 그들은 부끄러워하지도 않았고, 얼굴을 붉히지도 않았다. 그러므로 그들이 쓰러져서 시체더미를 이룰 것이다. 내가 그들에게 벌을 내릴 때에, 그들이 모두 쓰러져 죽을 것이다. 나 주의 말이다."
  1. This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, 'We will not walk in it.'
  2. I appointed watchmen over you and said, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!' But you said, 'We will not listen.'
  3. Therefore hear, O nations; observe, O witnesses, what will happen to them.
  4. Hear, O earth: I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not listened to my words and have rejected my law.
  5. What do I care about incense from Sheba or sweet calamus from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please me."
  1. "나 주가 말한다. 나는 너희에게 일렀다. 가던 길을 멈추어서 살펴보고, 옛길이 어딘지, 가장 좋은 길이 어딘지 물어 보고, 그 길로 가라고 하였다. 그러면 너희의 영혼이 평안히 쉴 곳을 찾을 것이라고 하였다. 그런데도 너희는 여전히 그 길로는 가지 않겠다고 하였다.
  2. 나는 또 너희를 지키려고 파수꾼들을 세워 놓고, 나팔 소리가 나거든 귀담아 들으라고 가르쳐 주었으나, 너희는 귀담아 듣지 않겠다고 하였다."
  3. "뭇 민족아, 들어라. 온 회중아, 똑똑히 알아 두어라. 내 백성에게 어떤 일이 일어날지를 보아라.
  4. 땅아, 너도 들어라. 내가 지금 이 백성에게 재앙을 내린다. 그들이 이처럼 사악한 생각을 하였으니, 이것은 그들이 받아 마땅한 벌이다. 그들이 나의 말을 귀담아 듣지 않으며, 나의 율법도 무시하였기 때문이다."
  5. "스바에서 들여 오는 향과 먼 땅에서 가져 오는 향료가, 나에게 무슨 소용이 있느냐? 너희가 바치는 온갖 번제물도 싫고, 온갖 희생제물도 마음에 들지 않는다."
  1. Therefore this is what the LORD says: "I will put obstacles before this people. Fathers and sons alike will stumble over them; neighbors and friends will perish."
  2. This is what the LORD says: "Look, an army is coming from the land of the north; a great nation is being stirred up from the ends of the earth.
  3. They are armed with bow and spear; they are cruel and show no mercy. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride on their horses; they come like men in battle formation to attack you, O Daughter of Zion."
  4. We have heard reports about them, and our hands hang limp. Anguish has gripped us, pain like that of a woman in labor.
  5. Do not go out to the fields or walk on the roads, for the enemy has a sword, and there is terror on every side.
  1. "그러므로 나 주가 말한다. 내가 이 백성 앞에 걸림돌들을 숨겨 놓아서, 모두 돌에 걸려 넘어지게 하겠다. 아버지와 아들이 다 함께 넘어지고, 이웃과 그 친구가 다 함께 멸망할 것이다."
  2. "나 주가 말한다. 한 백성이 북녘 땅에서 오고 있다. 큰 나라가 온다. 저 먼 땅에서 떨치고 일어났다.
  3. 그들은 활과 창으로 무장하였다. 난폭하고 잔인하다. 그들은 바다처럼 요란한 소리를 내며, 군마를 타고 달려온다. 딸 시온아, 그들은 전열을 갖춘 전사와 같이 너를 치러 온다."
  4. "우리는 그 소식을 듣고, 두 팔에 맥이 풀렸습니다. 해산의 진통을 하는 여인처럼 불안하여 괴로워합니다."
  5. "너희는 들녘으로 나가지도 말고, 거리에서 돌아다니지도 말아라. 너희의 원수가 칼로 무장하고 있으니, 너희의 사방에 공포가 있을 뿐이다."
  1. O my people, put on sackcloth and roll in ashes; mourn with bitter wailing as for an only son, for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.
  2. "I have made you a tester of metals and my people the ore, that you may observe and test their ways.
  3. They are all hardened rebels, going about to slander. They are bronze and iron; they all act corruptly.
  4. The bellows blow fiercely to burn away the lead with fire, but the refining goes on in vain; the wicked are not purged out.
  5. They are called rejected silver, because the LORD has rejected them."
  1. 나의 딸, 나의 백성아, 너는 굵은 베 옷을 허리에 두르고, 잿더미 속에서 뒹굴어라. 외아들을 잃은 어머니처럼 통곡하고, 슬피 울부짖어라. 멸망시키는 자가 갑자기 우리를 덮쳐 올 것이다.
  2. "예레미야야, 내 백성을 시험해 보아라. 금속을 시험하듯 시험해서 도대체 그들의 정체가 무엇인지 밝혀 보아라.
  3. 그들은 모두 반항하는 자들이다. 모함이나 하고 돌아다니며 마음이 완악하기가 놋쇠나 무쇠와 같다. 모두 속속들이 썩은 자들이다.
  4. 풀무질을 세게 하면, 불이 뜨거워져서 그 뜨거운 불 속에서 납이 녹으련만, 불순물도 없어지지 않으니, 금속을 단련하는 일이 헛수고가 되고 만다. 그들의 죄악이 도무지 제거되지 않는다.
  5. 이제 그들은, 불순물을 제거할 수 없는 '내버린 은'일 뿐이다. 나 주가 그들을 내버렸기 때문이다."
 
  경책(警責, 6:10)  경고하여 책망함.  
  심상히(尋常, 6:14)  ‘심각한 상태가 아닌 것처럼’이란 뜻으로, 여기서는 유다 백성이 죄를 가볍게 여겼다는 의미
