  1. Men do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.
  2. Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house.
  3. But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.
  4. Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away;
  5. for jealousy arouses a husband's fury, and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.
  1. Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
  2. But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
  3. But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
  4. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
  5. For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
  1. He will not accept any compensation; he will refuse the bribe, however great it is.
  1. He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

  1. My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
  2. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
  3. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
  4. Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinsman;
  5. they will keep you from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words.
  1. My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
  2. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
  3. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
  4. Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
  5. That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
