  1. The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming--not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
  2. If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.
  3. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins,
  4. because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
  5. Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me;
  1. For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
  2. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
  3. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
  4. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
  5. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
  1. with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.
  2. Then I said, 'Here I am--it is written about me in the scroll-- I have come to do your will, O God.' "
  3. First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made).
  4. Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second.
  5. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
  1. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
  2. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
  3. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
  4. Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
  5. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
  1. Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
  2. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.
  3. Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool,
  4. because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
  5. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:
  1. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
  2. But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
  3. From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
  4. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
  5. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
  1. "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds."
  2. Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."
  3. And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.
  1. This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
  2. And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
  3. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
