그러므로 남을 심판하는 사람은, 그가 누구이든지, 죄가 없다고 변명할 수 없습니다. 남을 심판하면서 똑같은 일을 하고 있으니, 결국 남을 심판하는 것은 바로 자기 스스로를 정죄하는 것입니다.
"우리는, 하나님의 심판이 이런 일을 하는 사람들에게 공정하게 내리신다는 것을 알고 있습니다."
이런 일을 하는 사람들을 심판하면서, 스스로 그런 일을 하는 사람이 있는데, 그런 사람이 하나님의 심판을 피할 수 있을 줄로 생각합니까?
더구나 하나님께서 인자하심을 베푸셔서 사람을 인도하여 회개하게 하신다는 것을 알지 못하고, 오히려 하나님의 풍성하신 인자하심과 관용하심과 오래 참으심을 업신여기기까지 한다니, 될 말입니까?
그런 사람은 완고한 마음과 회개하지 않는 마음을 가지고 있으므로, 하나님께서 진노를 터뜨려 의로운 심판을 하실 그 날을 앞에 두고, 자기가 받을 진노를 스스로 쌓아 올리고 있습니다.

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?
But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.

하나님께서는 "각 사람에게 그가 한 대로 갚아 주실 것입니다."
참으면서 선한 일을 하여 영광과 존귀와 불멸의 것을 구하는 사람에게는, 영원한 생명을 주시고,
이기심에 얽매여서 진리를 거스르고 불의를 따르는 사람에게는, 진노와 분을 내리실 것입니다.
악한 일을 하는 모든 사람에게는, 먼저 유대 사람을 비롯하여 그리스 사람에게 이르기까지, 환난과 고통이 있을 것이요,
선한 일을 하는 모든 사람에게는, 먼저 유대 사람을 비롯하여 그리스 사람에게 이르기까지, 영광과 존귀와 평강이 있을 것입니다.

God "will give to each person according to what he has done."
To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.
But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.
There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;
but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

하나님께서는 사람을 차별함이 없이 대하시기 때문입니다.
율법을 모르고 범죄한 사람은 율법과 상관없이 망할 것이요, 율법을 알고 범죄한 사람은 율법을 따라 심판을 받을 것입니다.
하나님 앞에서는 율법을 듣는 사람이 의로운 사람이 아닙니다. 오직 율법을 실천하는 사람이라야 의롭게 될 것이기 때문입니다.
율법을 가지지 않은 이방 사람이, 사람의 본성을 따라 율법이 명하는 바를 실천하면, 그들은 율법을 가지고 있지 않아도, 자기가 자기에게 율법이 됩니다.
그런 사람은, 율법이 요구하는 일이 자기의 마음에 적혀 있음을 드러내 보입니다. 그들의 양심도 이 사실을 증언합니다. 그들의 생각들이 서로 고발하기도 하고, 변호하기도 합니다.

For God does not show favoritism.
All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law,
since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)

이런 일은, 내가 전하는 복음대로, 하나님께서 그리스도를 내세우셔서 사람들이 감추고 있는 비밀들을 심판하실 그 날에 드러날 것입니다.
그런데 스스로 유대 사람이라고 하면서 율법을 의지하며, 하나님을 자랑하며,
그분의 뜻을 알며, 율법으로 가르침을 받아서 옳고 그른 것을 분간할 줄 안다고 자부하는 사람이 있습니다.
그런데 그런 사람일수록 스스로 눈먼 사람의 길잡이요 어둠 속에 있는 사람의 빛이라고 생각합니다.
율법에서 모든 지식과 진리의 근본을 터득하였다고 하면서, 스스로 어리석은 사람의 교사요 어린 아이의 선생으로 확신합니다.

This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to God;
if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;
if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark,
an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth--

그렇다면, 그런 사람이 남은 가르치면서도, 왜 자기 자신은 가르치지 않습니까? 도둑질을 하지 말라고 설교하면서도, 왜 도둑질을 합니까?
간음을 하지 말라고 하면서도, 왜 간음을 합니까? 우상을 미워하면서도, 왜 신전의 물건을 훔칩니까?
율법을 자랑하면서도, 왜 율법을 어겨서 하나님을 욕되게 합니까?
성경에 기록된 바 "너희 때문에 하나님의 이름이 이방 사람들 가운데서 모독을 받는다" 한 것과 같습니다.
율법을 지키면, 할례를 받은 것이 유익하지만, 율법을 어기면, 받은 할례는 할례를 받지 않은 것으로 되어 버립니다.

you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."
Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised.

그러므로 할례를 받지 않은 사람이 율법의 규정을 지키면, 할례를 받지 않아도 할례를 받은 것으로 여김받지 않겠습니까?
그리고 본래 할례를 받지 않은 사람이라도 율법을 온전히 지키는 사람은, 율법의 조문을 가지고 있고 할례를 받은 사람이면서도 율법을 지키지 않는 사람을 정죄할 것입니다.
겉모양으로 유대 사람이라고 해서 유대 사람이 아니요, 겉모양으로 살에다가 할례를 받았다고 해서 할례가 아닙니다.
오히려 속이 유대 사람인 사람이 유대 사람이며, 율법의 조문을 따라서가 아니라, 성령을 따라서 마음에 받는 할례가 참 할례입니다. 이런 사람은, 사람에게서가 아니라, 하나님에게서 칭찬을 받습니다.

If those who are not circumcised keep the law's requirements, will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised?
The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical.
No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.
