사사기 19:1-20:16

 에브라임 산지에 살던 한 레위인이 자신의 첩이 베냐민 지파의 비류들에게 윤간당하고 죽자 그 시체를 토막 내어 이스라엘 각처로 보냈다. 이 사건을 논의하기 위해 모인 이스라엘 총회는 베냐민 지파에게 비류들을 처벌하여 악을 제거할 것을 요구했으나 베냐민은 이를 거절했다.
  
  레위인의 첩 사건(19:1-19:30)    
 
  1. 이스라엘에 왕이 없던 때에, 한 레위 남자가 에브라임의 산골에 들어가서 살고 있었다. 그는 유다 땅의 베들레헴에서 한 여자를 첩으로 데려왔다.
  2. 그러나 무슨 일로 화가 난 그 여자는, 그를 떠나 유다 땅의 베들레헴에 있는 자기 친정 집으로 돌아가서, 넉 달 동안이나 머물러 있었다.
  3. 그래서 그 남편은 그 여자의 마음을 달래서 데려오려고, 자기의 종과 함께 나귀 두 마리를 끌어내어 길을 떠났다. 그 여자가 그를 자기 아버지의 집으로 데리고 들어가자, 그 젊은 여자의 아버지가 그를 보고 기쁘게 맞이하였다.
  4. 그의 장인 곧 그 젊은 여자의 아버지가 그를 붙들므로, 그는 사흘 동안 함께 지내며 먹고 마시면서, 거기에 머물러 있었다.
  5. 나흘째 되는 날, 그가 아침 일찍 깨어 떠나려고 일어서니, 그 젊은 여자의 아버지가 사위에게 말하였다. "빵을 좀 더 먹고서 속이 든든해지거든 떠나게."
  1. In those days Israel had no king. Now a Levite who lived in a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim took a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah.
  2. But she was unfaithful to him. She left him and went back to her father's house in Bethlehem, Judah. After she had been there four months,
  3. her husband went to her to persuade her to return. He had with him his servant and two donkeys. She took him into her father's house, and when her father saw him, he gladly welcomed him.
  4. His father-in-law, the girl's father, prevailed upon him to stay; so he remained with him three days, eating and drinking, and sleeping there.
  5. On the fourth day they got up early and he prepared to leave, but the girl's father said to his son-in-law, "Refresh yourself with something to eat; then you can go."
  1. 그래서 그들 두 사람은 또 앉아서 함께 먹고 마셨다. 그 젊은 여자의 아버지가 사위에게 말하였다. "부디 오늘 하룻밤 더 여기서 묵으면서 기분좋게 쉬게."
  2. 그 사람은 일어나 가려고 하였으나, 그의 장인이 권하여 다시 거기에서 하룻밤을 묵었다.
  3. 닷새째 되는 날 아침에 그가 일찍 일어나 떠나려고 하니, 그 젊은 여자의 아버지가 권하였다. "우선 속이 든든해지도록 무얼 좀 먹고 쉬었다가, 한낮을 피하여 천천히 떠나게." 그들 둘은 또 음식을 먹었다.
  4. 그 사람이 일어나 자기의 첩과 종을 데리고 떠나려고 하니, 그의 장인인 그 젊은 여자의 아버지가 그에게 권하였다. "자, 오늘은 이미 날이 저물어 가니, 하룻밤만 더 묵어 가게. 이제 날이 저물었으니, 여기서 머물면서 기분좋게 쉬고, 내일 아침 일찍 일어나서 길을 떠나, 자네의 집으로 가게."
  5. 그러나 그 사람은 하룻밤을 더 묵을 생각이 없어서, 일어나서 나귀 두 마리에 안장을 지우고, 첩과 함께 길을 떠나, 여부스의 맞은쪽에 이르렀다. （여부스는 곧 예루살렘이다.）
  1. So the two of them sat down to eat and drink together. Afterward the girl's father said, "Please stay tonight and enjoy yourself."
  2. And when the man got up to go, his father-in-law persuaded him, so he stayed there that night.
  3. On the morning of the fifth day, when he rose to go, the girl's father said, "Refresh yourself. Wait till afternoon!" So the two of them ate together.
  4. Then when the man, with his concubine and his servant, got up to leave, his father-in-law, the girl's father, said, "Now look, it's almost evening. Spend the night here; the day is nearly over. Stay and enjoy yourself. Early tomorrow morning you can get up and be on your way home."
  5. But, unwilling to stay another night, the man left and went toward Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), with his two saddled donkeys and his concubine.
  1. 그들이 여부스 가까이에 이르렀을 때에, 벌써 하루 해가 저물고 있었다. 그의 종이 주인에게 말하였다. "이제 발길을 돌려 여부스 사람의 성읍으로 들어가, 거기에서 하룻밤 묵어서 가시지요."

  5. 그들은 기브아에 들어가서 묵으려고 그리로 발길을 돌렸다. 그들이 들어가 성읍 광장에 앉았으나, 아무도 그들을 집으로 맞아들여 묵게 하는 사람이 없었다.
  1. When they were near Jebus and the day was almost gone, the servant said to his master, "Come, let's stop at this city of the Jebusites and spend the night."
  2. His master replied, "No. We won't go into an alien city, whose people are not Israelites. We will go on to Gibeah."
  3. He added, "Come, let's try to reach Gibeah or Ramah and spend the night in one of those places."
  4. So they went on, and the sun set as they neared Gibeah in Benjamin.
  5. There they stopped to spend the night. They went and sat in the city square, but no one took them into his home for the night.
  1. 마침 그 때에 해가 저물어 밭에서 일을 마치고 돌아오는 한 노인이 있었다. 그는 본래 에브라임 산간지방 사람인데, 그 때에 그는 기브아에서 살고 있었다. （기브아의 주민은 베냐민 자손이다.）
  2. 그 노인이 성읍 광장에 나그네들이 있는 것을 알아보고, 그들에게, 어디로 가는 길인지, 어디서 왔는지를 물었다.
  3. 레위 사람이 그에게 대답하였다. "우리는 유다 땅의 베들레헴에서 길을 떠나, 내가 사는 에브라임 산골로 가는 길입니다. 나는 유다 땅의 베들레헴에 갔다가 집으로 돌아가는 길인데, 이 곳에서는 아무도 나를 맞아들이는 사람이 없습니다.
  4. 우리에게는 나귀에게 먹일 먹이도 있고, 또 나와 나의 처와 종이 함께 먹을 빵과 포도주도 있습니다. 부족한 것이라고는 아무것도 없습니다."
  5. 노인이 말하였다. "잘 오셨소. 우리 집으로 갑시다. 내가 잘 돌보아 드리리다. 광장에서 밤을 새워서는 안 되지요."
  1. That evening an old man from the hill country of Ephraim, who was living in Gibeah (the men of the place were Benjamites), came in from his work in the fields.
  2. When he looked and saw the traveler in the city square, the old man asked, "Where are you going? Where did you come from?"
  3. He answered, "We are on our way from Bethlehem in Judah to a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim where I live. I have been to Bethlehem in Judah and now I am going to the house of the LORD. No one has taken me into his house.
  4. We have both straw and fodder for our donkeys and bread and wine for ourselves your servants--me, your maidservant, and the young man with us. We don't need anything."
  5. "You are welcome at my house," the old man said. "Let me supply whatever you need. Only don't spend the night in the square."
  1. 노인은 그들을 자기 집으로 데리고 들어가서 나귀에게 먹이를 주었다. 그들은 발을 씻고 나서, 먹고 마셨다.
  2. 그들이 한참 즐겁게 쉬고 있을 때에, 그 성읍의 불량한 사내들이 몰려와서, 그 집을 둘러싸고, 문을 두드리며, 집 주인인 노인에게 소리질렀다. "노인의 집에 들어온 그 남자를 끌어내시오. 우리가 그 사람하고 관계를 좀 해야겠소."
  3. 그러자 주인 노인이 밖으로 나가서 그들에게 말하였다. "여보시오, 젊은이들, 제발 이러지 마시오. 이 사람은 우리 집에 온 손님이니, 그에게 악한 일을 하지 마시오. 제발 이런 수치스러운 일을 하지 마시오.
  4. 여기 처녀인 내 딸과 그 사람의 첩을 내가 끌어내다 줄 터이니, 그들을 데리고 가서 당신들 좋을 대로 하시오. 그러나 이 남자에게만은 그런 수치스러운 일을 하지 마시오."
  5. 그러나 그 불량배들은 노인의 말을 들으려 하지 않았다. 그래서 그 레위 사람은 자기 첩을 밖으로 내보내어 그 남자들에게 주었다. 그러자 그 남자들이 밤새도록 그 여자를 윤간하여 욕보인 뒤에, 새벽에 동이 틀 때에야 놓아 주었다.
  1. So he took him into his house and fed his donkeys. After they had washed their feet, they had something to eat and drink.
  2. While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, "Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him."
  3. The owner of the house went outside and said to them, "No, my friends, don't be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don't do this disgraceful thing.
  4. Look, here is my virgin daughter, and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But to this man, don't do such a disgraceful thing."
  5. But the men would not listen to him. So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go.
  1. 동이 트자, 그 여자는, 자기 남편이 있는 그 노인의 집으로 돌아와, 문에 쓰러져서, 아침이 밝아올 때까지 거기에 있었다.
  2. 그 여자의 남편이 아침에 일어나서, 그 집의 문을 열고 떠나려고 나와 보니, 자기 첩인 그 여자가 두 팔로 문지방을 잡고 문간에 쓰러져 있었다.
  3. 일어나서 같이 가자고 말하였으나, 아무 대답이 없었다. 그는 그 여자의 주검을 나귀에 싣고, 길을 떠나 자기 고장으로 갔다.
  4. 집에 들어서자마자 칼을 가져다가, 첩의 주검을 열두 토막을 내고, 이스라엘 온 지역으로 그것을 보냈다.
  5. 그것을 보는 사람들마다 이구 동성으로 말하였다. "이스라엘 자손이 이집트에서 나온 날부터 오늘까지 이런 일은 일어난 적도 없고, 또 본 일도 없다. 이 일을 깊이 생각하여 보고 의논한 다음에, 의견을 말하기로 하자."
  1. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight.
  2. When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold.
  3. He said to her, "Get up; let's go." But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.
  4. When he reached home, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel.
  5. Everyone who saw it said, "Such a thing has never been seen or done, not since the day the Israelites came up out of Egypt. Think about it! Consider it! Tell us what to do!"
 
  이스라엘의 결의(20:1-20:16)    
 
  1. 그리하여 북쪽의 단에서부터 남쪽의 브엘세바에 이르기까지, 또 동쪽의 길르앗 땅에서도, 모든 이스라엘 자손이 쏟아져 나와서, 온 회중이 한꺼번에 미스바에서 주님 앞에 모였다.
  2. 이 때에 온 백성 곧 이스라엘 온 지파의 지도자들도 하나님의 백성의 총회에 참석하였다. 칼을 찬 보병도 사십만 명이나 모였다.
  3. 베냐민 자손은 모든 이스라엘 자손이 미스바로 올라왔다는 소식을 들었다. 그 때에 이스라엘 자손이 그 레위 사람에게 물었다. "이런 수치스러운 일이 어떻게 일어났는지 말하여 보시오."
  4. 그러자 죽은 여자의 남편인 그 레위 사람이 대답하였다. "나는 첩을 데리고 베냐민 사람의 땅에 있는 기브아로 간 적이 있습니다. 하룻밤을 묵을 셈이었습니다.
  5. 그 날 밤에 기브아 사람들이 몰려와서, 나를 해치려고, 내가 묵고 있던 집을 둘러쌌습니다. 그들은 나를 죽이려 하였으나, 나 대신에 내 첩을 폭행하여, 그가 죽었습니다.
  1. Then all the Israelites from Dan to Beersheba and from the land of Gilead came out as one man and assembled before the LORD in Mizpah.
  2. The leaders of all the people of the tribes of Israel took their places in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand soldiers armed with swords.
  3. (The Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) Then the Israelites said, "Tell us how this awful thing happened."
  4. So the Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, said, "I and my concubine came to Gibeah in Benjamin to spend the night.
  5. During the night the men of Gibeah came after me and surrounded the house, intending to kill me. They raped my concubine, and she died.
  1. 내가 나의 첩의 주검을 토막 내어 이스라엘이 유산으로 받은 모든 지역으로 보낸 것은, 그들이 이스라엘에서 이처럼 음란하고 수치스러운 일을 하였기 때문입니다.
  2. 여러분은 모두 이스라엘 자손이 아니십니까? 이제 여러분의 생각과 대책을 내놓으십시오!"
  3. 그러자 모든 사람이 한꺼번에 일어나서 외쳤다. "우리 가운데서 한 사람도 자기 장막으로 가서는 안 된다. 아무도 집으로 돌아가서는 안 된다.
  4. 이제 기브아 사람들에게 우리가 할 일은 이렇다. 제비를 뽑아 그들을 치자.
  5. 이스라엘의 모든 지파에서 백 명마다 열 명을, 천 명마다 백 명을, 만 명마다 천 명을 뽑아서, 그들에게 군인들이 먹을 양식을 마련하게 하고, 군인들은 베냐민 땅에 있는 기브아로 가서, 기브아 사람이 이스라엘 안에서 저지른 이 모든 수치스러운 일을 벌하게 하자."
  1. I took my concubine, cut her into pieces and sent one piece to each region of Israel's inheritance, because they committed this lewd and disgraceful act in Israel.
  2. Now, all you Israelites, speak up and give your verdict."
  3. All the people rose as one man, saying, "None of us will go home. No, not one of us will return to his house.
  4. But now this is what we'll do to Gibeah: We'll go up against it as the lot directs.
  5. We'll take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred from a thousand, and a thousand from ten thousand, to get provisions for the army. Then, when the army arrives at Gibeah in Benjamin, it can give them what they deserve for all this vileness done in Israel."
  1. 그리하여 모든 이스라엘 사람이 하나같이 뭉쳐서, 그 성읍을 치려고 모였다.
  2. 이스라엘의 지파들이 베냐민 온 지파에게 사람을 보내어, 이렇게 말을 전하였다. "당신들 가운데서 이런 악한 일이 일어나다니, 어찌 된 일이오?
  3. 그러니 당신들은 이제 기브아에 있는 그 불량배들을 우리 손에 넘겨서, 우리가 그들을 죽여 이스라엘에서 이런 악한 일을 없애게 하시오." 그러나 베냐민 자손은 그들의 친족인 이스라엘 자손의 말을 들으려 하지 않았다.
  4. 오히려 베냐민 자손은 이스라엘 자손과 싸우러 나가려고, 모든 성읍에서 기브아로 모여들었다.
  5. 그 날에 모여든 베냐민 자손은, 기브아의 주민들 가운데서 뽑은 칠백 명 외에도, 각 성읍에서 나온, 칼을 쓸 줄 아는 사람 이만 육천 명이 합세하였다.
  1. So all the men of Israel got together and united as one man against the city.
  2. The tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, "What about this awful crime that was committed among you?
  3. Now surrender those wicked men of Gibeah so that we may put them to death and purge the evil from Israel." But the Benjamites would not listen to their fellow Israelites.
  4. From their towns they came together at Gibeah to fight against the Israelites.
  5. At once the Benjamites mobilized twenty-six thousand swordsmen from their towns, in addition to seven hundred chosen men from those living in Gibeah.
  1. 이 모든 사람 가운데서 뽑힌 칠백 명 왼손잡이들은, 무릿매로 돌을 던져 머리카락도 빗나가지 않고 맞히는 사람들이었다.
  1. Among all these soldiers there were seven hundred chosen men who were left-handed, each of whom could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.
