- 가이사랴에 고넬료라는 사람이 있었는데, 그는 이탈리아 부대라는 로마 군대의 백부장이었다.
- 그는 경건한 사람으로 온 가족과 더불어 하나님을 두려워하며, 유대 백성에게 자선을 많이 베풀며, 늘 하나님께 기도하는 사람이었다.
- 어느 날 오후 세 시쯤에, 그는 환상 가운데에서 하나님의 천사를 똑똑히 보았다. 그가 보니, 천사가 자기에게로 들어와서, "고넬료야!" 하고 말을 하는 것이었다.
- 고넬료가 천사를 주시하여 보고, 두려워서 물었다. "천사님, 무슨 일입니까?" 천사가 대답하였다. "네 기도와 자선 행위가 하나님 앞에 상달되어서, 하나님께서 기억하고 계신다.
- 이제, 욥바로 사람을 보내어, 베드로라고도 하는 시몬이라는 사람을 데려오너라.

- There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
- A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
- He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
- And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
- And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

- 그는 무두장이인 시몬의 집에 묵고 있는데, 그 집은 바닷가에 있다."
- 그에게 말하던 천사가 떠났을 때에, 고넬료는 하인 두 사람과 자기 부하 가운데서 경건한 병사 하나를 불러서,
- 모든 일을 이야기해 주고, 그들을 욥바로 보냈다.
- 이튿날 저들이 길을 가다가, 욥바에 가까이 이르렀을 때에, 베드로는 기도하려고 지붕으로 올라갔다. 때는 오정쯤이었다.
- 그는 배가 고파서, 무엇을 좀 먹었으면 하는 생각이 들었다. 사람들이 음식을 장만하는 동안에, 베드로는 황홀경에 빠져 들어갔다.

- He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
- And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
- And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
- On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
- And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

- 그는, 하늘이 열리고, 큰 보자기 같은 그릇이 네 귀퉁이가 끈에 매달려서 땅으로 드리워져 내려오는 것을 보았다.
- 그 안에는 온갖 네 발 짐승들과 땅에 기어다니는 것들과 공중의 새들이 골고루 들어 있었다.
- 그 때에 "베드로야, 일어나서 잡아먹어라" 하는 음성이 들려왔다.
- 베드로가 대답하였다. "주님, 절대로 그럴 수 없습니다. 나는 속되고 부정한 것은 한 번도 먹은 일이 없습니다."
- 그랬더니 두 번째로 음성이 다시 들려왔다. "하나님께서 깨끗하게 하신 것을 속되다고 하지 말아라."

- And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
- Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
- And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
- But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
- And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

- 이런 일이 세 번 있은 뒤에, 그 그릇은 갑자기 하늘로 들려서 올라갔다.
- 베드로가, 자기가 본 환상이 대체 무슨 뜻일까 하면서, 속으로 어리둥절하고 있는데, 마침 고넬료가 보낸 사람들이 시몬의 집을 찾아서, 문 앞에 다가섰다.
- 그들은 큰 소리로 베드로라는 시몬이 여기에 묵고 있는지를 묻고 있었다.
- 베드로가 그 환상을 곰곰이 생각하고 있는데 성령께서 말씀하셨다. "보아라, 세 사람이 너를 찾고 있다.
- 일어나서 내려가거라. 그들은 내가 보낸 사람들이니, 의심하지 말고 함께 가거라."

- This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
- Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
- And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
- While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
- Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

- 그래서 베드로는 그들에게 내려가서 물었다. "보시오, 내가 당신들이 찾고 있는 사람이오. 무슨 일로 오셨소?"
- 그들은 베드로에게 대답하였다. "고넬료라는 백부장이 보내서 왔습니다. 그는 의로운 사람이요, 하나님을 두려워하는 사람입니다. 그는 온 유대 백성에게 존경을 받고 있습니다. 그는, 사람을 보내어 당신을 집으로 모셔다가 말씀을 들으라는 지시를, 거룩한 천사에게서 받았습니다."
- 베드로는 그들을 불러들여서 묵게 하였다. 이튿날 베드로는 일어나서 그들과 함께 떠났는데, 욥바에 있는 신도 몇 사람도 그와 함께 갔다.

- Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
- And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
- Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
