- 내가 자유인이 아닙니까? 내가 사도가 아닙니까? 내가 우리 주 예수를 뵙지 못하였습니까? 여러분은 주님 안에서 내가 일해서 얻은 열매가 아닙니까?
- 다른 사람들에게는 내가 사도가 아닐지 몰라도, 여러분에게는 사도입니다. 여러분은 주님 안에서 나의 사도직을 보증하는 표입니다.
- 나를 비판하는 사람들에게 이렇게 답변합니다.
- 우리에게 먹고 마실 권리가 없습니까?
- 우리에게는 다른 사도들이나 주님의 동생들이나 게바처럼, 믿는 자매인 아내를 데리고 다닐 권리가 없단 말입니까?

- Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?
- If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
- Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,
- Have we not power to eat and to drink?
- Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

- 나와 바나바에게만은 노동하지 않을 권리가 없단 말입니까?
- 자기 비용으로 군에 복무하는 사람이 어디에 있습니까? 포도원을 만들고 그 열매를 따먹지 않는 사람이 어디에 있습니까? 양 떼를 치고 그 젖을 짜 먹지 않는 사람이 어디에 있습니까?
- 내가 사람의 관례에만 의거하여 이런 말을 하는 줄 아십니까? 율법에도 이런 말이 있지 않습니까?
- 모세의 율법에 기록하기를 "타작 일을 하는 소에게 망을 씌우지 말아라" 하였습니다. 하나님께서 소를 걱정하신 것입니까?
- 그렇지 않으면, 우리 모두를 위하여 말씀하신 것입니까? 그것은 우리를 위하여 하신 말씀입니다. 밭을 가는 사람은 마땅히 희망을 가지고서 밭을 갈고, 타작을 하는 사람은 한 몫을 얻으리라는 희망을 가지고 그 일을 합니다.

- Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
- Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
- Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
- For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
- Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

- 우리가 여러분에게 영적인 것으로 씨를 뿌렸으면, 여러분에게서 물질적인 것으로 거둔다고 해서, 그것이 지나친 일이겠습니까?
- 다른 사람들이 여러분에게 이런 권리를 가졌다면, 하물며 우리는 더욱 그러하지 않겠습니까? 그러나 우리는 이런 권리를 쓰지 않았습니다. 우리는 그리스도의 복음을 전하는 일에 지장을 주지 않도록, 모든 것을 참습니다.
- 성전에서 일하는 사람은 성전에서 나는 것을 먹고, 제단을 맡아보는 사람은 제단 제물을 나누어 가진다는 것을, 여러분은 알지 못합니까?
- 이와 같이 주님께서도, 복음을 전하는 사람들에게는 복음을 전하는 일로 살아가라고 지시하셨습니다.
- 그러나 나는 이런 권리를 조금도 행사하지 아니하였습니다. 또 나에게 그렇게 하여 달라고 이 말을 쓰는 것도 아닙니다. 그렇게 하느니, 차라리 내가 죽는 편이 낫겠습니다. 아무도 나의 이 자랑거리를 헛되게 하지 못할 것입니다.

- If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
- If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
- Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
- Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
- But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

- 내가 복음을 전할지라도, 그것이 나에게 자랑거리가 될 수 없습니다. 나는 어쩔 수 없이 그것을 해야만 합니다. 내가 복음을 전하지 않으면, 나에게 화가 미칠 것입니다.
- 내가 자진해서 이 일을 하면 삯을 받을 것입니다. 그러나 내가 마지못해서 하면, 직무를 따라 한 것입니다.
- 그리하면 내가 받을 삯은 무엇이겠습니까? 그것은, 내가 복음을 전할 때에 값없이 전하고, 복음을 전하는 데에 따르는 나의 권리를 이용하지 않는다는 그 사실입니다.

- For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
- For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
- What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
