- 아이들아, 네가 이웃을 도우려고 담보를 서거나, 남의 딱한 사정을 듣고 보증을 선다면,
- 네가 한 그 말에 네가 걸려 들고, 네가 한 그 말에 네가 잡힌다.
- 아이들아, 네가 너의 이웃의 손에 잡힌 것이니, 어서 그에게 가서 풀어 달라고 겸손히 간청하여라. 너는 이렇게 하여 자신을 구하여라.
- 잠을 자지도 말고, 졸지도 말고
- 노루가 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나듯, 새가 새 잡는 사람의 손에서 벗어나듯, 어서 벗어나서 너 자신을 구하여라.

- My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
- Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
- Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
- Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
- Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

- 게으른 사람아, 개미에게 가서, 그들이 사는 것을 살펴보고 지혜를 얻어라.
- 개미는 우두머리도 없고 지휘관도 없고 통치자도 없지만,
- 여름 동안 양식을 마련하고, 추수 때에 먹이를 모아 둔다.
- 게으른 사람아, 언제까지 누워 있으려느냐? 언제 잠에서 깨어 일어나려느냐?
- "조금만 더 자야지, 조금만 더 눈을 붙여야지, 조금만 더 팔을 베고 누워 있어야지"하면,

- Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
- Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
- Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
- How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
- Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

- 네게 가난이 강도처럼 들이닥치고, 빈곤이 방패로 무장한 용사처럼 달려들 것이다.

- So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
