- 임멜의 아들로서, 제사장이면서 주님의 성전에서 총감독으로 일하는 바스훌이, 이렇게 예언하는 예레미야의 모든 말을 듣고서,
- 예언자 예레미야를 때리고, 그에게 차꼬를 채워서 주님의 성전 위쪽 '베냐민 대문' 근처에다가 가두었다.
- 다음날 아침에 바스훌이 예레미야의 차꼬를 풀어 줄 때에, 예레미야가 그에게 이렇게 말하였다. "주님께서 이제는 당신의 이름을 바스훌이라 부르시지 않고, 마골밋사빕이라고 부르실 것이오.
- 당신을 두고, 주님께서 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨소. '내가 너를 너와 네 모든 친구에게 두려움이 되게 할 것이니, 너는 네 친구들이 원수의 칼에 찔려 쓰러지는 것을 네 눈으로 직접 볼 것이다. 또 내가 유다 백성을 모두 바빌로니아 왕의 손에 넘겨 주면, 그 왕은 백성을 더러는 바빌로니아로 사로잡아 가고, 더러는 칼로 죽일 것이다.
- 또 내가 이 도성의 모든 재물과 그 모든 재산과 그 모든 귀중품과 유다 왕들의 모든 보물을 원수의 손에 넘겨 주어서, 그들이 모두 약탈하고 탈취하여, 바빌로니아로 가져 가게 하겠다.

- Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.
- Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.
- And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib.
- For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.
- Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

- 그리고 바스훌아, 너와 네 집에 사는 모든 사람은 포로가 되어서, 바빌로니아로 끌려갈 것이니, 너는 네 거짓 예언을 들은 네 모든 친구와 함께 거기에서 죽어, 그 곳에 묻힐 것이다.'"
- 주님, 주님께서 나를 속이셨으므로, 내가 주님께 속았습니다. 주님께서는 나보다 더 강하셔서 나를 이기셨으므로, 내가 조롱거리가 되니, 사람들이 날마다 나를 조롱합니다.
- 내가 입을 열어 말을 할 때마다 '폭력'을 고발하고 '파멸'을 외치니, 주님의 말씀 때문에, 나는 날마다 치욕과 모욕거리가 됩니다.
- '이제는 주님을 말하지 않겠다. 다시는 주님의 이름으로 외치지 않겠다' 하고 결심하여 보지만, 그 때마다, 주님의 말씀이 나의 심장 속에서 불처럼 타올라 뼛속에까지 타들어 가니, 나는 견디다 못해 그만 항복하고 맙니다.
- 수많은 사람이 수군거리는 소리를 나는 들었습니다. '예레미야가 겁에 질려 있다. 너희는 그를 고발하여라. 우리도 그를 고발하겠다' 합니다. 나와 친하던 사람들도 모두 내가 넘어지기만을 기다립니다. '혹시 그가 실수를 하기라도 하면, 우리가 그를 덮치고 그에게 보복을 하자' 합니다.

- And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.
- O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.
- For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.
- Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
- For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

- 그러나 주님, 주님은 내 옆에 계시는 힘센 용사이십니다. 그러므로 나를 박해하는 사람들이, 힘도 쓰지 못하고 쓰러질 것입니다. 이처럼 그들이 실패해서, 그들은 영원히 잊지 못할 큰 수치를 당할 것입니다.
- 만군의 주님, 주님은 의로운 사람을 시험하시고, 생각과 마음을 감찰하시는 분이십니다. 내 억울한 사정을 주님께 아뢰었으니, 주님께서 그들에게 내 원수를 갚아 주십시오. 내가 그것을 보기를 원합니다.
- "주님께 노래하여라! 주님을 찬양하여라! 주님께서는 억압받는 사람들을 악인들의 권세에서 건져 주신다."
- 내가 태어난 날이 저주를 받았어야 했는데. 어머니가 나를 낳은 날이 복된 날이 되지 말았어야 했는데.
- 나의 아버지에게 '아들입니다, 아들!' 하고 소식을 전하여, 아버지를 기쁘게 한 그 사람도 저주를 받았어야 했는데.

- But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
- But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.
- Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.
- Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.
- Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

- 바로 그 사람은 주님께서 사정없이 뒤엎어 놓으신 성읍들처럼 되어서, 아침에는 울부짖는 고통 소리를 듣고, 대낮에는 전쟁의 함성을 들었어야 했는데.
- 내가 모태에서 죽어, 어머니가 나의 무덤이 되었어야 했는데, 내가 영원히 모태 속에 있었어야 했는데.
- 어찌하여 이 몸이 모태에서 나와서, 이처럼 고난과 고통을 겪고, 나의 생애를 마치는 날까지 이러한 수모를 받는가!

- And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;
- Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.
- Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
