에스겔 16:23-17:24

 하나님께서는 예루살렘의 죄악을 지적하시며 이로 인해 예루살렘이 수치를 당할 것이라고 말씀하셨다. 그러나 하나님의 은혜를 깨닫게 된 유다 백성들은 다시 회복시키고 그들과 영원한 언약을 세우시겠다고 약속하셨다. 또한 시드기야를 포도나무에, 느부갓네살 왕을 독수리에 비유하여 시드기야가 하나님의 명령을 어기고 바벨론을 배반하였기 때문에 유다가 멸망하게 될 것이라고 경고하셨다.
  
  유다에 임할 심판(16:23-16:63)    
 
  1. "나 주 하나님의 말이다. 네게 재앙이 닥친다. 재앙이 닥친다. 네가 그 모든 악행을 저지른 다음에도
  2. 너는, 길거리마다 네가 올라갈 누각을 짓고, 네가 누울 높은 단을 만들었다.
  3. 너는, 길 머리마다 높은 단을 만들어 놓고, 네 아름다움을 흉측하게 더럽히고, 지나가는 모든 남자에게 네 두 다리를 벌려, 음행을 많이 하였다.
  4. 너는, 이집트 남자들 곧 하체가 큰 이웃 나라 남자들과 음행을 하였다. 너는, 수도 없이 아주 음란하게 음행을 하여, 내 분노를 터뜨렸다.
  5. 그러므로 내가 내 손을 펴서 너를 치고, 네가 날마다 먹을 양식을 줄이고, 또 너를 미워하는 블레셋 여자들 곧 네 추잡한 행실을 보고 역겨워하는 여자들에게 너를 넘겨 주어서, 마음대로 하게 하였다.
  1. And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the LORD GOD;)
  2. That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street.
  3. Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms.
  4. Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger.
  5. Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way.
  1. 그런데도 너는 음욕이 차지 않아서, 앗시리아 남자들과 음행을 하였다. 그들과 음행을 한 다음에도 네 음욕이 차지 않아서,
  2. 너는 저 장사하는 나라 바빌로니아 남자들과 더 많이 음행을 하였다. 그래도 너의 음욕은 차지 않았다.
  3. 나 주 하나님의 말이다. 네가 방자한 창녀와 똑같이 이 모든 일을 했으면서도, 너는 마음이 왜 그렇게 약하냐!
  4. 네가 길 머리마다 높은 단을 만들어 놓고, 길거리마다 누각을 세워 놓고, 몸을 팔면서도, 네가 화대를 받지 않으니, 너는 창녀와 같지도 않구나!
  5. 너는 제 남편이 아닌 다른 남자들과 간통하는 음란한 유부녀로구나.
  1. Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.
  2. Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied therewith.
  3. How weak is thine heart, saith the LORD GOD, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman;
  4. In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire;
  5. But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!
  1. 창녀들은 화대를 받는 법이다. 그러나 너는 네 모든 정부에게 선물을 주어 가며 사방에서 불러다가, 너와 음행을 하자고, 남자들에게 돈까지 주었다.
  2. 이렇게 너는 다른 여자들과는 정반대로 음행을 하였다. 정부들이 너를 따라다니는 것도 아니고, 네가 몸값을 받는 것도 아니고, 오히려 네가 몸값을 주어 가면서 음행을 하니, 너는 다른 여자들과는 정반대다."
  3. "그러므로 창녀야, 너는 나 주의 말을 들어라.
  4. 나 주 하나님이 말한다. 네가 정부들과 음행을 하고, 네 모든 역겨운 우상과 음행을 할 때에, 너는 재산을 쏟아 붓고, 네 벗은 몸을 드러내었다. 너는 온갖 가증한 우상들에게 네 자식들의 피를 바쳤다.
  5. 그러므로 네가 함께 즐기던 네 정부들과 네가 좋아하던 모든 남자뿐 아니라, 네가 미워하던 남자도, 내가 모두 모아서 너를 치게 하겠다. 내가 그들을 사방에서 모아 너를 치게 하고, 네 벌거벗은 몸을 드러내 놓아, 그들이 모두 네 벌거벗은 몸을 보게 하겠다.
  1. They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom.
  2. And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.
  3. Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD:
  4. Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto them;
  5. Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.
  1. 그리고 나는 너를, 간음을 하고 살인을 한 여인을 재판하듯이 재판하며, 내 분노와 질투로 네게 살인죄의 벌을 내리겠다.
  2. 내가 너를 그들의 손에 넘겨 주면, 그들이 네 누각을 헐고, 네 높은 단을 무너뜨릴 것이며, 네 옷을 벗겨 버리고, 네 모든 장식품을 빼앗은 다음에, 너를 벌거벗겨 알몸으로 버려 둘 것이다.
  3. 그들은 너를 대항하여 한 무리를 끌고 와서 너를 돌로 치고, 칼로 찔러 죽일 것이다.
  4. 그들은 네 집을 불사르고, 많은 여인이 보는 앞에서 너에게 벌을 내릴 것이다. 내가 이렇게 네 음행을 끝장 내서, 네가 다시는 그들에게 선물을 줄 수 없게 하겠다.
  5. 그제야 너에 대한 내 분이 풀리고, 내 질투가 사그라지고, 마음이 평온해져서, 다시는 화를 내지 않게 될 것이다.
  1. And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.
  2. And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.
  3. They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.
  4. And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more.
  5. So will I make my fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.
  1. 네가 어린 시절을 기억하지 않고, 이 모든 일로 내 분노를 터뜨려 놓았으니, 나도 네 행실대로 네게 그대로 갚을 것이니, 네가 다시는 역겨운 우상을 섬기는 일에다가 음행까지 더하는 일을 하지 못할 것이다. 나 주 하나님의 말이다."
  2. "사람들마다 너를 비꼬아서 '그 어머니에 그 딸'이라는 속담을 말할 것이다.
  3. 네가 바로 남편과 자식들을 미워하던 네 어머니의 딸이며, 네가 바로 남편과 자녀들을 미워하던 네 언니들의 동생이다. 너희의 어머니는 헷 사람이며, 아버지는 아모리 사람이다.
  4. 그리고 네 언니는 그 딸들을 데리고 북쪽에 사는 사마리아이고, 네 동생은 딸들을 데리고 남쪽에 사는 소돔이다.
  5. 너는, 그들의 행실만을 따라 가거나 그들의 역겨운 일들만을 따라 하는 것만이 아니라, 그것도 오히려 부족한 듯이, 네 모든 행실이 그들보다 더 타락하였다.
  1. Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will recompense thy way upon thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness above all thine abominations.
  2. Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.
  3. Thou art thy mother's daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
  4. And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.
  5. Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.
  1. 나 주 하나님의 말이다. 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세한다. 네 동생 소돔 곧 그와 그 딸들은 너와 네 딸들처럼 행동하지는 않았다.
  2. 네 동생 소돔의 죄악은 이러하다. 소돔과 그의 딸들은 교만하였다. 또 양식이 많아서 배부르고 한가하여 평안하게 살면서도, 가난하고 못 사는 사람들의 손을 붙잡아 주지 않았다.
  3. 오히려 그들은 교만하였으며, 내 눈 앞에서 역겨운 일을 하였다. 그러므로 내가 그것을 보고는, 그들을 없애 버렸다.
  4. 사마리아는 네가 저지른 모든 죄의 반 만큼도 죄를 짓지 않았다. 네가 그들보다 역겨운 일들을 더 많이 하였기 때문에, 네가 저지른 그 온갖 역겨운 일들로, 너는 네 언니와 아우의 죄가 없는 것처럼 보이게 하였다.
  5. 네가 네 언니와 아우보다 더 역겨운 죄를 지으므로, 네 언니와 아우가 유리한 판단을 받았으니, 너는 마땅한 수치를 당해야 할 것이다. 너 때문에 그들이 의로운 것처럼 보이게 되었다. 네가 이렇게 네 언니와 아우를 의롭게 보이게 하였으니, 너도 부끄러운 줄 알아라. 네가 마땅한 수치를 당할 것이다."
  1. As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
  2. Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
  3. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
  4. Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
  5. Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
  1. "내가 그들을 다시 잘 살게 해주겠다. 소돔과 그 딸들을 다시 잘 살게 해주고, 사마리아와 그 딸들을 다시 잘 살게 해주겠다. 또 내가 그들과 함께 너도 다시 잘 살게 해주겠다.
  2. 그제야 너는 네 치욕을 감당하고, 네가 저지른 모든 죄를 부끄러운 줄 알게 될 것이다. 네 언니와 아우는 네가 당하는 수치를 보고, 자신들이 얼마나 유복한지를 알게 될 것이다.
  3. 네 아우 소돔과 그 딸들이 예전 상태로 회복되고, 네 언니 사마리아와 그 딸들이 예전 상태로 회복될 때에, 너와 네 딸들도 예전 상태로 회복될 것이다.
  4. 네가 교만하던 시절에는, 네가 네 아우 소돔의 추문을 들을 때에 그를 비웃었다.
  5. 그러나 그것은 네 죄악이 드러나기 전에 있었던 일이다. 오히려 이제는 네가 그들의 놀림감이 되었다. 사방에서 너를 멸시하는 사람들 곧 에돔의 딸들과 그 모든 이웃이 너를 비웃고, 블레셋 딸들이 너를 조롱한다.
  1. When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them:
  2. That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.
  3. When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.
  4. For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,
  5. Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise thee round about.
  1. 네가 음행을 저지르고, 또 그처럼 역겨운 일들을 저질렀으니, 그 벌을 면할 것이라고는 생각하지 말아라. 나 주의 말이다."
  2. "나 주 하나님이 말한다. 너는, 네가 한 맹세를 하찮게 여겨, 그 언약을 깼으니, 나도 네가 한 것과 똑같이 너에게 하겠다.
  3. 그러나 나는 네 젊은 시절에 내가 너와 맺은 언약을 기억해서, 너와 영원한 언약을 세우겠다.
  4. 비록 이것은 너와 나 사이에 세운 언약 속에 들어 있는 것은 아니라 하더라도, 내가 너보다 더 큰 네 언니와 너보다 작은 네 아우를 모두 네 딸로 삼아 주면, 너는 네가 저지른 악한 행실을 기억하고, 부끄러워할 것이다.
  5. 이렇게 내가 직접 너와 언약을 세우면, 그 때에야 비로소 너는, 내가 주인 줄 알 것이다.
  1. Thou hast borne thy lewdness and thine abominations, saith the LORD.
  2. For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even deal with thee as thou hast done, which hast despised the oath in breaking the covenant.
  3. Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.
  4. Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.
  5. And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD:
  1. 내가 이렇게 하는 까닭은, 네가 저지른 모든 악한 일을 용서받은 다음에, 네가 지난 일들을 기억하고, 놀라고, 그리고 부끄러워서 다시는 입도 열지 못하게 하려는 데 있는 것이다. 나 주 하나님의 말이다."
  1. That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.
 
  독수리와 포도나무 비유(17:1-17:24)    
 
  1. 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다.
  2. "사람아, 너는 이스라엘 족속에게 수수께끼를 내고, 비유를 들어 말하여라.
  3. 너는 그들에게 말하여라. '나 주 하나님이 말한다. 큰 독수리 한 마리가 레바논으로 갔다. 큰 날개, 긴 깃, 알록달록한 깃털을 가진 그 독수리는 백향목 끝에 돋은 순을 땄다.
  4. 독수리는 그 연한 햇순을 잘라서, 상인들의 땅으로 물고 가서, 상인들의 성읍에 놓아 두었다.
  5. 그리고 그 땅에서 난 씨앗을 가져다가 옥토에 심었다. 시냇가에다가 버드나무를 심듯, 물이 많은 시냇가에 그 씨앗을 심었다.
  1. And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
  2. Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;
  3. And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:
  4. He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.
  5. He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.
  1. 그 씨앗은 싹이 나고, 낮게 퍼지며 자라서, 무성한 포도나무가 되었다. 그 가지들은 독수리에게로 뻗어 올라갔고, 그 뿌리는 땅에 박고 있었다. 그 씨가 포도나무가 되어, 가지를 내뻗고, 덩굴손을 뻗쳤다.
  2. 다른 큰 독수리 한 마리가 나타났다. 날개가 크고 깃이 많은 독수리다. 그런데 보아라, 이 포도나무가 뿌리를 그 독수리에게로 뻗고, 가지도 그 독수리에게로 뻗는 것이 아닌가! 이 포도나무는 새로 나타난 그 독수리를 보고 옥토에서 멀리 떨어진 곳에 물을 대달라고 하였다.
  3. 그 포도나무를 옥토 곧 물이 많은 곳에 심은 것은, 가지를 뻗고 열매를 맺어서 아름다운 포도나무가 되도록 한 것인데, 이 모양이 되고 말았다.'
  4. 그러므로 너는 그들에게 전하여라. '나 주 하나님이 말한다. 그 포도나무가 무성해질 수 있겠느냐? 그 뿌리가 뽑히지 않겠느냐? 그 열매가 떨어지거나, 그 새싹이 말라 죽지 않겠느냐? 그 뿌리를 뽑아 버리는 데는, 큰 힘이나 많은 군대를 동원하지 않아도 될 것이다.
  5. 그러므로 그것을 심어 놓았지만 무성해질 수가 있겠느냐? 동쪽 열풍이 불어 오면 곧 마르지 않겠느냐? 자라던 그 밭에서 말라 버리지 않겠느냐?'"
  1. And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
  2. There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.
  3. It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.
  4. Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.
  5. Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.
  1. 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다.
  2. "너는 저 반역하는 족속에게, 이 비유가 무엇을 뜻하는지 알지 못하겠느냐고 물어 보고, 그들에게 일러주어라. 바빌로니아 왕이 예루살렘으로 와서, 왕과 지도자들을 붙잡아 바빌로니아로 끌어 갔고,
  3. 이 나라의 왕족 가운데서 한 사람을 선택하여, 그와 언약을 맺고, 그에게 맹세를 시킨 다음에, 이 나라의 유능한 사람들을 붙잡아 갔다.
  4. 이것은 바빌로니아가 이 나라를 굴복시켜 독립하지 못하게 하고, 그 언약을 지켜야만 명맥을 유지해 나가도록 하려 한 것이다.
  5. 그런데도 그는 바빌로니아 왕에게 반역하여, 이집트로 사람을 보내서, 자기에게 많은 군마와 군인을 파견해 달라고 요청하였다. 그가 성공할 수 있겠느냐? 그런 일을 한 사람이 죽음을 피할 수 있겠느냐? 언약을 어긴 사람이 죽음을 피할 수 있겠느냐?
  1. Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
  2. Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;
  3. And hath taken of the king's seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:
  4. That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.
  5. But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?
  1. 나 주 하나님의 말이다. 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세한다. 그는 분명히 죽을 것이다. 바빌로니아 왕이 그를 왕으로 세워 주었는데, 그 왕에게 한 맹세를 무시하고, 그와 맺은 언약을 깨뜨렸으니, 왕의 땅인 바빌로니아에서 그와 함께 있다가 죽을 것이다.
  2. 바빌로니아 군대가 많은 사람을 죽이려고, 그의 성읍 옆에 흙 언덕을 쌓고 높은 사다리를 세울 때에는, 이집트의 바로가 강력한 군사력과 많은 군사로도 전쟁에서 그를 도울 수가 없을 것이다.
  3. 그가 맹세를 무시하고 언약을 깨뜨렸다. 그가 언약을 어기고 이런 모든 일을 하였기 때문에, 죽음을 피할 수 없을 것이다.
  4. 그러므로 나 주 하나님이 말한다. 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세한다. 그는 나의 이름을 두고 한 맹세를 업신여겼으며, 나의 이름을 걸고 맺은 언약을 깨뜨렸으므로, 내가 벌을 주어서, 그 죄를 그의 머리로 돌리겠다.
  5. 내가 그물을 쳐서 그를 망으로 옭아 바빌로니아로 끌고 가서, 거기에서 내가 나를 반역한 그의 반역을 심판하겠다.
  1. As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
  2. Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:
  3. Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.
  4. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.
  5. And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.
  1. 그의 모든 군대 가운데서 도망한 사람들은 모두 칼에 쓰러질 것이며, 살아 남은 사람들은 모두 사방으로 흩어질 것이다. 그 때에야 비로소 너희는, 이렇게 말한 것이 나 주인 줄 알게 될 것이다."
  2. "주 하나님이 말한다. 내가 백향목 끝에 돋은 가지를 꺾어다가 심겠다. 내가 그 나무의 맨 꼭대기에 돋은 어린 가지들 가운데서 연한 가지를 하나 꺾어다가, 내가 직접 높이 우뚝 솟은 산 위에 심겠다.
  3. 이스라엘의 높은 산 위에 내가 그 가지를 심어 놓으면, 거기에서 가지가 뻗어 나오고, 열매를 맺으며, 아름다운 백향목이 될 것이다. 그 때에는 온갖 새들이 그 나무에 깃들이고, 온갖 날짐승들이 그 가지 끝에서 보금자리를 만들 것이다.
  4. 그 때에야 들의 모든 나무가, 나 주가, 높은 나무는 낮추고 낮은 나무는 높이고 푸른 나무는 시들게 하고 마른 나무는 무성하게 하는 줄을, 알게 될 것이다. 나 주가 말하였으니, 내가 그대로 이루겠다."
  1. And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.
  2. Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:
  3. In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
  4. And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.
