	예레미야 39:1-41:18 예루살렘이 함락되고 시드기야 왕과 백성들은 바벨론으로 잡혀 갔다. 그러나 예레미야를 구해 주었던 아벳멜렉은 이 와중에 하나님의 구원을 약속받았다. 포로에서 풀려 난 예레미야와 유다 땅에 남아 있던 빈민들은 바벨론 왕이 세운 총독 그다랴와 함께 거했다. 왕족인 이스마엘이 그다랴와 백성 칠십 인을 죽이고 암몬 족속에게 가자, 요하난 일행은 바벨론의 보복을 두려워하여 애굽으로 가려고 했다.

	예루살렘 함락(39:1-39:18)

유다 왕 시드기야 제 구년 열째 달에 바빌로니아 왕 느부갓네살이 그의 모든 군대를 거느리고 예루살렘을 치러 올라와서, 도성을 포위하였는데,

시드기야 제 십일년 넷째 달 구일에 마침내 성벽이 뚫렸다.

（바빌로니아 왕의 고관들이 모두 성 안으로 들어와서 '중앙 대문'에 앉았다. 네르갈사레셀과 삼갈르보와 살스김 곧 랍사리스와 다른 네르갈사레셀 곧 랍막과 바빌로니아 왕이 보낸 다른 고관들이, 모두 앉아 있었다.）

유다 왕 시드기야와 그의 모든 군인들은 쳐들어오는 적군을 보고서, 모두 도망하였다. 그들은 밤에 왕의 동산 길을 통과하여, 두 성벽을 잇는 통로를 지나, 아라바 쪽으로 도망하였다.

그러나 바빌로니아 군대가 그들을 추격하여, 여리고 평원에서 시드기야를 사로잡아, 하맛 땅의 리블라로 끌고 가서, 바빌로니아 왕 느부갓네살 앞에 세워 놓았다. 바빌로니아 왕이 시드기야를 신문하였다.

Now when Jerusalem was captured in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came to Jerusalem and laid siege to it;

in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the city wall was breached.

Then all the officials of the king of Babylon came in and sat down at the Middle Gate: Nergal-sar-ezer, Samgar-nebu, Sar-sekim the Rab-saris, Nergal-sar-ezer the Rab-mag, and all the rest of the officials of the king of Babylon.

When Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, they fled and went out of the city at night by way of the king's garden through the gate between the two walls; and he went out toward the Arabah.

But the army of the Chaldeans pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and they seized him and brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, and he passed sentence on him.

바빌로니아 왕은 리블라에서 시드기야의 아들들을 시드기야가 보는 앞에서 처형하였다. 바빌로니아 왕은 유다의 귀족들도 모두 처형하였다.

그리고 왕은 시드기야의 두 눈을 뺀 다음에, 바빌론으로 끌고 가려고, 그를 쇠사슬로 묶었다.

바빌로니아 군인들은 왕궁과 민가에 불을 지르고, 예루살렘의 성벽들도 허물어 버렸다.

그런 다음에, 근위대장 느부사라단은 아직도 성 안에 남아 있는 백성과 자기에게 투항한 사람과 그 밖에 남은 백성을 바빌로니아로 잡아갔다.

그리고 근위대장 느부사라단은 가진 것이라고는 아무것도 없는 일부 빈민을 유다 땅에 남겨 두고, 그들에게 포도원과 농토를 나누어 주었다.

Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes at Riblah; the king of Babylon also slew all the nobles of Judah.

He then blinded Zedekiah's eyes and bound him in fetters of bronze to bring him to Babylon.

The Chaldeans also burned with fire the king's palace and the houses of the people, and they broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

As for the rest of the people who were left in the city, the deserters who had gone over to him and the rest of the people who remained, Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard carried them into exile in Babylon.

But some of the poorest people who had nothing, Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard left behind in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at that time.

바빌로니아 왕 느부갓네살은 근위대장 느부사라단에게 예레미야의 처우를 두고, 이렇게 명령하였다.

"너는 그를 데려다가 잘 보살펴 주어라. 너는 그를 조금도 해치지 말고, 오직 그가 너에게 요구하는 대로 그에게 해주어라."

근위대장 느부사라단과, 느부사스반 곧 랍사리스와, 네르갈사레셀 곧 랍막과, 바빌로니아 왕이 보낸 다른 고관들 모두가 사람을 보내어,

근위대 뜰에서 예레미야를 데려다가, 사반의 손자요 아히감의 아들인 그달리야에게 맡겨서, 그를 집으로 돌아가게 하였다. 그래서 예레미야는 백성과 함께 살 수가 있었다.

예레미야가 여전히 근위대 뜰 안에 갇혀 있을 때에, 주님께서 그에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다.

Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave orders about Jeremiah through Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard, saying,

"Take him and look after him, and do nothing harmful to him, but rather deal with him just as he tells you."

So Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard sent word, along with Nebushazban the Rab-saris, and Nergal-sar-ezer the Rab-mag, and all the leading officers of the king of Babylon;

they even sent and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guardhouse and entrusted him to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So he stayed among the people.

Now the word of the LORD had come to Jeremiah while he was confined in the court of the guardhouse, saying,

"너는 저 에티오피아 사람 에벳멜렉에게 가서, 이와 같이 전하여라. '나 만군의 주, 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다. 보아라, 내가 이 도성에 복이 아니라 재앙을 내리겠다고 선포하였는데, 이제 내가 한 그 말을 이루겠다. 이 일이 바로 그 날에, 네가 보는 앞에서 일어날 것이지만,

바로 그 날에 내가 너를 건져내어, 네가 두려워하는 사람들의 손아귀에 들어가지 않도록 하겠다. 나 주의 말이다.

오히려 내가 너를 반드시 구해서, 네가 칼에 죽지 않게 하겠다. 네가 나를 의지하였기 때문에, 내가 너의 생명을 너에게 상으로 준다. 나 주의 말이다.'"

"Go and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Behold, I am about to bring My words on this city for disaster and not for prosperity; and they will take place before you on that day.

"But I will deliver you on that day," declares the LORD, "and you will not be given into the hand of the men whom you dread.

"For I will certainly rescue you, and you will not fall by the sword; but you will have your own life as booty, because you have trusted in Me," declares the LORD.'"

	자유의 몸이 된 예레미야(40:1-40:6)

근위대장 느부사라단이 라마에서 예레미야를 석방한 뒤에, 주님께서 예레미야에게 말씀하셨다. 그 때에 예레미야는 바빌로니아로 포로로 끌려가는 예루살렘과 유다의 모든 포로와 함께 수갑을 차고 끌려가고 있었다.

근위대장은 예레미야를 데려다 놓고 이렇게 말하였다. "그대의 하나님이신 주님께서 이 곳에 이런 재앙을 내리시겠다고 말씀하셨는데,

이제 그대로 하셨소. 주님께서 말씀하신 그대로 하신 것이오. 그대들이 주님께 죄를 짓고 그분의 말씀에 순종하지 않았기 때문에, 그대들이 이런 재앙을 당한 것이오.

그러나 이제 보시오. 내가 지금 그대의 두 팔에 채워진 수갑을 풀어 주겠소. 그대가 만일 나와 함께 바빌로니아로 가는 것을 좋게 여기면, 함께 가십시다. 내가 그대를 보살펴 주겠소. 그러나 나와 함께 바빌로니아로 가는 것을 좋게 여기지 않으면, 가지 않아도 괜찮소. 이 땅 어디든지, 그대가 보기에 적당하고 마음에 드는 곳이 있으면, 그 곳으로 가시오."

예레미야가 아직 돌아가려고 하지 않으니까, 그는 말을 계속하였다. "그대가 이 곳에 머물기를 원하면, 사반의 손자요 아히감의 아들인 그달리야에게로 돌아가서, 그와 함께 동족과 더불어 사시오. 그는 바빌로니아 왕께서 유다 땅의 총독으로 세우신 사람이오. 그것도 싫으면, 어디든지, 그대가 보기에 적당한 곳으로 찾아가시오." 이렇게 말하면서, 근위대장은 예레미야에게 길에서 먹을 양식과 선물을 주어서 보냈다.

The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD after Nebuzaradan captain of the bodyguard had released him from Ramah, when he had taken him bound in chains among all the exiles of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.

Now the captain of the bodyguard had taken Jeremiah and said to him, "The LORD your God promised this calamity against this place;

and the LORD has brought it on and done just as He promised. Because you people sinned against the LORD and did not listen to His voice, therefore this thing has happened to you.

"But now, behold, I am freeing you today from the chains which are on your hands If you would prefer to come with me to Babylon, come along, and I will look after you; but if you would prefer not to come with me to Babylon, never mind Look, the whole land is before you; go wherever it seems good and right for you to go."

As Jeremiah was still not going back, he said, "Go on back then to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people; or else go anywhere it seems right for you to go " So the captain of the bodyguard gave him a ration and a gift and let him go.

예레미야는 미스바로 가서, 아히감의 아들 그달리야를 찾아가, 그와 함께 그 땅에 남아 있는 동족과 더불어 살았다.

Then Jeremiah went to Mizpah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam and stayed with him among the people who were left in the land.

	살해당한 그다랴 총독(40:7-41:18)

들판에서 부하들과 함께 있는 군지휘관들은, 바빌로니아 왕이 아히감의 아들 그달리야를 이 땅의 총독으로 삼고, 남자와 여자와 어린 아이들뿐 아니라, 그 땅의 빈민 가운데서 바빌로니아로 끌려가지 않은 사람들을 그에게 맡겼다는 소식을 듣고,

미스바로 와서 그달리야를 만났다. 그들은 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘, 가레아의 두 아들 요하난과 요나단, 단후멧의 아들 스라야, 느도바 사람 에배의 아들들, 마아가 사람의 아들 여사냐와, 그들 각자가 거느린 부하들이다.

그 때에 사반의 손자요 아히감의 아들인 그달리야가, 지휘관들과 그들의 부하들에게 이렇게 맹세하였다. "여러분은 바빌로니아 사람 섬기는 것을 두려워하지 마시오. 여러분은 이 땅에 살면서 바빌로니아 왕을 섬기시오. 그러면 모든 일이 다 잘될 것이오.

나는 미스바에 머물면서 우리를 찾아오는 바빌로니아 사람 앞에서 여러분의 대표자로 나서겠소. 그러니 여러분은 어느 성읍이든지 차지하고 거기에서 포도주와 여름 과일과 기름을 모아, 여러분의 그릇에 저장하면서 살도록 하시오."

모압과 암몬의 자손과 에돔과 그 밖에 여러 나라에 흩어져 있는 모든 유다 사람도 바빌로니아 왕이 유다 땅에 사람들을 남겨 두었으며, 사반의 손자요 아히감의 아들인 그달리야를 그들의 대표자로 세워 놓았다는 소문을 들었다.

Now all the commanders of the forces that were in the field, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam over the land and that he had put him in charge of the men, women and children, those of the poorest of the land who had not been exiled to Babylon.

So they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, along with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, both they and their men.

Then Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore to them and to their men, saying, "Do not be afraid of serving the Chaldeans; stay in the land and serve the king of Babylon, that it may go well with you.

"Now as for me, behold, I am going to stay at Mizpah to stand for you before the Chaldeans who come to us; but as for you, gather in wine and summer fruit and oil and put them in your storage vessels, and live in your cities that you have taken over."

Likewise, also all the Jews who were in Moab and among the sons of Ammon and in Edom and who were in all the other countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant for Judah, and that he had appointed over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan.

그래서 흩어져 있는 유다 사람들도, 모두 자기들이 살던 곳에서 돌아와서, 유다 땅 미스바의 그달리야에게로 갔다. 그리고 그들은 포도주와 여름 과일을 아주 많이 모았다.

그런데 가레아의 아들 요하난을 비롯하여 들판에 있는 군지휘관들이, 모두 미스바의 그달리야에게 와서,

그에게 이렇게 말하였다. "암몬 사람의 왕 바알리스가 총독님의 목숨을 빼앗으려고 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘을 보냈다는 것을, 전혀 모르고 계십니까?" 그러나 아히감의 아들 그달리야는 그들의 말을 믿지 않았다.

그 뒤에 가레아의 아들 요하난은 미스바의 그달리야에게 은밀히 이렇게까지 말하였다. "제가 아무도 모르게 가서, 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘을 죽이겠습니다. 허락해 주십시오. 그가 총독님을 살해하면, 지금 총독님께 모여 있는 모든 유다 사람이 다시 흩어지고, 이렇게 살아 남은 유다 사람들마저 멸망하고 말 것입니다."

그러나 아히감의 아들 그달리야는 가레아의 아들 요하난에게 이렇게 대답하였다. "그대는 그런 일을 해서는 안 되오. 그대가 이스마엘에 대하여 한 말은 사실일 리가 없소."

Then all the Jews returned from all the places to which they had been driven away and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and gathered in wine and summer fruit in great abundance.

Now Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were in the field came to Gedaliah at Mizpah

and said to him, "Are you well aware that Baalis the king of the sons of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?" But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah, saying, "Let me go and kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and not a man will know! Why should he take your life, so that all the Jews who are gathered to you would be scattered and the remnant of Judah would perish?"

But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, "Do not do this thing, for you are telling a lie about Ishmael."

그 해 일곱째 달이 되었을 때에, 엘리사마의 손자이며 느다니야의 아들로서, 왕족이며 왕의 대신이기도 한 이스마엘이, 부하 열 사람과 함께 아히감의 아들 그달리야를 만나러 미스바로 왔다. 그리하여 그들은 미스바에서 그달리야와 함께 식사를 하였는데,

느다니야의 아들 이스마엘이 자기가 데리고 온 부하 열 명과 함께 일어나서, 사반의 손자이며 아히감의 아들인 그달리야를 칼로 쳐죽였다. 이스마엘은, 바빌로니아 왕이 그 땅의 총독으로 세운 그를 이렇게 죽였다.

이스마엘은 또, 그달리야와 함께 식탁에 있는 모든 유다 사람들과, 그 곳에 와 있는 바빌로니아 군인들도 죽였다.

그달리야가 살해된 다음날, 아직 아무도 그것을 알지 못할 때에,

수염을 깎고 옷을 찢고 몸에 상처를 낸 사람들 여든 명이, 세겜과 실로와 사마리아로부터 곡식제물과 향료를 들고 와서, 주님의 성전에 바치려고 하였다.

In the seventh month Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal family and one of the chief officers of the king, along with ten men, came to Mizpah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam While they were eating bread together there in Mizpah,

Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him arose and struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword and put to death the one whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

Ishmael also struck down all the Jews who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.

Now it happened on the next day after the killing of Gedaliah, when no one knew about it,

that eighty men came from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria with their beards shaved off and their clothes torn and their bodies gashed, having grain offerings and incense in their hands to bring to the house of the LORD.

그런데 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘이 그들을 맞으려고 미스바에서 나와서, 계속 울면서 걸어가다가, 마침내 그들을 만나자 이렇게 말하였다. "아히감의 아들 그달리야에게로 갑시다."

그리하여 그들이 미스바 성 안으로 들어오니, 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘이 자기와 같이 있는 부하들과 함께 그들을 살해하여, 물웅덩이 속에 던져 넣었다.

그런데 그들 가운데 열 사람이 이스마엘에게 애걸하였다. "우리가 밀과 보리와 기름과 꿀을 밭에 숨겨 두었으니, 제발 살려 주십시오." 그래서 이스마엘이 그들을 일행과 함께 죽이지 않고 살려 주었다.

이스마엘이 사람들을 쳐죽이고서 그 시체를 모두 던져 넣은 물웅덩이는, 아사 왕이 이스라엘 왕 바아사를 저지하려고 파 놓은 물웅덩이인데, 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘이 그 곳을 송장으로 가득 채웠다.

그런 뒤에 이스마엘은 미스바에 남아 있는 모든 백성과 공주들을 포로로 사로잡았다. 그들은 모두, 근위대장 느부사라단이 아히감의 아들 그달리야에게 맡겨 놓은, 미스바에 남아 있는 백성이다. 그런데 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘은 그들을 포로로 사로잡아서, 암몬 사람에게로 넘어가려고 하였다.

Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went; and as he met them, he said to them, "Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam!"

Yet it turned out that as soon as they came inside the city, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the men that were with him slaughtered them and cast them into the cistern.

But ten men who were found among them said to Ishmael, "Do not put us to death; for we have stores of wheat, barley, oil and honey hidden in the field." So he refrained and did not put them to death along with their companions.

Now as for the cistern where Ishmael had cast all the corpses of the men whom he had struck down because of Gedaliah, it was the one that King Asa had made on account of Baasha, king of Israel; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain.

Then Ishmael took captive all the remnant of the people who were in Mizpah, the king's daughters and all the people who were left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard had put under the charge of Gedaliah the son of Ahikam; thus Ishmael the son of Nethaniah took them captive and proceeded to cross over to the sons of Ammon.

가레아의 아들 요하난과 그와 함께 있는 모든 군대장관은, 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘이 저지른 범죄 소식을 모두 전하여 듣고,

부하를 다 거느리고 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘을 치러 뒤쫓아갔다. 그들은 기브온에 있는 큰 못 근처에서 그를 만났다.

이스마엘에게 끌려가던 사람들이 모두 가레아의 아들 요하난과 그와 함께 온 모든 군지휘관들을 보고서 기뻐하였다.

그리고 미스바에서부터 이스마엘에게 포로로 끌려가던 사람들이 모두 뒤돌아서, 가레아의 아들 요하난에게로 넘어갔다.

그러나 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘은 부하 여덟 명과 함께 요하난 앞에서 도주하여, 암몬 사람에게로 넘어갔다.

But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were with him heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done.

So they took all the men and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and they found him by the great pool that is in Gibeon.

Now as soon as all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah and the commanders of the forces that were with him, they were glad.

So all the people whom Ishmael had taken captive from Mizpah turned around and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men and went to the sons of Ammon.

아히감의 아들 그달리야를 살해한 뒤에, 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘이 남아 있는 모든 백성을 사로잡아 미스바에서 포로로 끌고 가려고 하였으나, 가레아의 아들 요하난은 자기가 데리고 있는 모든 군지휘관을 거느리고 가서, 포로로 끌려가는 군인들과 남자와 여자와 어린 아이들과 내시들을 기브온에서 데리고 왔다.

그들은 다 같이 이집트로 들어갈 작정으로 도망치다가, 베들레헴 근처에 있는 게롯김함에서 쉬었다.

바빌로니아 왕이 아히감의 아들 그달리야를 그 땅의 총독으로 세워 놓았는데, 느다니야의 아들 이스마엘이 그를 죽였기 때문에, 그들은 바빌로니아 사람들이 두려웠던 것이다.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces that were with him took from Mizpah all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, after he had struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, that is, the men who were soldiers, the women, the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon.

And they went and stayed in Geruth Chimham, which is beside Bethlehem, in order to proceed into Egypt

because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, since Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.
