- 내 아이들아, 너는 잘 듣고 지혜를 얻어서, 너의 마음을 바르게 이끌어라.
- 너는 술을 많이 마시는 사람이나 고기를 탐하는 사람과는 어울리지 말아라.
- 늘 술에 취해 있으면서 먹기만을 탐하는 사람은 재산을 탕진하게 되고, 늘 잠에 빠져 있는 사람은 누더기를 걸치게 된다.
- 너를 낳아 준 아버지에게 순종하고 늙은 어머니를 업신여기지 말아라.
- 진리를 사들이되 팔지는 말아라. 지혜와 훈계와 명철도 그렇게 하여라.

- Listen, my son, and be wise, And direct your heart in the way.
- Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat;
- For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe one with rags.
- Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old.
- Buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction and understanding.

- 의인의 아버지는 크게 기뻐할 것이며, 지혜로운 자식을 둔 아버지는 크게 즐거워할 것이다.
- 너의 어버이를 즐겁게 하여라. 특히 너를 낳은 어머니를 기쁘게 하여라.
- 내 아이들아! 나를 눈여겨 보고, 내가 걸어온 길을 기꺼이 따라라.

- The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who sires a wise son will be glad in him.
- Let your father and your mother be glad, And let her rejoice who gave birth to you.
- Give me your heart, my son, And let your eyes delight in my ways.
