- 그러면 육신상으로 우리의 조상인 아브라함이 무엇을 얻었다고 우리가 말할 수 있겠습니까?
- 아브라함이 행위로 의롭게 되었더라면, 그에게는 자랑할 것이 있었을 것입니다. 그러나 하나님 앞에서는 자랑할 것이 없습니다.
- 성경이 무엇이라고 말합니까? "아브라함이 하나님을 믿으니, 하나님께서 그를 의롭다고 여기셨다" 하였습니다.
- 일을 하는 사람에게는 품삯을 은혜로 주는 것으로 치지 않고 당연한 보수로 주는 것으로 생각합니다.
- 그러나 경건하지 못한 사람을 의롭다고 하시는 분을 믿는 사람은, 비록 아무 공로가 없어도, 그의 믿음이 의롭다고 인정을 받습니다.

- What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?
- For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
- For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."
- Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.
- But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,

- 그래서 행한 것이 없어도, 하나님께서 의롭다고 여겨 주시는 사람이 받을 복을 다윗도 다음과 같이 말하였습니다.
- "하나님께서 잘못을 용서해 주시고 죄를 덮어 주신 사람은 복이 있다.
- 주님께서 죄 없다고 인정해 주실 사람은 복이 있다."
- 그러면 이러한 복은 할례를 받은 사람에게만 내리는 것입니까? 그렇지 않으면 할례를 받지 않은 사람에게도 내리는 것입니까? 우리는 앞에서 말하기를 "하나님께서 아브라함의 믿음을 의로 여기셨다" 하였습니다.
- 그러면 어떻게 아브라함이 그러한 인정을 받았습니까? 그가 할례를 받은 후에 그렇게 되었습니까? 그렇지 않으면 할례를 받기 전에 그렇게 되었습니까? 그것은 할례를 받은 후에 된 일이 아니라, 할례를 받기 전에 된 일입니다.

- just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
- "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED.
- "BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT."
- Is this blessing then on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say, "FAITH WAS CREDITED TO ABRAHAM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."
- How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;

- 아브라함이 할례라는 표를 받았는데, 그것은 그가 할례를 받지 않은 상태에서 이미 얻은 믿음의 의를 확증하는 것이었습니다. 그래서 그는 할례를 받지 않고도 믿는 모든 사람의 조상이 되었으니, 이것은 할례를 받지 않은 사람들도 의롭다는 인정을 받게 하려는 것이었습니다.

- and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be credited to them,
- and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham which he had while uncircumcised.
